    ITHE CURSE AND THE CURE

The other day a lady told me that her brother had gone ber-serk. She did not know what to do, for he had shut himselfup in the bathroom and was loading a pistol. He said that hewas going to kill his wife and daughter. Then he was going tokill himself. Immediately we drove to that house and wentin. As I entered I heard him inside the bathroom with thedoor shut. Iwas acquainted with the "Click, Click" noise. Hewas loading an automatic pistol! She called him, but hewould not answer. We kept hearing the "Click, Click" sound.

Soon the door opened and he walked out with the loadedgun. Igot real close to him, set him down on a couch, andprayed for him. I discovered that it was really a suicide spiritwhich had hold on him. He told me that was the last day thathe would ever live. He said he would never get through thatday.

As Ilaid my hand on his head something happened. He be-gan to cry like his heart would break. He shook like a leaffor some ten minutes. I felt the fire of God going through him.He told me that he had not been able to sleep without seda-tives for a week.

"Lie down and sleep," Isaid. "You can sleep now. In a fewdays something will take place. There will be a change." Ifelt like Ihad prayed through. So Islipped out of the houseand went home.

His wife said that she would never live with him again. That is why he was going to kill her. Italked to her, but shesaid that there was no use talking; for she would never livewith him. She promised that she would go to church with thedaughter.

The next day the man's sister came to my office. Shebrought me the pistol and made me a present of it. Her bro-ther had gone to bed and gone to sleep in five minutes after Ileft the house. He slept all night with the gun under his shirt. But the desire to murder had gone! He no longer wanted tokill.

He feels like he is saved. He has since been going to churchand praying. He has never felt this way before.

Within a few days his wife phoned him. She was willing togo back to him and reunite their home.

Curse of VexationOne of the curses that came on man when he fell is vexa-

tion of spirit. Multiplied millions of people are walking thestreets today almost ready to go berserk and yield to some evilspirit. That is part of the curse (Deut. 28:20). Jesus came todestroy the works of the devil (IJohn 3 :8). He arose fromthe grave and gave us power over all the power of the enemy.(Luke 10:19). He led captivity captive (Eph. 4:8).

Jesus is the Second Adam. He came to undo what the firstAdam did. He came to take our place that we might take Hisplace. He was made a curse for us. Cursed is every man thathanzeth on a tree (Gal. 3:13).

The Curse of SinJesus came to save people from their sins, not in their sins

(Matt. 1:21). The blood of Jesus Christ cleanseth us fromALL sin (l John 1 :7). He is the Lamb of God that takethawav the sin of the world. (John 1 :29). Jesus opened the pri-

the agony of childbirth, for that is one of the curses thatcame on man at the fall (Gen. 3 :16; I Tim 2:15). Jesus liftedthat curse. My wife was not supposed to live when Junior was born. The doctor rebuked me. He told me to go home and come backthe next day. She was not supposed to give birth to a childwithout an operation.

The doctor took his nurse to a. show. He told me to gohome and check with him the next day. I called on Jesus. The boy was born in a few minutes.

When my second boy was born the doctor told me the samething. He said it would not be until the next day, if then. I putmy faith to work. He put me out of the room. I sat in a chair.I had the assurance. I fell asleep. Jesus appeared to me andsaid "You have a son born." I awoke and ran up stairs. Therehe was - a seven pound boy!

When the midwives came to the mothers in Israel, theyfound that the mothers were so healthy that the childrenwere already born (Ex. 1:19). Pharaoh could not understandthat. Itmade him angry, but his persecution led to their de-liverance from bondage. They trusted in the Lamb withoutblemish that was made a curse for them.

Curse on Wild AnimalsAfter man fell the curse fell on the animals. Until then they

were all tame, as they will be when the curse is lifted (Isa.65 :28; Isa. 11 :6-7). After the first Adam sinned the cursefell on the lions, bears, leopards, and even the serpents (Gen.3:14-15). When the curse is lifted the lamb and the lion anda little child can all play together. For a Christian, through faith in the One Who Redeemedus from the curse, the curse can be lifted here (Luke 10 :19)."Nothing shall by any means hurt you."

I was preaching under the big tent in Meridian, Mississippi.I felt this faith come upon me. I said, "If a snake comes upthat aisle I can tell it to go back and leave me alone and itwillobey me." In about a minute I saw a snake come right up theaisle. I commanded it to go back. It did.

    4

Paul picked up a snake and it did not hurt him (Acts 28:5).Believers shall pick up serpents (Mark 16:15-18).

The poison in the serpents is of the devil. If our faith isworking we can pick up a serpent or drink deadly poison withno ill effects (Matt. 15:16-17).

There is a pattern in the Bible for everything. Paul did notpick up that serpent on purpose. The sons of the prophets didnot eat the deadly poison on purpose. We don't get sick onpurpose just to prove that God can heal us. We don't getpossessed with a devil on purpose to prove that we have pow-er. We don't speak with tongues by our own power to provemiracles. It is written that thou shalt not tempt the Lordthy God. The devil tried to get Jesus to jump from the temple. He refused (Matt. 4:7). Itmust be done according to the pat-tern.

A mad bull came at Brother Branham. He started his faithto work. He spoke to the bull and told it to turn and go back.It obeyed him. When Jesus was on the Mount of Temptationwild animals came and attacked Him. He had no protection, except the angels that came to His rescue. He was anointedwith the Spirit. He said we can do the same thing if we re-ceive the anointing (John 14:12).

Curse on the EarthWhen Adam sold himself into sin the curse fell on the earth. It would not yield its increase. Up until then all that God

created was good for food (Gen. 1:12; 2 :9). After the cursepoison weeds came up. Man became addicted to dope and ni-cotine. (Gen. 3:2-17-18).

