The compound names of Jehovah are always linked with some need of man, and it is here that Jehovah will be all that His people ever need Him to be (I and it is here that Jehovah will be all that His people ever need Him to be (I am that I am)

We shall be looking in more details some of these compound names

Our soul waits for the Lord; He is our help and our shield (Ps 33:20 NKJV)

Our soul hath waited for Jehovah our Our soul hath waited for Jehovah our Help (Jehovah 'Ezer) and our shield is He. (YLT)

The Hebrew word for helper is ezer and refers to divine help especially in times of despair or distress

Moses named his son Eliezer - “The God of my father was my help, and delivered me from the sword of Pharaoh” (Exodus 18:4)from the sword of Pharaoh” (Exodus 18:4)

 Eliezer

El = God or Eli (my God) + 'ezer= help)

"God is help", "my God is help”

“Delivered...from the sword of Pharaoh” is referring to after Moses had killed an Egyptian and when Pharaoh heard of this matter, he was wrath and sought to kill Moses (Exodus2:11-15)

The name Eliezer is a testimony reflecting Moses’ personal experiences with God His Moses’ personal experiences with God His Helper. Every time Moses called out His name, he would be saying “God is my Helper”

If we would think back over our life, we will discovered that there were some "Eliezer" events in our life?

How did you respond to God's help? Maybe you did not even recognize it then but in retrospect you do see His Helping hand

Deuteronomy 33:26-27 “There is no one like the God of Jeshurun, Who rides the heavens to help you, And in His excellency on the clouds. The eternal God is your refuge, And underneath are the everlasting arms; He will underneath are the everlasting arms; He will thrust out the enemy from before you, And will say, ‘Destroy!’

This scripture shows that “the Lord is above, around, and underneath” His saints

Jehovah Himself "riding the heavens" upon hearing the cry of His beloved to give them divine help ("Jehovah Ezer!")

Those who travel on the earth may be stopped or be hindered by the marauding enemies

But the LORD who comes riding on the heavens, he cannot be stopped, heavens, he cannot be stopped, hindered nor even delayed, because He made the heaven, the sky, the wind and all other elements and they are subject to Him

No place is unreachable to God

“The LORD has his way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet” (Nahum 1:3b).

“ Thy way, O God, is in the sea. ” (Ps 77:19)

If we will but trust in God, invisible spirits shall fight for us, the great wheels of providence shall revolve for our good, and God the Eternal himself, dressed in robes of war like a valiant champion, shall come forth to espouse our quarrel – C H Spurgeon

 Other illustrative scriptures

Psalms 28:7 “The LORD is my strength and my shield; My heart trusts in Him, and I am helped; Therefore my heart exults, And with my song I shall thank Him.”

To sanctify means to set apart from secular & from sin unto the sacred – To make holy

To set aside and make suitable - The people of God are set aside for God and made suitable for God’s purpose

So Jehovah Mekaddishkem is THE LORD Who

 - sets apart

 - separates from the profane - separates from the profane

 - makes holy

When Israel was redeemed as a Nation, what was God's desire for them?

“You shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation” (Exodus 19:6)

“And you shall be holy to Me, for I the Lord am holy, and have separated you from the peoples, that you should be Mine” (Lev 20:26)peoples, that you should be Mine” (Lev 20:26)

A separated, set apart nation, dedicated & consecrated to God

 God Sanctifies Israel for Service

As New testament Christians, God also calls us, separated us from the world for sacred services

“But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light” - 1 Peter 2:9

“Jehovah Mekadishkem (The Lord our “Jehovah Mekadishkem (The Lord our Sanctifier) Portrays the Lord as the one who sets believers apart to walk in holiness for His purposes. Without holiness no man will see the Lord (Hebrews 12:14)

1. Through our redemption by the blood of Christ

 - Hebrews 10:10 - By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all of Jesus Christ once for all

 - Hebrews 13:12 – “Therefore Jesus also, that He might sanctify the people with His own blood, suffered outside the gate”

Colossians 1:19-22 “For it pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should dwell, and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross. And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight”

2. Through God’s Word

 - John 17:17 – “Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth”

 - Ephesians 5:25-27 – “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, that He might and gave Himself for her, that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish

3. Through God’s commandments

 - 1 Thessalonians 4:3-7 “It is God’s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; that each of you should learn to control your own body in a way that is holy and honorable, not in passionate lust like the pagans, who do not know God; and that in this matter no do not know God; and that in this matter no one should wrong or take advantage of a brother or sister; The Lord will punish all those who commit such sins, as we told you and warned you before. For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life.” (NIV)

 Through God’s precious & magnificent promises (2 Pet 1:2-4)

“Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.” (NKJV)

God set us apart for Himself, He expects us to set Him apart for ourselves (He want us to get Him for ourselves; this can only be achieved by been pleasing unto God. Holiness and purity are in focus here – Without holiness no man can see God (Hebrew 12:14).

