THE CORK COLLEGE OF BEAUTY THERAPY
- A Centre of Excellence -
_______________________________________________________
The Cork College of Beauty Therapy was founded by Susan Ryan in 1983, making it the longest
established school in Munster. Susan herself was among the first qualified nail technicians in Ireland
and is recognised as an expert in permanent hair and thread vein removal. Her expertise has been
availed of by TV and magazines. For many years she had her own beauty radio programme in Cork.
Her abilities as an educator and therapist has resulted in The Cork College of Beauty Therapy and The Susan
Ryan Beauty Clinic being confirmed as a Centre of Excellence by the Confederation of International Beauty
Therapy and Cosmetology on the occasion of its 25th anniversary. All staff in both establishments meet
the same high standards in both salon procedures and teaching skills. Students benefit from exposure to a
working salon environment as well as receiving tuition from working professionals.
This workplace environment has resulted in the Cork College of Beauty Therapy having an extremely high
status with employers, meaning that graduates find it easier to get employment on completion of their course.
Many past pupils have gone on to start their own businesses while others have used their skills abroad in places
like the US, Canada, Australia and South Africa. The fast growing cruise line industry is another source of
employment which has been availed of by many graduates of the Cork College of Beauty Therapy.
All Cork College of Beauty Therapy courses contain all the modules required by the international regulating
bodies CIDESCO and CIBTAC. However, bearing in mind the requirements of employers and clients, Susan has
always added further modules in newer treatments and services which may not be included in the formal
curriculum. This makes graduates of the Cork College of Beauty Therapy more employable straight from school,
a fact borne out by the placement record of our students.
This is an aspect of training that Susan feels is lacking in many beauty schools, where girls may qualify in the
basic requirements of the course but then rely on employers to train them in the latest treatments and services,
a prospect not all employers are happy to embrace.
