THE NATURAL PHENOMENA IN NORTHERN IRELAND
The natural phenomena in Northern Ireland is one of the most photographed and a popular attraction for tourists from around the world, the picturesque Dark Hedges is a beautiful avenue of beech trees planted by the Stuart family in the 18th century, which over the past 300 years or so, have been guarding either side of the lane, reaching up and across each other to create a truly majestic sight.
THE LEGEND OF GREY LADY
Legend tells that a supernatural ‘Grey Lady’ haunts the thin ribbon of road that winds beneath the ancient beech trees. She silently glides along the roadside and vanishes as she passes the last beech tree. Some say the specter is the ghost of a maid from the nearby house who died in mysterious circumstances centuries ago.
PRESERVATION FOR GENERATIONS TO COME
These trees are now protected by a Tree Preservation Order issued by the Northern Ireland Planning Service.
