Squillions and squillions of moons ago, there was a beautiful Forest. The Forest was

green and always in Spring. The animals that lived there were very kind and very

helpful.

There was magic in the air. And there was magic in the animals.

Which isnt surprising, really. For, when you are very kind and very helpful, there is

always magic in you.

There were four animals who were more magical than the others. Orange Giraffe.

Striped Zebra. Grey Elephant. And Brown Eagle. (Who was actually a bird)

Today is a very special day, said Giraffe in her gentle voice.

Striped Zebra was grazing on the grass, with her twin (who looked just like her, but

wasnt as magical) Oh yes, it is!, she raised her head to agree, Its the day wevebeen waiting for

Elephant trumpeted majestically and declared, Such a beautiful day. So full of

magic!

And Eagle flew overhead with his wide wings and crooned in his deep voice, Today

is the Day of Magic

And yes, that day was the Day of Magic. For all these wonderful Beasts had decided

to put together their wonderful magic and create a beautiful new Magical Being!

But something was missing. Or rather, Someone.

Where is Lion?, asked Giraffe, Nothing is possible without him.

And that was true. Nothing was possible without the Lion. For he was the most

magical of all the magic creatures.

Ill go and find him, said Elephant. And marched at once, to do so.

Where are you off to, in such a great hurry, dear Grey Elephant?, asked pretty

Pink Butterfly, in her sweet voice. (Her voice had sweetened by drinking all the

magic nectar from the flowers)

Im looking for the Golden Lion, Butterfly, said Elephant. Do you know where I

can find him?

Oh yes, I do, Grey Elephant!, Butterfly exclaimed. But why dont you go back? Ill

find him and send him to you.

Oh thank you, Butterfly dear, said Grey Elephant. Tell him we are waiting near

the Tree of Life. And tell him that today is the Day of Magic.

Golden Lion was resting in the Meadow of Flowers. He was surrounded by colourful

happy blooms, little twittering birds, tiny squeaking mice and crawling chubby

caterpillars.

He was the most golden of all the animals in the Forest. And he also the most

magical. He was sitting in an enchanting patch of grass and was gently blowing hismagical breath on the caterpillars.

Whoo-oo-oosh, blew the Lion. The caterpillars stopped crawling. Four transparent

wings blossomed from their sides. They become dainty and light and began to rise

in the air. They had become beautiful wee butterflies!

Oh thank you, thank you, thank you, they cried in joy, and flew away in a flutter to

celebrate their new life.

Pink Butterfly flew to Lion and sat on his golden tail. She herself had once, long ago,felt his magic breath.

Happy Morning to you, Golden Lion, she said sweetly. I have a message for you

from Grey Elephant. You are to, please, go to The Tree of Life, for today is the Day of

Magic.

So it is!, roared Lion. And what a roar it was! So deep. So gold. So magic. And yet,

it didnt scare any of the darling little creatures around him.

It is the Day of Magic! And I shall set off to The Tree at once, for much magic is to

be made today.

The Tree of Life was right at the centre of the Forest. It was very old. And very

magical. At its roots were two tiny seeds.

Oh, but there are two seeds here, not one!, said Grey Elephant.

Thats alright!, laughed Golden Lion. Well make two Magic Beings instead of just

one

So, the animals all stood before the two seeds of the Tree, ready to make the two

new Magical Beings.

You shall be full of Strength, declared Grey Elephant, blowing on the first seed.

And you shall use your strength to protect all those who are weaker than you.

And you shall be full of Patience and Compassion, said Striped Zebra, and kissed

the second seed.

Wisdom to be Truthful and Just shall be yours, said Orange Giraffe, and nuzzledthe two little seeds which were beginning to grow.

And Courage and Love, in your hearts, always, breathed the Golden Lion, to the

two seeds.

Eagle, who had been sitting on the highest branches of The Tree of Life, came

gliding down.

Dreams. You will always have dreams, to set you free and let you fly high. Higher

than even the blue heavens, he said and blew the wind of his wings on the seeds.

And the Magic began to work. The seeds blossomed and grew. And from them came

the first human Boy and the first human Girl. One with strength. And the other with

patience and compassion. And both wise and true and just and courageous. Full of

love and full of dreams.

And yes, full of Magic too. For they were very kind. And very helpful.

And, as you already know, when you are very kind and very helpful, there is always

magic in you.
