The concept of Integrated Marketing has changed. As we head towards the third decade of the digital century, the lines between “traditional” and “digital” have blurred, making our current communications landscape more integrated than ever before.

Gone are the days of broadcast communications to nameless, faceless masses. Today, the individual is king, and we need to invest time in research and understanding who we are speaking to lest we offend or mislead.

And we’re not speaking to an audience, but rather a user. The ease with which anyone with a digital device and an internet connection can become a platform in and of themselves means we, as marketers, are competing with more voices than ever before – authentic, real and relevant voices that are relatable to users.

If we do manage to get through to our target, conversation and interaction are our proof that the people we are speaking to are hearing us and that they are interested in what we have to say. Then, once we get the interaction, we need to be swift in our response or risk being seen as impersonal, disinterested or uncaring.

The highly anticipated 2018 Assegai Awards Gala Evening took place at the sophisticated Polo Room of the Inanda Club, Sandton. In a glittering celebration of the industry’s finest, 51 gold, 30 silver, 30 bronze and 44 leaders awards were presented.

Ogilvy Cape Town and Johannesburg walked away with 19 gold awards, Joe Public Connect took home eight golds and the title of Agency of the Year - and Clarissa Fleischer of Rogerwilco was named Young Direct Marketer of the Year.
