1. Always place your rug on some Rug-Pad. RugPad helps to stop your rug from moving on your carpet or hard-floor. It also helps to cushion the rug from wear and tear from foot traffic.

2. Never place potted plants onto your rug. No matter how careful you are at watering your plants, moisture will make its way to the rug. This moisture will cause damp, mould and rot. This damage will require re-weaving and complete restoration.

3. Don’t run over the fringes with a vacuum cleaner. The fringes of the rug are called the warp thread and they are part of the structure of the rug. If these are damaged the fringes will come off and start to damage the main body of the rug. Always vacuum sideways to the fringes. So you are going from left to right and not over the fringe.

4. Please don’t use any old cleaning products, especially those containing bleaches or shampoo in them. These products can seriously damage the wool in your rug, causing permanent damage.

5. Rotate your rug 180 degrees every 6 months or so, this will limit the wear you will get on the rug and also will stop damage from sunlight affecting one area.

6. Vacuum rugs weekly. Rugs collect dry soil which can be extremely damaging to the wool fibres.

7. Having rugs protected will help prevent accidental spillages becoming perma-nent stains.

8. Have your rugs cleaned by a profes-sional rug cleaner every 1-2 years. Avoid using a cleaner who says they can clean your rug properly in your home. This simply cannot be done.

Captain Rug Wash’s Top Tips for maintaining a beautifully clean rug.

Captain Rug Wash’s Top Tips for maintaining a beautifully clean rug.

Thank you for taking an interest in wanting to learn some tips on how to keep your rug looking beautiful all year around. Listed below are 8 of Captain Rug Wash’s top tips on how to do just that. Follow these great tips and your rug will stay looking beautiful for many years to come.

Sam Charitos-Evans

I quickly realised that I had

found my passion. Rugs!

To be continued…

Captain Rug Wash was first spotted flying over the windy roads of Dartmoor. Although new evidence has come to light over the years that he has been spotted as far west as Penzance and as far east as Bristol. Spotted in the early part of 2009, locals could not understand why he wondered around looking so sad and lost. A couple of brave locals approached him and asked him if he was okay.

The only quick reply that came from Captain Rug Wash was that of sadness and fear. The fear was for the future of rugs belonging to local people.

Captain Rug Wash was saddened by fine rugs of the Westcountry being poorly cleaned by uneducated, uncaring rug cleaners who were ruining rugs on a daily basis.

Captain Rug Wash told the local men that he had been sent from his homeland, a distant and magical place, a land full of beautiful

rugs. A land where all the inhabitants were growing increasingly worried about the poor conditions and truly awful way rugs were being cleaned.

He was sent out by his elders to find a rug cleaner who was cleaning rugs properly, professionally, passionately and thoroughly.

His mission was to find this educated rug cleaner, he was not permitted to

return until he had found such a person to work alongside them spreading the good news of the services the company provided. He was searching the length…

HEAR ARE THE FACTSHERE ARE THE FACTSAbout Why You Should Call Plymouth Rug Cleaning

Immediately:

Sand is scratching your Rug!

Each day I pull pounds and pounds of sandy soil out of the base of rugs. It’s in yours too!

Spread the yarns apart and look deep. It’s grinding your expensive yarns into worthless fibres that fill up your vacuum bag. Every moment you wait, your rug wears out faster!

Is the air starting to smell stale?

Pollutants in the air are filtered through your rug/carpet. The rug/carpet traps them so you don’t have to breathe them over and over. What happens when that trap gets full? Your family starts breathing dust mites, debris, dander, pollens, pollutants, fungus and mould spores, bacteria, chemicals, scores of known (and unknown) carcinogens, and a long list of other really gross stuff. Once your rug/carpet’s natural filtering ability gets full, it’s time for a thorough cleaning for your health’s sake.

How do the fibres feel?

Oily residues from the street and air are drying to your rug.

Slightly sticky they grab dirt and lock it on. As above all this dirt and oil is wearing out your rug.

Clean before wear shows up!

Clean and breathe easier!

The facts are, clean every 6 to 12 months, before dirt begins to appear. Your rugs will last longer,

look better, and protect your health. You will breathe easier.

1. Inspection/Collection We will inspect and collect your rugs from your home

2. Further Inspection Once we have your rugs at our rug cleaning facility we will inspect it for any damage. I.e. Dye bleed, fringe damage etc.

3. The Rugbadger Our RugBadger gently vibrates out all the dry soil particles that are buried deep in the pile of the rug.

4. Dye Migration testing We test all the dyes to see

if they are stable.

5. Stain Treatment All the stains are treated with our cleaning solution

6. Cleaning The rug is then cleaned with the best method that we have chosen. Not all rugs can handle a large amount of water on them.

7. Fringe Cleaning We then clean the fringes; a lot of rug cleaners use damaging bleaches to clean the rugs. We do not!

8. Drying We then dry the rugs using air movers, fans and dehumidifiers. These help the rug to dry quickly reducing the risk of shrinkage, bleeding or browning.

