OCTOBER 2018 FRUITLAND BAPTIST CHURCH Pastor’s Perspective Dear Fruitland Family, This newsletter will be focused more on information and communication among the church body. First, I would like to announce the twelve deacons who have been prayerfully elected to serve this upcoming church year. I am looking forward to serving with these men in many capacities. Below, you will find a list of your deacons (* - newly elected deacons): AJ Ball*, Ryan Casto*, Matt Dalton*, Steve Floyd, Bob Gilbert, Ron Griffin (Vice Chair), Mark Howard*, David Jones, Dave Mains, Mike Pressley, Don Rhodes, and Kyle Smith (Chair) Second, I would like for our seniors to consider meeting us on October 3rd at 12:00 PM for lunch at Bay Breeze Restaurant. It is my fear that since I am a younger pastor that people would have the misconception that my focus is solely on children, students, and young families. While I do have a passion for all three, that does not take away my love and passion for the older generation. Please join us for lunch and allow the staff and me to share this time with you as we share our hearts, grow closer, and laugh together. We are looking forward to meeting with you. We plan to make this a monthly event on the first Wednesday of each month at a different restaurant to be announced later. Third, the staff and I have been in prayer and numerous conversations about the activities on Sunday night. After meeting with many families of all generations recently, it is my understanding that the majority of people who attend Sunday night activities would like a change. So…I would like for Fruitland to know that Sunday nights will be transitioning from a larger group ministry focus to discipleship opportunities in a smaller group setting encouraging people to meet outside the church in community. Occasionally, there will be special church wide events such as worship led by special invited groups/musicians, missionary presentations, and family fun events among other exciting possibilities. Youth and children will still have regularly scheduled activities on Sunday night. We value your support in ministry here at Fruitland as we strive to move forward together. May God Bless You! Pastor’s Perspective Dear Fruitland Family,

OCTOBER 2018 FRUITLAND BAPTIST CHURCH

WMU Red Box Ministry The 2018 NC WMU Red Box Ministry that we participate in has asked that our district give deodorant for these boxes.  These boxes go to ladies who are incarcerated in NC prisons.   Our association's goal is to send 2,000 deodorants and we would like to be able to help in a big way to reach this goal.  Last year, we gave chewing gum for this ministry.   If you would pick up an extra deodorant when you pick one up for yourself to give to someone who is experiencing a difficult time in their life, it would be so nice and greatly appreciated.  You can place your donations in the red boxes located in the Welcome Center and the Admin Foyer.  These gift boxes also have a Christmas greeting for the ladies and a scripture tract.  You can help "share the Gospel to the ends of the earth!"

Ladies’ Bible Study "Living Beyond Yourself - Exploring The Fruit Of The Spirit" by Beth Moore This Bible Study is being led by Jan Jarrett on Thursday nights through December 6th.  All ladies are invited to join us for a light supper at 6:30 PM in the Fellowship Hall followed by Bible Study at 7:00 PM.  Workbooks cost $16.00 each.

Pastor Appreciation Day Sunday, October 14th is Pastor Appreciation Day. Please make sure and give Pastor Craig and Pastor William a big hug and tell them how much you appreciate them!

Journey Camp Registration Early Registration for Journey Camp is due by Sunday, October 14th with $50.00 due.  Our Youth will be going to Journey Camp  June 24th-28th.  The college is going to be renovating dorms so there will be limited space this summer.   Play it safe and register early.

Children's Fun Day Saturday, October 6th at the home of Lowell and Jan Jarrett This is for children in Grades K-5.   If you want to bring your preschooler, please plan on attending with them.  Please sign up in the Admin Foyer if you plan on coming.  We will meet at church at 1:00 PM and take a wagon ride over to the Jarretts' home for games, Bible Study, and supper.   Please plan on picking up students at church at 5:00 PM.

Save the Date - Baptist Women's World Day of Prayer Monday, November 5th We will be helping First Baptist Hendersonville co-host this event for the CBA.  Please plan on joining us at First Baptist's Crosswalk.  The doors will open at 9:30 AM and refreshments will be served.  The program will start at 10:00 AM.  As we unite with our Baptist sisters across the world, we are committing to uphold and support one another in prayer, for we know that great and mighty things come into being because of it.  We belong together, and this is one way we can stay together in solidarity.

