    S a n J o s e d e Ya l N i m J a y C e n t e r Following a year of planning with Mano con Mano Health Reach, AMG has officially begun work in San Jose de Yal at the Nim Jay Center.

Who is AMG? Founded in 1942, AMG has been sharing the good news of Christ and meeting physical needs across the globe in 34 countries.

AMG first arrived in Guatemala nearly 40 years ago, following the great earthquake here of 1976. After working to meet the many needs of those affected by the earthquake, AMG slowly grew to be a ministry leader in Guatemala that now serves thousands of young people in 30 communities across the population belt of the country. AMG operates 30 Christian school centers, nutrition programs, medical/dental clinics, protection/restoration programs, a rural hospital, farm projects, a year-round Christian camp and vocational/employment programs. Mobilizing the Church At the heart of all we do, is the Church, Christs bride. STRENGTHENING THE WORK IN YAL Nim Jay has invested in the lives of thousands, but the need to reach Yal is greater than ever!

Some mothers and their children walk more than 30 minutes, often with no shoes on their feet, to visit our center and participate in our feeding, education and health programs. The Lord is allowing us to do great things through these programs, however with the extreme context of life in San Jose Yal much more needs to be done. Weve worked hard to protect the existing programs of the center and are excited to begin investing more in education and economic development. Today, approximately 300 children are fed by our kitchen team, with 50 remaining for after school tutoring, mentoring and spiritual enrichment. We praise God for this, but realize that we need to reach more children, more frequently! We presently serve less than one-third of the youth here, and hundreds are not even enrolled in the public school.

Our desire is to include more and more youth in our after school programs, encouraging them to continue studying and pursuing their dreams and goals for the future. In light of this we believe the greatest hope for the families of Yal extends well beyond nutrition, education and health. Jesus Christ offers the only true and lasting hope that transforms life now and for eternity. We will soon be offering child sponsorship opportunities in order to add more children to the program, reaching more and more with this blessed hope. We plan to begin working with mothers soon, sharing the Gospel and investing in their livelihoods.

Introducing Mr. and Mrs. Jacob and Abigai l Paul l Our daughter Abigail is now a married woman and we couldn't ask for a better son-in-law! Jacob and Abbie were married on a beautiful afternoon here in Antigua, Guatemala on January 15th. They are living in Alexandria, Virginia, where Jacob works for ONI, the Office of Navy Intelligence. Abbie will be continuing her studies this fall at Liberty and they are both enjoying making music together at their Church, First Baptist of Alexandria. Were excited to see them later in June when we visit Virginia.

  • The current leadership team of AMG Guatemala sees one of our greatest assets the presence that we have inherited in 30 communities across this fascinating and challenging nation. That presence gives us a responsibility and a significant opportunity to work in the lives of young people, their families and their communities, and to facilitate many efforts alongside others that we could never accomplish alone. We have an amazing opportunity before us to impact this country.

AMG Guatemalas five year plan revolves around its Bridge to Life model. The BTL is a metaphor for the sustainable transformation we seek to bring about in the lives of young people in Guatemala. The model depicts AMG and its partners walking hand-in-hand alongside young people, crossing a bridge over the many obstacles that exist in the challenging places we work in, resulting in healthy and resilient young adults, walking with the Lord with purpose and vocation, seeing the needs around them and responsibly giving back.

The model serves as a guide to find the gaps in our work and an important tool in reaching out to others to work with us in crossing the bridge.

In many cases, the most important inhibitor in the lives of young people is the lack of a clear vision of their future and people to equip, inspire and love them along the way. AMG accepts the challenge of fulfilling and facilitating an answer for them. The power of the Bridge to Life is its focus on the most basic needs of all humans in life, identifying the gaps within individual children and their families and then coming together as Christians, joining hands as local churches, organizations, companies and public institutions to work together in seeing to it that those basic needs are provided for.

The base of our bridge is Evangelism and Discipleship and reflects AMGs mission/ vision of sharing the Gospel and making disciples through all that we do. The pillars of the bridge are our programs within Family Care, Healthcare, Education, Protection/Restoration and Employment.

Striving for Quality and Better Outcomes Our focus in the coming 5 years will be to further work out our Bridge to Life model, strengthening partnerships and doing a more complete work.

  • Efforts are under way to renovate our hospital in Cubulco, Baja Vera Paz, in order to be sure that we are there for years to come, serving this needy population of more than 50,000. The Seorita Elena Hospital is the only hospital in the area and is a lifeline for many of those who live in numerous surrounding mountainous villages.

The renovation will include the complete remodel of our existing main hospital building, converting it to only emergency services and surgery. A new building will be constructed, replacing two older adobe structures, that will house a new laboratory, examination rooms, maternity, optometry, dental and a large retail pharmacy with street access. We are excited about these improvements, especially the addition of new services like optometry. Operating a retail pharmacy will help our profits and continued selfsufficiency. If you are interested in donating to this project contact AMG.
