The Continuous Improvement Classroom

Using Data Folders to Guide Improvement

LEARNING GOAL

Participants will understand how to implement the use

of data folders with students.

What are student data folders?

How do we use student data folders?

How will data folders help students?

A Data Folder is…a “tool” used by students to track their

learning progress

A Data Folder…incorporates goal setting and data

collection

A Data Folder is…a tool to enhance student-led

conferences

Before data folders I could care less what my grades were but when we started using these it became a competition with myself. So now I care if I do better or worse.

• Student

Data folders are used for…

setting personal/academic goals

monitoring progress

modifying classroom instructional

Planning For Data Folders!

• Things to consider:–Where will they be kept?–How will they be organized?–What will you put in them?–What data will you

have students track?

Planning For Data Folders!

• As a table, brainstorm ideas about data folders:–What will you house them in?–How will they be organized?–What will you put in them?–What data points will you

have students collect?

Explore Data Folders• Take a few minutes to explore the

examples of student data folders• Think-Pair-Share • Whole Group Discussion

Classroom Data Folders

• What are classroom data folders?

• How will you use a classroom data folder?

• How will a classroom data folder help you?
