Jane has been a BBC journalist for more than 20 years. She now presents the BBC News at One, Six and Ten, and has a regular afternoon programme on the rolling news channel.She has covered many big stories for TV news, including several British general elections; the last two US Presidential elections; Scotland's independence referendum; Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans; the London 2012 Olympics; the Glasgow Commonwealth Games; the aftermath of the September 11th attacks on the US; and the disappearance of Madeleine McCann in Portugal.
She is passionate about the arts, particularly theatre, and fronts news coverage of the annual BAFTA film awards. Jane is proud to support Parkinson's UK. Both her father and uncle lived with the disease for many years, and she is particularly aware of the vital role played by Parkinson's nurses. Her family would like to thank all the staff and volunteers at Parkinson's UK for the hugely important work they do.

Jane Asher became Parkinson’s UK President in February 2007, having been Vice President for the previous three years. She was inspired to help after her brother-in-law, Gordon Scarfe, was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2004.
Jane is a successful actress, author and businesswoman. She has been working professionally in film, theatre and radio since she was five years old, and was most recently seen on stage as Miss Havisham in ‘Great Expectations’ at the West Yorkshire Playhouse. She is currently working on the feature film ‘Used Books’ and next year will be appearing in the musical ‘An American in Paris’ at the Dominium Theatre, London. Jane has written more than a dozen books, including three best-selling novels.
Her other voluntary sector roles include President of the National Autistic Society, President of Arthritis Care, Vice President of Autistica and Ambassador for The Prince’s Trust. Jane has received two honorary doctorates for her work on autism, and is Patron of many other voluntary organisations, including Research Autism, Leonard Cheshire Disability and Bowel Cancer UK.