Children In Action Will go to the rest home on Wednesday, October 3rd at 6:00 PM.  Please bring money to eat at Chick-Fil-A after we sing.   Our October Bible verse is "She went away and did what Elijah had told her to do.  So Elijah had food every day.  There was also food for the woman and her family." 1 Kings 17:15 Students will discover how God's provision strengthened the faith of Elijah and a widow.   Children will have an opportunity to encourage others whose faith is weak.   We will learn how mission trips led Cameron Armstrong to full-time mission work in Romania, and we will consider how we can plan to join our church on our 2019 summer mission trip.

NHHS Homecoming Spirit Breakfast On Friday, October 5th we will be hosting a Homecoming Spirit Breakfast for the students at North Henderson High School before school.  We want the Knights to know that the Fruitland Family loves and supports them.  Please continue to pray for our students and staff at all of our schools. CBA 141st Semi-Annual Meeting - Fall Session Tuesday, October 16th at Fruitland Baptist Church 4:00-6:00 PM - A time of business and ministry updates 6:00-7:00 PM - Dinner will be served 7:00-9:00 PM - A time of worship together  Since we are the host church, Pastor Craig would like to encourage every regular attender to be at the worship session at 7:00 PM.

Fall Youth Fun Event Our Youth (Grades 6-12) will have an outing at Champion Mini-Golf (485 Brookside Camp Road) on Sunday, October 21st from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.  There will be mini-golf, corn hole, ping pong, and s'mores.  This is an outreach event to invite all Youth in the Fruitland community.  We need all Youth to invite your friends.  Please meet at church to ride the church van at 5:30 PM or meet us at Champion Mini-Golf at 6:00 PM.

Fall Carnival & Trunk or Treat Wednesday, October 31st from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM The whole family is invited to join us for fall fun!  We will begin the festivities by meeting in the Sanctuary for a Puppet Show.  After that we will have Trunk or Treat, hay rides, food, games, and more downstairs.

This is a wonderful time to invite your friends, family, neighbors, and co-workers to join us.  We need people willing to work together for trunks so that families can enjoy the fun together (rotating every 30 minutes).  We need the same for games inside.   If you want to help in any way, please see Candi Mains.   We really need lots of men and women to step up and share the love of Jesus during this event!   Would your Sunday School class be willing to do a trunk?  We would like to have 15 to 20 trunks.  Please sign up in the Admin Foyer with your trunk's theme.  Event ends at 7:30 PM.  (Please no scary costumes or masks!)  There are Trunk or Treat drop-off bins in the Welcome Center and the Admin Foyer.  Please donate individually wrapped candy to help with the mass volume of candy that will be needed for this event.

OCTOBER/NOVEMBER 2018 FRUITLAND BAPTIST YOUTH

FALL YOUTHThere are lots of exciting things going on this fall with our Fruitland Youth.

‣ Sunday evenings we are in the midst of a great series called Not a Fan. In November we are starting a series called Thank Full. This series will help students be content with what really matters - the intangibles. They'll learn how to be FULL OF THANKS and appreciate God's grace, forgiveness, spiritual gifts & faithfulness.

‣ Wednesday evenings:

‣ Middle School Youth are using the Youth On Missions Curriculum. This curriculum correlates with the CIA and Mission Friends curriculum and they all will focus on the same Bible stories, missionaries and countries. In October we will focus on how Baptist Global Response (World Hunger) missionaries are helping teach new farming methods to give the people in Romania freedom and dignity as they learn to meet their own basic need for food. In November Middle Schoolers will learn about missionaries who are helping meet the needs of refugees who live in Clarksville, Georgia.

‣ High School Ladies are engaged in a Bible Study led by Rebekah Barker called Seamless. Joe Shook is leading the High School Gentlemen in a Bible Study called Unfolded. Starting in November the girls will start a new study called Dream Big and the guys study is titled BOLD. Both of these studies are through Right Now Media.

Invite your Friends and let’s make this a true outreach event! This is in place of a Fall 5th Quarter. We are looking at doing a few 5th Quarters during basketball season!