Tobacco is more poison than alcohol, Millions of people overthe earth are deceived by a lie. They believe the lies toldabout it. Tobacco companies sell men's souls for money.

People told me I could not run a business without selling to-bacco. They said I would go broke. I stayed in business twelveyears and nroved them wrong.

We have seen teaming thousands of people instantly de-livered from the deadly effects of tobacco. Some of the bestauthorities say cancer is traced directly to tobacco.

Recently a man told us that he had been smoking sixtyyears. He had been offering one thousand dollars to anyonewho could help him quit. Jesus set him free instantly for no-thing. lie was saved and filled with the Holy Ghost. He ac-cepted the "ure of the curse.

Brother Frisby was bound by dope, tobacco and alcohol. Hewas a chronic. He was put in the institution, where he sawpeople that roared like lions, laughed like hyenas.' and hissedlike serpents. He read one of my books. He was Instantly de-livered, healed, saved, filled with the Spirit, and began to holddeliverance revivals and set others free. Isaw him lay handson an alcoholic as he walked down the sidewalk. The man wasinstantly delivered. He was saved and filled with the HolyGhost. Isaw him since then; he was still shouting.

Curse of PovertyAfter Adam fell he was sentenced to hard labor. He had toearn his bread by the RW at of his brow (Gen. 3:19). Thecurse came on all men. The earth would not yield its increase

(Gen. 17). Pestilence attacked the fruit of th: ground until ~twas cast off before hurvost. The heavens WIthheld the ram(Deut, 28). .The Lord came along and offered redemption from that.Man can pay his tithes and offerings, God will kill the potatobugs, send the rain, and let the earth yield the fruit. That iswhat faith in the Cure will do (Mal. 3:8-14; Haggai, chapters 1and 2).

Job took advantage of this and God blessed him. He wouldmake Henry Ford look like a little boy in deep water. Abra-ham's faith caused him to overcome this curse. He was therichest man in all the land. He taught his boys to believe forvictory over the psychology of poverty. Even Moses knewthat God would give us power to get wealth (Deut. 8:18).He led millions of people out of bondage without sickness. They had plenty of silver and gold. They did that after theyate the flesh of the lamb (Ex. 12:11). They were trusting thecure from the curse. Solomon and his son David were not pau-pers. It is God's will for us to prosper and be in health (III

    6

John 2). He says if we use this faith whatsoever we do shallprosper. (Amen) (I Ps. 1:3), (Ps. 105:37).If you use your faith everyone can have a job that he en-joys. They can whistle while they work. They will not put theirwages in a bag with holes in it (Hag. 1:6).I started in business on one dollar; in twelve years 1 cashedout for enough to build four churches and a parsonage, and

preach for three years without accepting a penny. When Iwas on the farm I walked up those potato rows andprayed. 1 told the Lord I would give tithes and offerings. Un-til then my potato vines were loaded with potato bugs. Afterthen God made fertilizer out of them. They were all dead onthe ground. The other farmers did not make their seed back.Imade prize potatoes. My barns overflowed with plenty(Prov 3:10). Some do not believe this. They believe in thepsychology of poverty. But if you believe the Word of Godthen you shall have success (Josh. 1:8).

IIDON'T BLAME THE LORDWe were riding along in the car the other day when a lady

in the back seat was asking me some Bible questions. Shesaid that she was bothered about a certain Scripture thatsaid all things that we asked, believing, we could receive. Shesaid many times she asked the Lord for something. She be-lieved that she would receive it, but she didn't. She insistedthat J tell her why that verse would not work.1 told her, "If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you,ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you."If you say that you do not receive what you ask believingthen His word is not abiding in you. The devil's word is abid-

ing in you. I';very day of your life you are either saying whatGod says or what the devil says. If you say what God says, youhave that. If you say what the devil says, you have that. Youhave what you say (Mark 11:23).

A Lady in the PlaneA lady in a plane asked me, "If God is a just God why didHe take my little girl'?" That showed that she doubted Hisbeing just. That was a direct insult to the Lord.

In the first place the Lord did not take her girl. Could notSatan be to blame for sending the disease? Could not thewoman be to blame for not being a Christian, so she couldpray the prayer of faith?Jesus came not to destroy our lives but to save our lives(Luke 9 :56). He came to destroy the works of the devil. (IJohn 3:8). Satan comes to kill, to steal and destroy (John10..;..10).Satan is busy, wanting to destroy our lives. JesusIsbusy, wanting to save our lives. All you need to do is to readthe New Testament through to learn that. The Lord says if we live for Him, have faith and know Hiswill for us, that He will fulfill the number of our days. (Ex.23 :26). There are plenty of people that do not live out halftheir days. Satan kills them before their time. (Eccl, 7: 17).The Lord told Hezekiah thal he was going to die. He prayedthe prayer of faith and was healed. He lived fifteen yearslonger. (Isa. 37:5). Thousands of people failed to do as Heze-kiah. They died at an early age. Then some preacher toldtheir wife that God took them. The woman with lhe issue of blood pressed through andtouched the hem of Jesus' clothes. She was made whole aftershe was pronounced incurable. A great number of womenhave failed to press through and receive healing. They are inthe grave now. God gets the blame. for killing them.

The Man From KansasI was talking to one man that believed what is to be will be.

Had Hezekiah believed that he would have died fifteen yearsearlier.

The Lord says that we can lengthen our lives, or shortenOUI' lives, according to the way we live (Eph. 6 : 3). Children, obey your parents that your days may be long. We are prom-ised long life if we abide in the secret place of the Most 11igh(Ps. 91 :6). The number of our days would be three score amiten years (Ps. 91 :6). The Word of the Lord says that munypeople are dead before their time, because they do not rightlydiscern the Lord's body. In His body we find healing' (Isu.fi:~:fi;] Cor. 6:30).

