Our department also has to address the challenges posed by temporary population and its effects on different parts of the country. Thatis, over – population caused by tourist arrivals, the effects of agricultural activities or the existence of second homes.

What the National Strategy to tackle the Demographic Challenge
wants to achieve:
Lay down the foundations of a national plan that guarantees equal opportunities and citizen’s
rights no matter their home region throughout:
- The cooperation of all public administrations involved.
- Sustainable exploitation of endogenous resources
- Close collaboration between the public and private sector

Some measures that are being implemented:
Business ventures and young employment grants in municipalities at risk of demographic decline.
Initiatives to favour equal oportunities for women when implementing projects in rural areas: such as givingsupport to organisations, providing training…
Improve territorial connectivity and broadband connection through Plan 800 and PEBA-NGA.
Digitalisation of the agri-food and forestry sector and rural environment Strategy.
Stimulation of industrial areas in order to foster industrialisation and the expansion of Economy 4.0.
Promote Rural and Inland tourism through public and private hubs.
Launching the first Digital Innovation Hub linked to Demographic decline in the European Union
Support defense infrastructures (such as military bases and barracks) according to their needs in rural areas.
Provide education, leisure and cultural activities in the islands and rural areas with a diverse offer, in order tofight inequality and child poverty.
