Journeys with Jean…
The great gift of Easter is hope - Christian hope
which makes us have that confidence in God, in
God’s ultimate triumph, and in God’s goodness
and love, which nothing can shake. (Basil Hume)
We are on the road, traveling together, toward the central reality of our Christian faith. Our journey is one of love and disillusionment, of doubt and hope, of fear and confidence—and ultimately a journey of life and death….and life again.
As we travel through Holy Week together, may we re-discover the depth of compassion and sacrifice that Jesus was willing bear for our sakes and for the sake of the whole world.
Christ was willing to give his life so that we might understand God’s gift of new and renewed life, offered to us each and every day.
I’m grateful for the reminder that Life and Goodness and Hope win out over the death and evil and des-pair in our world. Easter is not just another holiday. Easter is the center, the core, the foundation, and the celebration of all that we believe. Let’s live as Easter People! Alleluia will be our Song!
Yours in Christ’s Love,
Pastor Jean

Pat’s Ponderings
Over the past number of months many of you have met my faithful companion, Ranger, in the of-fice. He has grown to be a wonderful dog. He is doing well in obedience training; he's up to 80+ pounds and is beautiful.
Due to a variety of circumstances, Ranger has moved to a new home in Heber, and now lives just a block from his little sister! He is very happy, as is his new family. We have been missing him, but things are now calmer at our house.
Strange isn’t it? Often we work so hard at doing the right things, but we find our efforts are only
temporary. Though we all experience loss and grief in our lives, reflecting on the joy and lessons
learned leaves us in a space where we can mend and grow. May we all grow during this season
and blossom into our next season of life.
God bless,
Pastor Pat
Left: Pastor Pat and
Ranger
Right: Ranger & "little
sister" Ember!
It’s time for our Annual Blessing of the Animals on Saturday, May 3rd from 10:00am until Noon. We’ll be at the Sherman Park Pavilion (across from the street from the church on 33rd South). Both Pastors Jean and Pat will be there to give your furry, feath-ered, wiggly, squiggly, or scaled companions a blessing. If you can’t bring your pet, a photo is fine (those horses, goats and cows can be hard to transport)! We’ll have water and treats for the animals and their humans. Donations will be collected for
Heifer International and a local pet rescue organization.
If you have any questions, please call Judy Hagler at
801-930-5931.
The Wesley Bell Ringer Rummage Sale will be May 9th and 10th.
If you have large items that you would like to donate, please contact Dave Allison to schedule your pick up (801-865-6014, [email protected]) by April 30th to ensure that items can be picked up in time for the sale. All other items can be put in the donation closet behind the gym.
Thanks for your support!
Invite your friends and neighbors to Christ Church with ease! The Public Relations com-mittee has put together door hangers for you to distribute that have information about Running for Relief, the Boy Scout Buffalo BBQ and well as all of our Holy Week activities and worship services. Weird Animals Vacation Bible School – June 9th – 13th, 2014
Join us early this summer for a great week of fun and learning at Weird Animals VBS – Where Jesus’ Love is One of a Kind. Weird Animals is a habitat filled with incredible Bible-learning experiences kids see, hear, touch, and even taste! Sci-ency-Fun Gizmos™, team-building games, cool Bible songs, and tasty treats are just a few of the standout activities that help faith flow into real life. Plus, we’ll help kids discover how to see evidence of God in everyday life—something we call God Sightings. Get ready to hear that phrase a lot! Your kids will also par-
ticipate in a hands-on mission project, through a program called Operation Kid-to-Kid™, that will let the kids in our community show God’s love by providing water for school children in India. VBS will be held Monday – Friday (June 9th – 13th) from 9 am to noon each day. Ages 3 years (potty-trained, please) through 6th grade (Fall 2014) are welcome. The cost is $10/child. Registration begins April 15th! Visit our website and register on-line or stop
by the church office.

Page 5 Adult Education Opportunities
Come join any of these groups:
Sunday Mornings:
Life & Times –Room 101 @ 9:00 am. Lively discussions and lectures about powerful contemporary issues.
Current Study: “Comparative Religion” offers you an opportunity to gain a solid grasp of the key ideas of religion itself—the issues that repeatedly surface when you look at any faith's beliefs, practices, and
organization. Using five major religions—Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, and Hinduism—as illus-trations of how religions can address the same core issues in parallel and different ways, award-winning
Professor Charles Kimball of the University of Oklahoma leads you on an exploration of religion's complex
and multidimensional nature.
Wesleyan Group –All are welcome in the Parlor @ 9:00 a.m. Current study:"When Jesus Came to Har-
vard-- Making Moral Choices Today". The author, Harvey Cox, is professor of theology at Harvard
Divinity School. Over the 15 years that Cox taught his Harvard undergraduate class, "Jesus and the Mor-al Life" the course grew so popular that the lectures had to be taught in a theatre usually reserved for
rock concerts. The overwhelming response was a clear signal of the hunger for guidance in today's con-fusing world, where moral guidelines seem to shift daily. How can we ask "What would Jesus do?" when
Jesus never had to cope with an unintended pregnancy, or confront a teenager about drug use, or de-
cide whether to put an ailing parent in a retirement home? Cox brings the moral wisdom of Rabbi Jesus into the 21st century by way of the questions and argu-
ments and doubts of centuries of rabbinic and Christian theology as well as the voices of thousands of Harvard students who attended his course over the years. Cox shows how we can extrapolate from Je-
sus parables and bridge the gap between the ancient and modern worlds.
Bible Exploration –Room 207 @ 10:30 am. “24 Hours That Changed the World” – No single event in human history has received more attention than the suffering and crucifixion of Jesus of Nazareth. In
this Lenten journey, Adam Hamilton guides us through the last twenty-four hours of Jesus' life. Each chapter is designed to help the reader experience and understand the significance of Jesus' suffering and
death in a way you have never done before. Whether readers are long-time Christians or simply curious
about the story of Christ's crucifixion, they are invited to join the author in retracing the last 24 hours of Jesus' life.
Other Opportunities:
Bagel Boys – Wednesday mornings in the Parlor @ 7:30 am. Current study The 50 Commands of Christ.
Wednesday Morning Group – Parlor @ 9:30 am. Current study: “24 Hours That Changed the World”.
Spirits & Spirituality – A monthly Sunday evening gathering for men with varied topics and good fun.
Yoga – For all. Helps reduce stress and ease your spirit. Thursdays in Room 101 @ 4:30 pm.