    8

Peter was in jail. The church made prayer for him. This pre-vented him from having his head cut off. They did not praythat way for James. They let him go ahead and die, and nodoubt claimed that God took him.The Nobleman's son was at death's door. His father cameto Jesus. Jesus healed the boy. Many dads would have failedto pray. They would have let him die, and then blamed theLord for killing him. (John 4 :46). "Ye will not come unto methat ye may have life" (John [i:40).

Lady in DallasYesterday Imet a lady that lold me that all prophecy willcome to pass. She said there is nothing- we can do about it.Even some prophecies are on conditions.

The Lord said that a king would die. Judgment would fallon him. The king repented. The Lord said that le would notbring- it to pass in the kine's days, but in his son's days (IKi.21 :~!). Ahab prayed. God prolonged judgment. The Lord sentword lo about two million people by Jonah. Jonah went downand told the Ninevites that they would be destroyed in fortydays. They prayed and cried out to God. God heard them andwithheld judgment. Their lives were spared. Moses was toldby th., Lord that about two million children of Israel wouldbe dcxl.royed. Moses interceded for them. Their lives weresaved (Ex, 32 :10,32). Moses could have let them walk outunder judgment and be destroyed, and then have blamed Godfor it. Abraham could have played golf or fooled away histime ill some manner. He could have failed to intercede forLot. lie could have let Lot be killed and blamed God.

It is not God's will that any should perish, but that allshould come to repentance (II Peter 3 :9). It is His will foreveryone to repent now.No doubt America was ripe for judgment in 1914. Thepeople of God prayed all across America. Judgment was pro-longed. In I!MI some believed that judgment was about to fallon our country. Saints of God interceded from coast to coast.Judgmenl was held back, giving us a chance to pray downthe greatest revival this country has ever had.

Woman in ArkansasIknow of a lady in Arkansas whose husband died drunk.

She said God took him. Bloody and deceitful men don't livehalf their days (Ps. 55 :23). The Lord is not to blame forwars, cyclones, 200,000 suicides annually. or 50,000 deaths Oilthe highways each year. No, the devil is to blame. The manthat made the whiskey, that caused these wrecks, is to blame. The man that sells it is to blame. The man that votes it in isto blame. The preacher that fails to preach against it is tcblame.

The Lord has not promised to SltHI His angels to pro tedpeople if the angels are not welcome, They won't stay thereand listen to the name of the Lord being blasphemed con-tinuously. Iknow of a lady that lived like the devil. She wentto dances and night clubs. ller little girl was left alone athome. The girl burned to (It-ath. She blames God for takingher daughter.

Millions are going straig-Itl to hell. They are running overall the blockades Cod puts lip. They run over the prayers ofall of Goo's people. Then they say that God surely won't sendthem to hell. Ilell was not prepared for them. Itwas preparedfor Satan and his followers. I f you refuse to go to heaven thatis the only place left to go.

A Sister in ('hurchRegardless of what takes place this sister says, "Every-

thing works together for good." If her husband dies with acancer; if she has her fourth stroke; if her girl commits sui-cide; if her boy goes insane; she says God sent all this, thatit is working for good. Why does she not blame herself for notusing her faith, for following the tradition of the elders thatmakes the Word of God of none effect, for not knowing t hI"will of God?

After Joshua entered Canaan he still had to fig-ht l . lu: g-i-ants. He still had to do some fighting to possess his I'I).'-IS(Ssions, You can't lie and be too lazy to pray, and t hr-n hlnmeGod.

The Bible does not teach that everything- works tog'dh('r for10

good. That is only when the Holy Ghost is interceding throughyou, bringing the will of God to pass in your life (Rom. 8 :26,32). The Holy Ghost will not pray contrary to God's will. Ifwe pray according to ll is will we receive the answer (l John5: 14). It is God's will that we be well (lTI John 2).

Some people will stay at home from church; they cause arevival to be a failure; their people are lost; and then theysay all of it is sent by God. What kind of church would mychurch be if all the members were just like me?

The Lady in LouisianaShe carne to me crying, saying' that she was called to preach.

She said her mother would not let her preuch : her husbandwould not let her go; her preacher would not ask her topreach. T told her she should be ashamed for insulting theLord. He will not ask her to do something she could not do,and then punish her for not doing it. He knew all about hermother, her husband, and her pastor when I-Ie called her. TheLord never calls anyone to preach unless He has a message forhim, and has a place for him to preach.A man came to me last week. He said he was a preacher, but he never had a break. lIe said he had no open door.Brother, the world is the field (Matt. 13 :38). Go into all theworld. You can't lie on the bed in the day-time asleep, withyour mouth open, catching flies, and dig out a church. If youwould work as hard building a church as an insurance sales-man works, you will have two 01' three churches.

You don't need to go to the churches. You need to reachthe unrcached. Dig out a dozen new churches ancl SundaySchools. You will have plenty of open doors. It is not a sin towork and preach both. Paul did. Iwill admit many preachershave nice churches, but they had no time to lie up and sleep. They prayed. They interceded. They worked. If they don'tkeep working they will soon lose their churches.

The Man With the BoilsJob lost his arnels, children, servants, wife, and all he had.

His wife blamed God. (Job 2:9). He thought God did it (Job1:21). IIe expected God to slay him (Job 13:15).

This book was written to show that Satan is to blame for11

the pains and sorrows we bear (Luke 10:19; Acts 10:38).Job was a good man, but tradition made the Word of God ofnone effect. God had a long talk with him. Job saw thingsdifferen tly. He was healed.

