FROM THE PRESIDENT’S

VIEW…

SAM THOMPSON

Well, we are at the end ofanother year for our Club andon the diving board for theNew Year, 2018.

As usual, we ponder andrejoice in the year just passedand wonder what lies in storefor us in this new year. We hada productive and enjoyableyear, not without itschallenging times, but thefellowship and goodgatherings, to say nothing ofthe food, far outweighed thefew times of trial.

We will be having a Board ofDirectors meeting in the nextfew days of January to planour year’s activities and setdates for those events. It is atime when we need andappreciate all the input we canget from our membership. Ihope we can get suggestionsand recommendations fromas many as possible at our

next meeting on January 9th. Itwill be at usual pace, IHOP,Fayetteville, at 6:00 pm to eatand then meet at 7:00.

I can’t let the opportunity goby without commenting on ourgreat Christmas party andsupper in December. We hadbetween 55 and 60 peoplepresent and I don’t know of asoul that didn’t enjoy it. Thefood was outstanding and asusual the dishes prepared bymembers (the ladies) wasbeyond delicious. It makesone almost wish Christmascame more than once a year.

We are encouraged in thisNew Year by the progresssome of our Club membersare making with their medicalissues.

We have a very good report onJeff Smith as he deals with adrawn out process in treatinghis lymphoma. He and father,Putt, are getting a little shoptime in finally, as everything islooking good on his treatment. He says he’s mainly tickledthat his hair is growing back.Jeff’s progress is certainlygood for the entire Smithfamily.

We add Skip Petsch to ourprayer list as he goes underthe knife on Monday, January8th for knee surgery.

Rod Hill continues to keep aclose eye, along with hisdoctors, on the effects of atumor taken off his pituitarygland about a year ago. We’llhave another update next

month. Patsy Holt continues toimprove and is getting out alittle. It was great to see herand Alvin at the Christmasparty.

We continue to offer up ourprayers for Gwen Grayson inher dealings with Alzheimers.

Charlie King continues tomake slow progress and weare thankful for that progress.

Because we didn’t have aformal meeting in December, there will be not meetingminutes this issue, but we dohave a Treasurer’s report.

Here are some notableJanuary events and whenthey will happen:

HAVE CHRISTMAS PARTY; HAVE FUN…!

The Club’s annual Christmas Party got off to a goodstart on December 12 when President SamThompson gave the annual “Biggest Contribution tothe Good of the Club” award for the year toTreasurer, Marie Mobley and Secretary, Betty Haven.Thompson commended the two for selflesslymaking two of the hardest jobs in the Club, lookeasy. They both acknowledged they gotconsiderable help and support from their husbands,Terry Mobley and Clarence Haven.

The Club was glad to get back to meeting at the Church on Highway 54, now known as ThePinecrest Church, where the party had been successfully held for several years. The cateredmeats and club-provided side dishes were typically showcased for their excellent nutrition andeye appeal, as one member put it.

The annual White Elephant gift exchange was eagerly anticipated as it always brings lots ofsurprises and sometimes red faces. This year, the traditional “White Elephant” gift made quite a

quite a comeback as Alvin Holt ended up witha 1957 Georgia Law book and a half used rollof toilet paper. There’s no doubt that prizewinning combination will show up at nextyear’s party en lieu of the old rusty lantern.

The rules of the game permit each gift to beswiped up to three times during the course ofthe evening resulting in either joy ordisappointment to a player. There are usually afew “hot” items that get waylaid early throughsome “under the table” antics... In the followingphotos, the gifts the persons are holding, maynot be the ones they took home, except forAlvin’s, of course.

Here are a few pictures made by MarieMobley...sorry we couldn’t get everyone in...
