What is the Holiday Initiative?

• The Holiday Initiative is a program created by the Dallas Stars and the Genesis Women’s Shelter to raise awareness and funds for the shelter. The program will consist of:

• 2 black tie events

• Raffles at all home games for the 2014-2015 season

• A toy drive for the children of the women at the shelter.

• The Dallas Stars will be sponsoring the Holiday Initiative, with all proceeds going directly to the Genesis Women’s Shelter.

What is the Genesis Women’s Shelter?

• The Genesis Women’s Shelter was created in January of 1985 and was sponsored by Shelter Ministries of Dallas.

• City of Dallas generously provided a seven bedroom site for only $1 a year.

• The shelter is still at this undisclosed location today.

• The shelter sees an average of 1000 women for counseling and houses 650 women and children annually

Why a Holiday Initiative?

• The availability of a room can often mean the difference between life and death.

• In January of 1988, groundbreaking began on a new wing of the undisclosed location. Once opened, it was immediately filled to capacity.

• In 1993, Genesis expanded three times and even with 10,000 counseling hours already provided, there is still a waitlist of over 200 women.

• One unmet need of the Shelter is longer term housing for women after they complete the 6 week Shelter program.

Our Success

• With such a large return for a small investment, and the continued generosity of the Dallas Stars, the 2014-2015 Holiday Initiative will be one of the most successful charity drives in the history of the Dallas Stars.

• We are asking the Chamber of Commerce for an investment of $10,000.00 USD.

• With this investment, the Dallas Stars will be able to move forward with the Holiday Initiative, and set in motion a program to help those going through a rough time.