Many good saints today blame God for their sickness. Theysay that God gave it to them in order to get people saved. They say it is a blessing, but they don't ask for a doubleblessing. They say it is the will of God, but they have Hiswill cut out. If you turn on your lights and they refuse toshine, you would not blame the light company.

Friends, if you will do like Job, repent for blaming the Lord;if you will memorize Exodus 15:26, Isaiah 53:5, and Psalms34: 19; if you will say what God says : you will have what yousay (Mark 11 :23). I command 'your healing to begin as youquote these verses daily. In Jesus' name. Amen.

IIIRAPJ'IS'l' PREACHER RECEIVES BAPTISMI thank God for the teaching that T received at the Prairie

Bible Institute ill Cuuadu, especially the self-life teaching.I was ordained in the Sou them Baptist Convention andevangelized ill and around Austin, Texas, before I took a pas-torate in Wimberley. My heart was hungry for the realitythere was in Jesus Christ. J wanted something real. I wantedto see the Lord work like IIe used to work. I did not knowanything about the Baptism of the Holy Ghost, as I now knowit, as I had been schooled against it all my life. I had beentaught that certain manifestations of the Holy Spirit were ofthe devil. In reading the Word of God, and praying alone, Ibegan to realize that there was something more than I had.[ knew that this was in the Baptism of the Holy Ghost, likethe early Christians possessed.

I realized that we are in the Church age now, that we nrein the same dispensation that Peter and John lived in, thatJesus never changes. He is the same yesterday, today, andforever. My heart became real hungry for the Baptism of theHoly Spirit in revival fire. I began to really pray and seek theLord. 1 would go into the woods, behind my church, and readthe Book of Acts through. I believe that the Book of Acts

    12

has done more for me than any other book in the Bible. Itisreally the Acts of the Holy Spirit, for God used many peoplethat were not apostles. If we want to know how the HolySpirit acts now we need to read and see how He acted then.

Ministry in WimberleyOne night, after I had been pastoring this church for about

two years, we had to deal with a boy with epilepsy. We were atthe "Cedar Cutters Camp" on Sunday afternoon, a little workwhich we had started, and where there were many souls saved.

There was a knock on our door one night after ten o'clock. There were two men from the camp. They told us that theepileptic boy had been hurt in an accident. They wanted usto come and pray at once. I said, "Lord, something must hap-pen tonight. The people are looking to us. They may lose con-fidence in us. The young converts may not think that we havethe real Christ, which we have been preaching, if He can'tanswer prayer."

I left the house with fear and trembling. God was good tome. He brought to my mind James 5: 14-15: "Is any sickamong you? let him call for the elders of the church; and letthem pray over him, anointing him w.ith oil in the name of theLord shall raise him up: And the prayer of faith shall save thesick, and the Lord shall raise him up ... "

I reminded the Lord that it was not my business to raisehim up, but it was my part to lay hands on him and pray. Then it came to my mind how Jesus put everyone out of theroom but His disciples.

As I arrived at the tent there were many people huddledover the boy, enough to smother him. I asked everyone toleave. Then T asked the boy if there was any sin in his life. Hetold me that he smoked, but he was willing to quit the habit. He gave me his cigarettes. We hunted for some oil, but therewas none to be found. Then we took some coal oil out of a lampand anointed him with it. I then told the Lord the rest wasup to him. The buy was made whole.

I went back to my ltaptist church overjoyed with what theLord had done. A meeting was called and 1 was asked toleave the church. Itwas left to a vote and 1 stayed.

Ministry in San AntonioA few months later I felt led to resign my church andmove to San Antonio, Texas, where we pastored the Chinese

Baptist under the Southern Baptist Home Mission Board. Myheart was crying out for more of the Lord. Ihad a deep dis-satisfaction. My mind was disturbed. Idecided that Iwas go-ing to please God at any cost. Iwanted the Holy Spirit Bap-tism, but my theology confused me. I was up and clown, in andout. All this time God was saving souls. Missionaries were be-ing sent out from our ministry.Ifelt impressed to go on a 21-day fast. We started a prayer

meeting from six to seven each morning. This ran for fouryears without a break. Had I know Cod's will for me Iwouldhave received the Holy Ghost then. God was blessing, butwe were afraid to yield to tho Spirit. The Lord said to me, "I am goillg- to take everything awayfrom you, but you just Lruxt me. I know what Iam doing".Our Bible school, laud, radio broadcast, church, leadership ofthe Youth for Christ, aud evurv th ing was taken from us.Minist ry In DallasAfter everv l.hirur was gone I was directed to move to Dallas,Texas, and pastor' a church. One night as I was beside the bed praying, reading Hebrewsone and two the Lord Jesus appeared to me and lifted me up.Whether in the body or out of the body Icannot tell. lIe putHis arms around me and k issed me on the cheek. I had jovunspeakable and full of glory. Three different times the LordJesus appeared to me. Iread where Jesus appeared to Paul illa vision, but still he did not have the Holy Ghost Baptism.(Acts 9).I had heard of \ 1 1 , ' . V. Those prayers we prayed in Brother Grant's office wereanswered. Two weeks later Brother Martin came to my home.He was a missionay from Brazil. The Lord told him to cometo Dallas, although he did not know a soul there. He wasasked by one of my former members to contact me. He wrotemy name wrong. Itseemed that the way he found me was nothing short of a miracle from God.

The day Brother Martin arrived in Dallas happened to bethe day that Iwas praying. Iasked the Lord if what Ihadread about the Holy Ghost was real to send someone by myplace to confirm it. As Iwas driving by the church Isaw a'man with a brief case in his hand. Itwas Brother Martin.

