JERUSALEM SURROUNDED BY ARMIES• Its desolation is near – Luke 21:20• Followers of Jesus would get out of Jerusalem in time if they listen to

Jesus –v.21• THESE are “the days of vengeance” – v.22• All things written would be fulfilled – cf. Dan.9:26-27• Thus, the destruction of Jerusalem would end the old system of

Judaism and their center for persecution AND…• It would avenge the righteous dead AND….• Exalt, vilify, and glorify the Bride of Christ, the NEW Jerusalem

THE REVELATION OF JESUS CHRIST• The fall of Jerusalem in a display of divine wrath:• “The day when the Son of Man is REVEALED” –Luke

17:30• How is Jesus revealed?• That day reveals that His prophesied judgment is true• That day shows that God and Jesus are not with

Judaism• That day further reveals that Jesus is with His church• That day reveals Jesus on the clouds of judgment

• Each write their final letters in about 67AD• Each write to brethren in “Asia”• Each write about something “shortly” to take place• Each write concerning persecution• Peter and Paul are executed under Nero who also killed

himself in 68AD• All wrote before the destruction of Jerusalem in AD 70

• 28 But Jesus, turning to them, said, "Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for Me, but weep for yourselves and for your children. 29 For indeed the days are coming in which they will say, 'Blessed are the barren, wombs that never bore, and breasts which never nursed!' 30 Then they will begin 'to say to the mountains, "Fall on us!" and to the hills, "Cover us!"' 31 For if they do these things in the green wood, what will be done in the dry?"

• some of them you will kill and crucify, and some of them you will scourge in your synagogues and persecute from city to city, 35 that on you may come all the righteous blood shed on the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah, son of Berechiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar. 36 Assuredly, I say to you, all these things will come upon this generation.

JERUSALEM IS THE HARLOT• Ezek 16:15

• "But you trusted in your own beauty, played the harlot because of your fame, and poured out your harlotry on everyone passing by who would have it. NKJV

• Ezek 16:26

• 26 You also committed harlotry with the Egyptians NKJV

• Ezek 16:28

• 28 You also played the harlot with the Assyrians, NKJV

• Ezek 16:29

• you multiplied your acts of harlotry as far as the land of the trader, Chaldea; and even then you were not satisfied. NKJV

• Ezek 16:30

• 30 "How degenerate is your heart!" says the Lord GOD, "seeing you do all these things, the deeds of a brazen harlot .NKJV

JERUSALEM IS THE HARLOT• The great city :• Rev 11:8

• 8 And their dead bodies will lie in the street of the great city which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified. NKJV

• Rev 14:8

• 8 And another angel followed, saying,"Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she has made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication." NKJV

• Rev 17:17-18

• 18 And the woman whom you saw is that great city which reigns over the kings of the earth." NKJV

THE TWO JERUSALEMS• The Jerusalem below and the Jerusalem above

• Same theme in Galatians 4:21-31• Fleshly Jerusalem = National, Earthly Judaism• Her children “persecute” the children of “Jerusalem above” –

v.29• Jerusalem above is spiritual Israel, the church• Revelation is also about the Harlot Jerusalem and the

Glorified “New Jerusalem” from above• The Harlot experiences “the days of vengeance”• The Bride of Christ is glorified

THE TWO JERUSALEMS

• There is no further program for earthly Jerusalem• They are finished as a center of power and prestige among

Jews• The heavenly Jerusalem, the church of Christ, is the true

Israel of God• The days of vengeance ended all argument that God was in

fellowship with the nation of earthly Israel• The days of vengeance demonstrated for all time that God’s

blessings and favor is with the church of Christ