9. Grooming After the cleaning process we will groom the rug. This is the same principle as combing your hair.

10. Delivery!

…and breadth of the Westcountry for many years, unsuccessful in his search, he was starting to give up on his mission. But just as he was thinking his sadness could not get any worse upon hearing more and more stories of people’s rugs being shrunk and ruined by uneducated cleaners, he was starting to over hear people talking… about a rug cleaning company that was doing amazing work cleaning people’s rugs. So off he flew optimistic of what he would find.

Andi Hill, founder of Plymouth Rug Cleaning opened up the door to his rug cleaning headquarters one bright, sunny Monday morning almost tripping over this friendly looking fellow in an amazing Superhero suit, the fabric a quality Andi had never seen. A magical and enlightened glow seemed to radiate from him. Captain Rug Wash soon began to tell Andi about the magical land from which he came a land that was full of beautiful hand knotted rugs. Captain Rug Wash also told Andi about his mission, Andi was not overly surprised at the stories of poor cleaning conditions and techniques that rugs were being put through, that Captain Rug Wash had witnessed.

Upon seeing the great work that Plymouth Rug Cleaning were doing Captain Rug Wash was soon seen flying around the Westcountry telling anyone who would listen and anyone who wanted their rugs cleaned about a company he was going to send them too. Where their rugs would be given the most amazing Spa treatment clean it had ever had. If you listen very carefully and look up in the sky you will see Captain Rug Wash flying overhead helping people who have filthy rugs and no idea who they can trust to clean them.

So if you ever see Captain Rug Wash make sure you follow him to Plymouth Rug Cleaning, where your rug will be treated to the most professional clean it has ever had.

MEANWHILE… TESTIMONIALS

Andi Hill was the only person I trusted to clean my

heirloom Navajo rugs. After bringing them over to Plymouth

from the U.S, I knew they needed a good clean if I wanted

to protect and maintain them for another generation.

Andi explained to me the research he had done and would

continue to do to understand the dyes that had been used,

and how that would affect this cleaning process. Before

he even started, he explained the actual process he would

use to carefully clean the rugs in a step wise fashion,

using the gentlest processes possible. He also has an

extensive online cohort of trusted professionals like

himself that he can call on for advice and expertise. I

am extremely impressed with his level of professionalism

in his craft, and the level of care he has extended to my

unusual rugs. The whole organisation is very professional

and personal both, something that I found very comforting

and appreciated. I can’t speak highly enough of Andi, Phil and Sandra. SABRINA SIMPSON

So how did it all begin? Well I started working for my parent’s carpet cleaning company after I left

school in 2001. The family business being Executive Cleaning Services (SW) Ltd, www.ecs-sw.co.uk.

The family business was started by my parents in 1988 cleaning carpets, upholstery, natural stone flooring and rugs. Well when I say rugs we probably cleaned about 2 rugs a year up until the birth of Captain Rug Wash and www.

plymouthrugcleaning.co.uk in 2007.

It all started when I went to a trade show, entered a competition and won the main prize, a rug cleaning machine called a RugBadger. So I did some research and the inventor of the machine got in touch with me and we had a long chat about rug cleaning and rugs in general. I quickly realised that I had found my passion. Rugs. Everything about rugs got me hooked from weaving to dyeing to cleaning

to collecting.

Having talked to Dusty from RugBadger over in Canada I soon realised this is the way I wanted to steer my family business. So I created the website

www.plymouthrugcleaning.co.uk .

I found out through research that not many people in my area Plymouth, Devon were involved in cleaning rugs the proper way. So I became the first Master

Rug Cleaner in the South West, after that I became only one of a few trained Woolsafe Approved Fibre Care Specialist. Along with being members of other

organisations such as the trading standards Buy With Confidence Scheme. Members of the National Carpet Cleaners Association (NCCA) members of The

Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC).

I now needed a website so I spent a lot of time looking at other carpet/rug cleaners websites worldwide and I realised that 90% of them looked identical.

Name, phone number, email, what we do. Nothing stood out. I soon realised that if I was going to make this work I needed to make myself stand out. So Captain

Rug Wash and Plymouth Rug Cleaning were born.

Plymouth Rug Cleaning was very pleased to announce that Captain Rug Wash became the first Master Rug Cleaner in the South West of England in 2010.

The Master Rug Cleaner program is a yearlong study into oriental rugs. The course covers everything from cleaning, pre-inspection, rug repair, rug- identification, the history of rugs and much more.

The first part of the course was held down in Cornwall in 2009 and the final part of the exam was held in London in 2010.

As well as obtaining a Master Rug Cleaner Certification, Captain Rug Wash has obtained his rug cleaning Certification with the IICRC and his certification as a Woolsafe Fibre Care Specialist.

Captain Rug Wash is not a cheap and cheerful rug cleaner! He has spent thousands of pounds on education and training so that he can clean and care for your rug the best he can. Captain Rug Wash always carries out an inspection on your rug to find out everything possible about it before cleaning is started.

Here at Plymouth Rug Cleaning we carry out rug cleaning to the highest quality in our rug cleaning facility, and all work carried out is done so by a qualified rug cleaner. We will give your rug the best deep clean while at all times treating you and your rug with

1. Do they answer the phone in a professional manner? Do they return your phone call, the same day, if you left a voice mail? Answering the phone is the first point of contact you will have with a rug cleaning company. Do they answer all the questions that you have and do they advise you and explain things to you in a friendly, professional and respectful manner?