Later he told me that he was praying, "Lord, you can sendthat man by here in his automobile". Idid not stop, but whenIarrived home Isaw this same man, with the brief case in hishand. Iknew that. he was God's man. Between us there hasbeen an unbroken fellowship since that day.

Ministry of PrayerIinvited Brother Martin over to the church for a season ofprayer. After talking in the study we knelt at the altar in thechurch. We prayed Friday night, Saturday morning, Saturdayafternoon, Saturday night, and Sunday morning. Ipreached

Sunday morning. Then Brother Martin and Iwent to thechurch Sunday afternoon for prayer. The Lord said to me, "Igive the I Ioly Ghost unto them that obey me." As we sangsome choruses my hands went up and Iwent down. Then Iwas all over that place. Wave after wave of God's power sweptover my soul; inside, outside, all about me and all over me! Itreminded me of someone above me pouring water over me,and all around me. I started to my Bible class at 7:00 o'clock, but each Lime Itouched the door knob I would fold up underthe power of God. tin would preach in my place. After the message he asked meto testify to what God had done for me. I did not say much, for the audience saw I was melted down. The altar was linedwith people seeking the Holy Spirit.

The next day one of the head men came over in an angryfit. It seemed like he might kill me. I invited him to pray withme. r prayed, but he couldn't. About a month later his angerwore off. J went and prayed with him. I answered his ques-tions. He rebelled against the Lord and began drinking.

Anointed MinistryBrother Martin did not mean to stay but two days, but he

stayed fourteen. He answered my questions even before Iasked him. Many Southern Baptist preachers are hungry for the Bap-

tism of the Holy Spirit. Several of them came and prayedwith me. Some of them received this experience and are go-ing on with God. Dozens of our members have received theHoly Spirit Baptism, including my wife and four of our sixchildren. God has led me to Brazil and many places to witnessabou t th is fuII gospel experience.

The Lord laid it on my heart to re-establish the Bible SchoolHe had seen fit to Lake from me. We opened up day classes formissionary Bible Training. God sent a buyer for our churchproperty and permitted us to get five acres of land just out-side the Dallas city limits. We are building dormitories forthe boys and girls. Do pray that God will supply the need forthe pupils that are coming in.

I would not trade the last three years of my ministry forall the fifteen previous years. I have seen God work in lives, souls saved, many filled with the Holy Spirit Baptism, demonscast out, and people healed of most all manner of sickness anddisease.

The Baptism of the Spirit is not the end; it is the beg-inningof a richer life and ministry. We will press on until tho giftsof the Spirit are manifested in a greater way. Wl' only wantto be a channel for God to use for His own glory.

CHURCH OF CHRIST PREACHERPreachers and books I once claimed were from the Devil Inow realize to be from the Lord. Just recently have I person-

ally met Brother W. V. Grant. I discovered some of the bookshe has written. These greatly blessed my heart. Since thenI have ordered and studied many books from the pen of thisGod-inspired vessel. From the first until now I have beendeeply impressed and helped by his direct, dear, striking styleof expressing the wonderful truths of God! His definitions,Bible and personal examples of the operation of spiritual gifts, rank among the best ever published. And his books on divinehealing, dealing with the questions and objections against it,have truly enlightened me and strengthened my faith. Formany years I ridiculed and slandered such men as BrotherGrant. But now that the Lord has turned me "About Face!"I can appreciate and rejoice in their ministries!

I was born and raised in the religious denomination knownas the "Church of Christ," or "Christian Church." My par-ents are st.ill in this group and so is my older and only brother. In fact, he is a nationally-known evangelist among theirchurches.

I was born again on my sixteenth birthday. I was celebrat-ing my birthday at a beautiful picnic grounds near my homein Johnson City, Tennessee. As I ate the picnic supper withmy mother and dad, God began dealing with my heart. Ifound myself wondering very seriously for the first time inmy life, "J list why was I born, anyway? Here I am, now six-teen years old. Why am I here'? Where am I headed in the fu-ture?" My only desire at that time was to continue in myhigh school R.O.T.C. military training and then enter theMarine Corps as a lifetime career. Twice I had run away from

home and had to be brought back by the Tennessee StateHighway Patrol. My heart was very wicked and I had driftedfar away from God. I had "joined the church" and been bap-tized when I was eleven, but I wasn't saved. I was just a poorthieving, lying, lustful, and thoroughly wretched boy with a lotof problems. But God pressed such a heavy conviction of heav-en, hell, eternity, and my sins on me that I couldn't eat mybirthday supper. My parents wondered what was wrong withme, and I wouldn't tell them. But Brother, I praise God for theway He dealt with me! The minute I got home I ran to my up-stairs bedroom. I fell before God, I prayed, I cried, and I gavemy heart to the Lord Jesus Christ!

My Heart Was HungryI fell deeply in love with Jesus and His Word that day! My

life changed completely and overnight, praise God! My school-mates wondered what had happened to me. I carried my littleNew Testament everywhere I went and told them. Most ofthem didn't like at all what I preached to them and they triedto persecute me out of the school. God gave me more thanenough grace to stand. How I studied that Bible! Many a nightI would humbly plead with God to give me more of the HolySpirit! If He had tried to baptize me in the Holy Ghost at thattime I probably would have been scared silly, since I waswarned against it as being fanaticism and having all passedaway. And yet I continued to be conscious of a need for muchmore power and a deeper spiritual life with God. I know thatthere are many modern-day preachers and church membersthat have only a head-knowledge; that never have been bornagain in a real experience of saving grace from Jesus. Butsome of them truly do find the Lord and how I thank God I wasone of them! Otherwise I doubt I would ever have had theheart-hunger that finally led me into the baptism in the HolyGhost!

sessed "the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth,so help us, God!" Especially did I bitterly oppose everythingunder the "Pentecostal" label, branding it fanaticism and emo-tionalism and the devil's "Big Lie". I was thoroughly con-vinced that all those claiming the baptism in the Holy Spirit, tongues, miracles, etc., were either "ignorant, crazy, hypno-tized, or demon-possessed"! Many times I would visit serviceswhere the baptism and gifts of the Spirit were experiencedand seek to persuade the preachers and people that they werewrong. On two different occasions I went in and actually brokeup services in Spirit-filled churches by debates and interrup-tions.

