2019 GRADUATE EMPLOYABILITY RANKINGS

The 2019 edion of the QS World University Rankings: Graduate Employability will be published on Tuesday 11 September2018 on www.topuniversies.com.

The Graduate Employability Rankings seek to compare the employability outcomes of higher educaon instuons acrossthe world by considering:

· How well reputed are the instuons among employers?· Are the instuons nurturing high-achievers?· How connected are instuons to companies?· How aracve are an instuon’s recent graduates to employers?

This year we included 660 instuons in our evaluaon, comprising a 10% increase in the number of instuons on lastyear’s edion. In total, we are publishing the results for the top 500 universies.

As is the case with any university ranking, the methodology cannot capture all of the complexies involved in aempng tomeasure graduate employability at a global level. However we believe this ranking provides innovave insight and a richdataset of unprecedented nuance, to this crical conversaon. We considered responses from over 40,000 employers,39,000 mapped degrees and affiliaons of over 28,000 high-achievers, considered more than 140,000 employers'connecons with graduates, and evaluated nearly 200,000 work placement partnerships for this 2019 edion.

The following pages present the results for your university and the underlying data used for the calculaons. It also providesyou with comparisons against the averages in your home country or region.

We encourage you to look over this data which will help you to prepare for any acvies to celebrate your achievement. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you require any clarificaon, if you believe that there’s a need for amendments or ifyou have any more general feedback.

Kind Regards

Digging deeper into the QS Global Employer Survey dataset, QS has just released a brand-new Global Skills Gap Report, wherethe mismatch between graduate skills and employer expectaons is examined in the context of the fourth industrial revoluon.

The report was produced in partnership with the Instute of Student Recruiters in the UK. It reveals latest insight into the mostprominent skills gaps worldwide, as well as how different recruitment priories affect employer sasfacon, examining the roleuniversies play in preparing graduates for the labour market. Below is a snapshot of the current picture on the graduate skillsgap worldwide.

Employer Reputaon (30%)QS tradionally includes the Employer Reputaon as a key performance area in all its rankings exercises. As expected, this metric has a leading role in a methodology purely focused on employability. The Employer Reputaon is based on over 40,000 responses to the QS Employer Survey, and asksemployers to idenfy those instuons from which they source the most competent, innovave, effecve graduates. The QS Employer Survey is also the world’s largest of its kind.

Alumni Outcomes (25%)A university that values the careers of its graduates tends to produce successful alumni. Here, QS havesourced graduate alma maters from over 150 high-achievers lists, each measuring desirable outcomes ina parcular walk of life. In total, QS have analysed more than 39,000 of the world’s most innovave, creave, wealthy, entrepreneurial, and/or philanthropic individuals to establish which universies areproducing world-changing graduates. This is roughly 30% more records than in the previous edion. Ahigher weighng is applied to those individuals featured in lists focused on younger profiles. Likewise, undergraduate degrees have a higher weighng than post-graduate degrees, as it is assumed that theearly stages of the higher educaon learning process leave a deeper mark in terms of employability.

Partnerships with Employers per Faculty (25%)This indicator comprises two parts. First, it uses Elsevier’s Scopus database to establish whichuniversies are collaborang successfully with global companies to produce citable, transformaveresearch. Only disnct companies producing three or more collaborave papers in a five-year period(2012-2016) are included in the count. This year’s ranking accounts for university collaboraons with2,000 top global companies, as listed by Fortune and Forbes.Second, it considers work-placement related partnerships that are reported by instuons and validatedby the QS research team. Both figures are adjusted to account for the number of faculty at each university, and then combinedinto a composite index.

Employer - Student Connecons (10%)This indicator involves summing the number of disnct employers who are acvely present on auniversity’s campus, providing movated students with an opportunity to network, and acquireinformaon in a recent 12 month period. Employer presence also increases the opportunity of studentsachieving career-launching internships and research opportunies. This ‘acve presence’ may take theform of parcipang in careers fairs, organizing company presentaons, or any other self-promongacvies. This count is adjusted by the number of students, accounng for the size of each instuon.

Graduate Employment Rate (10%)This indicator is the simplest, but essenal for any understanding of how successful universies are atnurturing employability. It involves measuring the proporon of graduates (excluding those opng topursue further study or unavailable to work) in full or part me employment within 12 months ofgraduaon. To calculate the scores, we consider the difference between each instuon’s rate and theaverage in each country. To draw in outliers, the results are adjusted by the range between themaximum and minimum values recorded in each country or region. This accounts for the fact that auniversity’s ability to foster employability will be affected by the economic performance of the countryin which they are situated.