2. What experience do they have? How long have they been in the rug cleaning industry and who are they trusted by? Have they got experience with machine- made and fine hand-knotted rugs? There are a lot of cleaners out there who do not know how to clean silk rugs.

3. Testimonials are a great thing to ask for, if a company is like us, they will have folders full of testimonials from clients.

4. Ask who they are certified with and with whom they take their exams with. Here are some organisations carpet and rug cleaners will be with. IICRC, MRC, NCCA or TACCA.

5. Do they offer a free rug inspection? During this inspection they should explain to you all their qualifications. They should also explain what to expect when they clean your rug for you. They will explain the procedures, what stains will come out and which ones won’t. They will also run through a maintenance plan with you, if that’s what you want.

6. Their pricing should be honest. The price they give you on your copy of the inspection is what you will pay on completion of the job. Beware of rug cleaning companies that use ‘bait and switch’. This is when they quote you one price and on the day of cleaning it’s jumped up to another price, because they have “had” to include extras that you did not want. Here at Plymouth Rug Cleaning we offer a 100% money back guarantee. This simply means, if you are not happy with the job, we do it again for free. Then if you are still not satisfied we refund you all your money back.

7. Be aware of a company that say they can clean your rug in your home. To do a thorough rug cleaning job, this is simply not possible. All rugs we clean are taken back to our rug cleaning studio.

8. Here at Plymouth Rug Cleaning we are with the Buy With Confidence scheme which is part of Trading Standards and Plymouth City Council. This ensures that people are using tradesmen who are honest, trustworthy and reliable.

9. What cleaning solutions does the rug cleaning company use? Are they harmful chemicals or are they safe ECO friendly products. Will the rug cleaner be using a lot of soaps and shampoos, which leaves residues in the rug and re-soils quicker? We don’t.

10. And lastly how do they present themselves? Are they smartly uniformed? Polite, informative? What’s their van like? Clean and tidy, inside and out?

These are just a few things I wanted to bring to your attention when choosing a rug cleaning company. You may have even more to ask your rug cleaner. If they are honest and professional they will only be too pleased to be asked these questions. Don’t be afraid to ask, before they do work for you.10 11

HOW TO CHOOSE A RUG CLEANER.HOW TO CHOOSE A RUG CLEANER!It can be a very difficult decision when it comes to choosing a rug cleaner. Do you flick through the yellow pages? Spend hours trawling through the internet, spend just as many hours on Facebook? Or do you listen to friends and family who recommend a professional rug cleaning company to you.

Whatever way you go about booking a rug cleaner, make sure to read the information below. This is just a bit of advice from myself, Captain Rug Wash of Plymouth Rug Cleaning.

Whether you choose to use our company or not, please take the following advice before letting anyone into your home.

1. YOU WILL GET MORE THEN WHAT YOU EXPECT! Not all spots can be removed from the rug, just like not all stains come out of your clothes. Some cleaners exaggerate when they say they can remove every single stain, the truth is: we are cleaning properly to industry approval specifica-tions. And the cleaning is completed by trained, competent professionals able to remove anything that can be removed.

2. EXACT APPOINTMENT TIMES.

None of this “I will be there between noon and five PM “We will give you an appointment time you can set your watch by. And if we are ever late we will call ahead and let you know.

3. PROMPT RESPONSE.

I can usually take the rug away with me the same day. We have a return period of 2-3 weeks. This depends on how many rugs we have in at the time.

4. WE ANSWER THE PHONE LIVE.

Between 9AM and 5PM Monday to Friday we will speak to you, personally answering your call. Sometimes we may be unable to take your call, but we will return your call the same day. After hours and on the weekends you can leave a message.

5. YOUR RUG WILL NEVER LOOK DIRTY AGAIN!

With our maintenance plan your rug will be clean all year round, ask us about protecting your rug.

6. HONEST PRICING

No sales gimmicks, no hidden costs. Just the truth.

7. EXPERIENCED CLEANERS THROUGH EDUCATION AND TRAINING.

Our business is now in its 27th year. Because of our education and experience, we can look at most spots and stains and tell you what you can expect the rug to look like when we are finished.

8. I DON’T CUT CORNERS, I CLEAN THEM!

We take all the time needed to clean every square inch thoroughly. If you have had companies clean your rugs in your home and rush in and out in 15 minutes, they are doing it wrong! You will be surprised to find out how long it takes to do the job properly.

9. FAST DRYING

As stated above all rugs are dried quickly to avoid any shrinkage, browning or colour migration.

10. MOST THOROUGH CLEANING EVER OR IT’S FREE.

If you are not satisfied with the cleaned rug, I will re-clean it free of charge. And if you are still not satisfied we will refund your money.

I really do want my clients to be WOWED by the work I have done. So if for any reason you are not 100% over the moon, in love with the work I have done please let me know and I will try my very best to put things right. I operate my business on “word of mouth” and have done so for many years. My clients are always more then happy to refer me to their friends, neighbours and family.