One time there was a brush-arbor meeting in Sapulpa, Okla.in 1954. This other Church of Christ preacher and I plannedhow we would go into the service and gain the confidence ofthe people by pretending to be one of them. Then at the pro-per moment we would seize the service and preach forth ourdoctrines to them. This we did! We sang so well on the frontrow that we were invited into the choir. I then sang so loud theregular song leader invited me to lead a few songs. That wasthe opening I was waiting for! I then called my friend fora "brief testimony." He preached for about twenty minutes, setting the stage for me. Then I started and wouldn't quituntil I had pumped boldly against tongues, healings, miracles, anything supernatural for our day. This broke up the service. Then we went around personally to the people trying to per-suade them further. Another time in Cincinnati, Ohio, twoushers had to escort me bodily out of the building.

Ignorant of God's PowerAnother lime I was in a church in Arkansas. That night Iwent up during the altar call and dragged a girl who was seek-

ing God away from the altar! I took her to the back of thechurch and tried to convince her she was wrong in her re-ligion. Several of the mer; of the church rushed back to us,very angry and upset. One of them was the deputy sheriffand he threatened to arrest me for breaking up the worshipservice. I barely got out of being thrown in jail that night. Many other times I went into churches in Ohio, Tennessee,

Oklahoma, and other states. I mocked, I criticized, I tried myhardest to break up full gospel services through debates andinterruptions. I was zealous like Saul of Tarsus, but not ac-cording to knowledge. If I had been given legal authority, Imight have thrown many full gospel people into jail, think-ing to please God by getting what I considered "false pretend-ers" and "mentally unbalanced" people out of the way!But all this I did in ignorance, dear friends, and God Al-mighty was patient and rich in mercy toward me. Oh, Hallelu-jah, what amazing grace that He did give me a chance andfinally take the veil from off my eyes! But all during these years of my blind prejudice and tradi-tion, the Lord God was slowly and surely dealing with me. Ibegan to see that the doctrine I was preaching was not pro-ducing the real fruits of New Testament Christianity. I saw aform of godliness, but not much power! I couldn't see muchchange in the lives of the people I preached to. So many hadjust a head-knowledge about Jesus, but didn't seem to knowHim personally as reigning in their hearts. This disturbed megreatly. And then as the years went by I found myself becom-ing more and more dry and dead, spiritually. I began to seekGod for the answer to the spiritual problems in my own heartand in the hearts of my people. I tried several things, butnone seemed to do the job.Receives the Holy GhostIn February of 1962, I attended a gathering of Church ofChrist and Christian Church preachers in southeast Kansas. There, for the first time in my life, I heard Don Hurley, aChurch of Christ preacher from Colorado tell how he hadrecently been baptized in the Holy Spirit! He was a friend ofmine, and three times in our presence, while we would be pray-ing, God spoke messages to us through him in tongues andinterpretations. This really stunned me! I thought, "0 God!Could all of this really be for our day, after all? l lave I beenso wrong for so long?" But I still wasn't convinced. I wentback home and for ten days sought God in prayer and Biblestudy regarding all these things. The Spiri t of Cod graciouslyopened my eyes to the Scripture and I saw that truly God is

doing the same thing today that He did in the days of Christand the Apostles!I grew very, very hungry for the Lord to fill me with the

Holy Spirit and supernatural power. On February 26, 1962, Ifasted and prayed to God that He might prepare my heartand build my faith to receive all He had for me. That day Iwanted the Holy Ghost more than Iwanted life itself! I laidon the altar of my church where Iwas preaching, my car, myparsonage, and the furniture. Since Jesus baptized me in HisBlessed Spirit I have lost all of them. But how I do praiseGod for giving me something much more valuable! Praise Hisglorious Name forever! I also laid my wife and one-year-oldson, whom I greatly cherish, on the altar that day. God hasgraciously permitted me to keep them. However, to a greatextent. I have lost my father, my mother, and my only bro-ther. But for all I have lost, the Bible promises me a "hun-dred fold in this life, with persecutions, and in the world tocome, eternal life." Thank God! Many former friends now callme "ignorant, crazy, hypnotized, and demon-possessed," justlike I used to accuse Spirit-filled people!

Twelve Preachers FilledOn February 27, 1962, my son's first birthday, two Spirit-

filled preachers south of Tupelo, Mississippi laid their handsupon me (mel prayed for me. For a minute or two I prayedand praised God in the English language, earnestly beseech-ing Il im to fill me full of His precious Spirit. Suddenly I felta great Fort-e welling up within my innermost being. As I con-tinued prayillg and praising God, suddenly I felt great glory, power, and Freedom flooding my soul. It expressed itself likerivers of living waters gushing forth through my lips. Forthirty minutes or so I praised God with all my heart in theunknown tongues I had despised for a lifetime! I was trulylifted into heavenly places, and God bathed my soul in divinelove, joy, pence, and power. Oh, what a wonderful Lord, to dothis for me, after all I had done against this truth. I amthrilled to report that twelve other Church of Christ andChristian Church preacher friends of mine have been baptizedin the Holy Ghost!