You shall not profane My holy name, but I will You shall not profane My holy name, but I will be sanctified among the sons of Israel; I am the LORD who sanctifies you (Leviticus 22:32)

As redeemed of the Lord we also have a duty to sanctify the Lord in our lives

Genesis 22:14 “And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovah Jireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the LORD it shall be seen”

It is the first compound name that It is the first compound name that God revealed to man in the Old Testament. This is the name given by Abraham to the place where he had sacrificed a ram provided by God, instead of his son Isaac (Gen 22:14).

The Hebrew word “Jireh” when translated into English means "Provide"

The English word "provide" is from the Latin root; “Pro” and “video or videre”

Pro means “before” and video or videre means “vision” or “to see” – Therefore the verb “Provide” literally means to “see beforehand” “Provide” literally means to “see beforehand” or to see in advance. God sees our need before it arises and makes provision for it.

Jehovah Jireh is the Lord who had seen ahead and made provision

When Abraham was journeying towards Moriah the Bible says “Then on the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes, and saw the place afar off” (Gen 22:4)

Abraham was not looking at what he could see with his natural vision; rather he was entering a “visionary” faith realm. He was entering a “visionary” faith realm. He was catching a vision of what God want him to see – (Faith vision - Hebrews 11:17-19)

Abraham was looking at the promises of God and considering his circumstances in the light of those promises (Gen 3:14-18)

In verse 13; “And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns: and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son”

Abraham lifted up his eyes again, and this time God let him see a spiritual provision for the natural realm – that is, a physical thing that was provided through spiritual means.

Our heavenly Father (El-Roi) sees our need, and with divine foresight of love prepares the supply. He sees to a need to supply it; and in the seeing He is seen, in the providing he manifests himself.

Abraham did not sacrifice his only son, although he proved his willingness to do although he proved his willingness to do whatever God told him to do. God prepared ahead a ram for him

It is Abraham’s willingness to obey and trust God’s commands that provoked the manifestation of God’s supernatural provision

Some scripture illustrations of “Jehovah Jireh”

 Matthew 6:25-34

 Philippians 4:19

 Psalm 37:4

 Psalm 37:25

 Ephesians 1:3 Ephesians 1:3

“Jehovah Jireh” is a name that assures us that our Heavenly Father is able to provide any need we have. God's infinite provision is always greater than our finite problem

“For thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God:” – Exodus 34:14

The Hebrew word Qanna means Jealous or The Hebrew word Qanna means Jealous or zealous - The fundamental meaning relates to a marriage relationship. God, in this text, is depicting Himself as Israel’s husband – (Isa 54:5; Jer 31:32; Ho 2:19). God was in covenant realationship with Israel. Israel must not go “whoring” after other gods

No man with any moral fiber wants to share his wife with another man, and neither does God. He expects exclusive devotion from her

When the term jealous is used to describe Jehovah as the God who is zealous to protect what belongs to Him. The worship of other gods always arouses His jealousy and anger gods always arouses His jealousy and anger in judgment.

Anything that is in the place of God in our lives is an idol and must therefore be destroyed because His name is Jehovah Qanna!

Looking again at the expression “for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God:”

God says that not only is His Name Qanna but His very nature itself is Qanna

Jealousy is an essential attribute of the Lord

We are owned by God, He paid a high price to purchase us and He demands total devotion and dedication from us. He desires to be at the top of your priority list, and rightfully so. Because of His love for His people He jealously acted to maintain their fidelity.

God is not jealous OF you, but He is jealous FOR you!

God is jealous for you because He want the best for you and He knows whoring after other gods will deny you the full benefits of His benevolence

No one or nothing else can take care of, satisfy, or give meaning to life the way that God can!

Another meaning for Qanna is “zealous” -God is zealous for you, He is on fire for you, and He is passionate in His love and concern for you

Take a look at the suffering and death of our Lord Jesus on the cross. That is why Jesus death and suffering is called the “passion of death and suffering is called the “passion of Christ!” Because it reveals without a shadow of doubt how passionately God loves you and me!

Other scriptures of the name Qanna: Exd 20:5; Exd 34:14; Deu 4:24; Deu 5:9; Deu 6:15

This is the first compound name the Lord revealed to Israel after they came out of Egypt

Exodus 15:22-26 “So Moses brought Israel from the Red sea,---- 26 And said, If thou wilt from the Red sea,---- 26 And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee

The Hebrew word Rapha (Rophe or Ropheka) means “to restore," "to heal," "to cure," or "to make healthful" as a physician, not only in the physical sense but in the moral and spiritual sense also”

Jehovah Rapha is the Lord who restore, heals, Jehovah Rapha is the Lord who restore, heals, cure or make healthful.

Jehovah is the Great Physician who heals the physical, spiritual and emotional needs of His people.

 Physical Healing – Psalms 103:2-4; Isaiah 30:26; Jeremiah 30:17

 Spiritual Healing – Psalms 103:2-4; Jeremiah 3:223:22

 Emotional Healing – Isaiah 61:1

JESUS CHRIST IS OUR JEHOVAH RAPHA

The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound opening of the prison to them that are bound - Isaiah 61:1

And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people - Matthew 4:23

Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed - Isaiah 53:4-5; 1 Peter 2:24

When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick: That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses - Matthew 8:16-17
