The IoT application status in China(1)

Smart Manufacturing --IoT has been widely applied in such

links as the supply chain

management, optimization of

manufacturing process, equipment

monitoring and energy consumptions;

--Applied in such sectors as steel,

petrochemical, automobile

manufacturing. For example, RFID

is used in the key process in

automobile manufacturing, to realize

the dynamic scheduling in

assembling line, also in tracing and

identification of key components.

--More than 40% of sensors in China

are used in industry process control

and automobile electronics

Agriculture --Some pilot applications by

using in crops irrigation,

environment monitoring,

production circulation and

track.

--For example, the pilot

projects on meat and

vegetables circulation

tracing system had been

deployed in 20 cities co-

conducted by the Ministry

of Commerce and the

Smart Grid --In 2009, State Grid Corp. published the Smart Grid Plan, initiated such

pilots project as smart substation, smart distribution, smart power

consumption etc.

--So far 18 smart substations constructed, smart distribution networks are

deployed in 23 cities, 58.5 million smart electric meters were installed,

charging networks for electromobiles are building in several cities. 38 million

kilowatt of wind power and 450 thousand kilowatt of solar power were

connected in the state .

ITS --IoT was applied in railway system earlier

than others and working effectively, IoT just

began to be used in some pilot project in city

transportation, road and water way, Video

monitor is applied most widely.

--Highway Network Monitoring are

connected in more than 20 provinces. ETC

used in more than 1300 lines, which is 15% of

total toll , ETC users break 500 thousand.

--Smart city transportation is becoming a

focus, for example the penetration rate of ITS

within 5 rings of Beijing reached 40%,

improved the traffic capacity by 15%.

Healthcare --Still in the early phase, some pilot applications in remote health monitor,

RFID patient identification and positioning, RFID drug management.

——China is the world third RFID application market under the motivation

of such governmental projects as “Golden card project”, the second

generation of ID card etc.;

——Mobile payment has been developing rapidly, e.g. mobile payment

registered users of China Mobile reaches 40 million

——M2M in quick trace, e.g. M2M terminals of China mobile exceeded 11

million in July 2011, annually growth rate near 100% since 2004; M2M

terminal of China Telecom exceed 3 million in March 2011

Application target of several fields（to 2015）

The State Grid Company will install about 230 million smart electric

meters in the 12th five year plan, and support 9 billion kilowatt wind

power and 8 million kilowatt solar power.

National transportation infrastructure and operation monitor network

should be built up, ETC cover 60% of the highways, ETC lines exceed

6000, users exceed 5 million.

Beijing ITS operation system will cover all main road in central city.

Meat and vegetable circulation tracing system can cover cities with

more than 1 million population .

During the 12th five year, the focus of IoT in healthcare will be health

file, electronic medical record, remote healthcare system. The

penetration rate of health card and record reach 80%.