Continually, since the day God filled me, I have enjoyed thespiritual refreshing of praying, praising, and singing in unknown tongues unto God. The baptism in the Holy Spirit hasproven to be a marvelous door through -which God has ledboth my wife and me in the spiritual and supernatural realm. The Bible is more alive and more precious than ever. God hasfreed me from traditional misinterpretations of Scrinture!Jesus is real and powerful. And to this day I have found thisexperience to be just as real, satisfying, and Scriptural as theday it first happened.I sought the Lord-s-He heard my cry. Miracles Win SoulsI read in Brother Roberts' magazine how Lester Sumrall

went to the Philippine Islands in 1952. There the City ofManila was opened to the gospel because of one miracle. Thedevils that bit a girl were cast out by Brother Sumrall, in thename of Jesus. The girl was set free and the officials knew it.I compared this to the Biblical accounts, where whole citieswere opened to the gospel because of one miracle. When Peterraised Dorcas up many people believed on the Lord. He stayedin that country, preached, and won souls for months.

The miracle that took place in the upper room caused threethousand souls to be saved. The miracle at the Gate calledBeautiful won five thousand more souls. The miracles in Sa-maria caused Philip to see many converts. When miraclesfollowed Paul's preaching many believed on the Lord. Whenpeople saw the healings under Jesus' ministry many acceptedHim as the Christ.

The Anointing Wins SoulsI saw that no miracle took place in Jesus' ministry until He

received the Holy Ghost. Then the anointing of the HolyGhost was on Him to set the people free (Acts 4:18). He didall His works under the Holy Ghost anointing (Acts 10 :3~).It was not He that did the work, but the Father that dwelledin Him (John 14:10). The Father does not dwell in us untilafter we receive the Holy Ghost Baptism (John 14:17).

After Jesus went back to heaven the disciples could do nomiracles until they received the Holy Ghost. They were com-manded to tarry until they were endued with power from onhigh. The ministry of the disciples became effective after theyreceived the Holy Ghost. They received power to be wit-nesses to the uttermost parts of the earth (Acts 18).

There Was Something LackingIn my group I heard some of the best preaching, but it

brought little results. I have heard new converts preach whenthey had great crowds and many conversions. They did nothave the training, but they preached with the Holy Ghost sentdown from heaven. It takes more than training. It takespower from on high.Jesus told those men He called to do three things: I-Ie saidfor them to preach the gospel, heal the sick, and cast out de-vils. Preaching the gospel is only one third of the command(Luke 9 :1-3). I Saw That I Must Have Power[ did not know how to receive this power. Then I saw plain-ly in the Word of God how Jesus commanded the disciples togo back and tarry until they received this power. They werenot to teach, heal, baptize or preach any more until they wereendued with power from on high (Luke 24 :46). He commandedthem to stay there until they received this power (Acts 14).They were told to teach us to observe the same command(Matt. 28:19-20).I saw that it was the anointing of power that breaks theyoke (lsa. 10:27; Luke 4:18; Acts 10:38). Each time thatJesus gave the Great Commission He stressed the power thatwent with it. (Mark 16:15-18; Matt. 28:19-20; John 20:20).I was trying to preach the Word, but I did not have the autho-rity. D. L. Moody said, "It is foolish to try to do God's workwithout God's power."

I Wanted God To Confirm the WordI wondered why my ministry was not effective. My fellowministers would try to console me by telling me that HisWord would not return unto Him void, that it would accomp-lish the purpose for which it was sent. In San Antonio, Tex-as, I was reading the Scripture. The words, I HAVE SENT,stood out from the pages of the Bible as a neon light. I wasmade to know that He must send it. We must wait until lIeendues us with power from on high. We must have the powerfrom on high. We must have the power of the Holy Ghostso the Word will be effective. We must not get ahead of theLord. If we want God to confirm the Word we must let the

signs follow. God worked with them with signs following. Hewill work with us if we will work with l Iim.

I Had Reservationsr sought the Baptism of the Holy Ghost many times. I de-termined my own actions. I decided the manifestations Iwanted to have. I was not perfectly willing to speak withother tongues.1 thought about my church prestige. Iwas afraid that ]might receive the wrong spirit, that I would not be popular. 1thought that J might lose my church and parsonage. I did notwant to lose my reputation and my minister friends. I thoughtmy many years of training would be wasted. Truly I was ona dead-end street. I felt like an elevator stuck between twofloors. r could hardly get up to the place to receive the powerof God and begin to deliver others. I did not want to go backdown to the old floor of formalism and dry theology.I saw that I had to die out. I became willing to lose all andfollow Jesus. I prayed, cried and sought God. I determinedto know nothing but Jesus and Him crucified.I learned that people of all denominations were receivingthe Baptism of the Holy Ghost. Then one day Evangelist W. V. Grant gave me about 120different titles of his faith books. As I begin to read thesefaith books on the Holy Ghost, faith, healing, and miracles Ifelt my faith begin to mount up. Faith comes by hearing andhearing by the Word of God (Rom. 8 :17). Then 1 came to theplace where r could clearly see that the Bible experienceshould be in our time. We need to carry tons of full gospel li-terature to all of the earth. Many good people in our ownland do not know this great truth. After I read Brother Grant's books, and other literature, Ifound that I had not been unwilling at all. The only thing thatI lacked was this: My faith needed to be inspired to receivethis great power that I already saw was right.

Tools To Work WithA preacher without the power is like a carpenter withoutnails, a tractor without gasoline, a car without a battery, aship without a sail, or a gun without a bullet. Theology with-out the Spirit of God is not enough.

I surrendered to God one night without reservations. Itseemed like a band fell from all around me. It was like pullingoff a tight coat and going to work. Itwas not so hard after myfaith was lifted up. It reminds me of little David that pulledoff Saul's armor. He went against the giant in the name ofthe Lord and won the battle.Since the night I received the Baptism of the Holy Ghostprayer is easier and more effective. It is easier to believe God.My faith does not look at circumstances. I am ready to work.

One day he was loaned a book "In His Image" by WilliamJennings Bryan. He was so impressed by this book that he be-came under conviction. Soon he gave his heart to the Lord.Faith for SalvationAfter he was converted, as a teenager, he liked to readevery tract he could get. While he was riding the harrow inthe corn field he read tracts. He was not living close to achurch. So he put all the extra money he could get into moretracts. l lc persuaded about two dozen teenagers to help himput t.racts into bundles, about twenty in a roll. They put redcellophane papers around them so each bundle looked like astick of candy. They put a bundle on the porch of each housein the cily of Malvern, Arkansas. That was before I marriedhim. Evangelist Grunt was away from home one year just afterhe was converted. lIe stayed upstairs at some friends' homein Port Lavaca, Texas. There he read about a hundred bookswritten by Spirit filled men. A preacher had stored them there.

This was before Brother Grant began to preach, but that sethis soul on fire until many people asked him if he was apreacher. Faith cometh by hearing (Rom. 10: 17). Immediate-ly he began to cast out devils and pray people through to theHoly Ghost.

These books caused him to become so interested in theBible that he read it through several times. He memorizedseveral chapters, including the Sermon on the Mount. He readevery magazine that he could find. He read every word in thePentecostal Evangel for about ten years. He saved those pa-pers making books out of them. Even before he acknowledgedhis call to preach he took seven years' correspondence courseand went to a ministerial training school four different years. He just wanted to read and learn more on faith.

Faith for HealingThe bones were decayed in my husband's leg for about 26

years. He was crippled with them when we married. Otherpeople with the same trouble are in the grave now. One dayhe was reading a book EVER INCREASING FAITH bySmith Wigglesworth. Faith flooded his soul. He went to thenearest church, was prayed for, and received healing. He hashad deep scars there for 26 years, to show what God hasdone. Faith comes by hearing.

After we began to pastor Brother Grant started a weeklypaper and mailed it out free to everyone on all the routes, telling them what God could do, and had done. He also in-stalled a library with hundreds of books in the first churchhe built. This proved that faith comes by hearing. Peopleheard the voice of faith with their inner ear as they read. Wecan write a sermon as well as we can preach one.

Faith To WriteHe felt like he could not rest unless he wrote down certain

things God revealed to him. Many times he arose in the mid-dle of the night to jot down truth God gave to him. lie wouldcarry that notebook with him all through the day.

When he wrote his first book he look it to the printer andfound that it made eleven books. The printer said, "You don'thave a book; you have a research." lIe made a decision to put

all the proceeds from books back into printing more books, tohelp carry the gospel around the world. Other people who puttheir book money in their pocket still have only two or threebooks (Matt: 25:25). God has given Brother Grant about onenew book each month for ten years. He began to send themall over the United States and to many different nations. Nowhe has millions of faith books in print. They are handled bymany churches, evangelists and many different publishinghouses the world over.

One educator read his book on Spiritual gifts and said, "Ohbrother, you write in the layman's language." There are morelaymen than there are theologians. The simplicity of thesewritings and the inspiration that goes with them causedpeople to be set free from fear, doubts, despondency, diseaseand sin. Testimonies flood the mail telling how people arehealed of most all manner of diseases. Many Christians recon-secrate their lives.

Faith for the HeathenA Baptist seminary saw what is taking place and gave

Brother Grant an honorary D.D. degree. He says he finds noplace to use it unless it is with the authorities going overseas. Many missionaries have read the Grant faith books and askedBrothel' Grant to come overseas. He has shipped these faithbooks by the teeming thousands overseas. Great revivals havefollowed as he went to the foreign countries. Many thousandsof people have had their faith inspired and come to God. He isin Africa as you read these lines, working with the FaithClinic training school there, and on his fourth missionaryjourney to that dark continent. One brother checked in Africaafter literature had been distributed and found that each 14cents spent there had won a soul. They were still saved. Thisevangelist may be counted ignorant and unlearned as werePeter and John, but those early evangelists turned the worldupside down and filled Jerusalem with their doctrine. Theyhave inspired millions with their writings. They did not writeabove people's head, but in language that everyone couldunderstand. People took knowledge of them that they hadbeen with Jesus.

Faith for the Holy SpiritThe Faith Clinic crusade has now reached around the world.

The sun never sets on these books. One man read the book"The Anointing of Power." He came to church, cut the cast offhis leg, threw away his crutches and ran all over the church, healed. A backslider in Baltimore was reading one book. Hesuddenly was delivered from dope, whisky, and tobacco. Hewas saved and filled with the Holy Ghost. A Presbyterian ladyfrom Seattle wrote, "I have read your book through threetimes. My tongue has been going for three days and nights. Idon't know how to stop it. Iwant to know how long it will bebefore Ican talk in my own Ianzuage." Many denominationalpeople have received the Holy (;host just after they read thebook on the Holy Spirit Baptism.

The Faith Clinic has started a correspondence course withmany thousands of students over the United States. It hasover a million books in it. About one thousand books havebeen sent out each day of the year for some time. Many peoplehave been inspired to g-o into the ministry after receiving adiploma from the Faith Clinic.

Faith Of False CultsOne million people are learning to read each week. They

believe anything they read overseas. One man walked fiftymiles to read one book. The Communists have taken half theworld by the printed page. The Jehovah Witnesses baptized6,000 people one day in Africa after they put out their books.Christian Science people have captured the minds of manyby their ' li terature. 500 million books are being printed eachyear. Overseas the sidewalks are loaded with Communist lit-erature teaching their religion. They put a third of what theymake in teaching their doctrine.
