ProMotion offeringonline care

With the priority on social-distancing at this time in ourcommunity, many people arestill struggling with pain, aninjury, or recovery from asurgery. The Center for Dis-ease Control and Prevention(CDC) is stating that all non-essential health care visitsshould be cancelled and notdone in person. Most pain andinjury conditions would beconsidered “non-essential” bygovernment standards. How-ever, for the person suffering, getting help would be consid-ered essential. That is whyProMotion Physical Therapyon Velp Avenue in Howard isnow offering online help forpain, injury, or post-surgicalrehabilitation.

Bob Brady, the owner andtreating therapist at ProMo-tion, states that online visitshave been shown to be veryeasy and effective for a lot ofconditions. “It is really quitesimple. Through a secure on-line video platform, I am ableto ask people questions, do anexamination, and make rec-ommendations to help themrecover from whatever theyare going through. There is nospecial equipment neededother than an email address, internet connection, andsmart phone, laptop, or desktop computer.”

Conditions such as neckand back pain, shoulder pain, knee and hip pain, post-surgi-cal recovery, as well as manysports-related injuries can betreated through online visits.“What I find with most of mypatients is that they are just“stuck.” They have been deal-ing with pain or an injury fora while, rest it and the paingets better, but when they tryto get back to normal activi-ties, their pain returns. Theydon’t know what they shouldor should not do. Online visitsare a great way to help peopleknow what to do to get overwhatever they are goingthrough.”

Despite the fact that onlinevisits are appropriate formany things, there are someinstances where this may notbe the case. Brady states,“After my questioning andexamination, if I feel that aperson’s problem is not ap-propriate to be managed on-line, I will help the person getthe care they need with an in-person visit to the appropriatemedical provider.”

Not sure if online visits arefor you? You can call ProMo-tion at (920) 857-1623 andtalk to Bob Brady and haveyour questions answered. You can learn more atpromotiongb.com/telehealth.

4 The Community Bulletin April 2020

It’s not easy, but lookpast the market selloff submitted by Ilya Dayter, Ed-ward Jones Financial Advi-sor

These are challengingtimes. Like everyone, you areconcerned about keepingyour family safe and healthy, and you’re doing your part tohelp protect your communityfrom the effects of the coron-avirus. And if you’re an in-vestor, you must also addressyour financial situation. Howshould you respond to thecurrent market volatility andrecent declines in investmentprices?

For one thing, try to avoidwhat many others seem to bedoing: panicking. The marketselloff may feel unsettling, but it appears to be driven asmuch, or more, by fear andpanic than by economic or fi-nancial reality.

Uncertainty is high, butthere are reasons – solid, ob-jective reasons – that providemore confidence in thelonger-term outlook, suggest-ing that conditions still war-rant an eventual rebound.U.S. unemployment enteredthis situation near a 50-yearlow, with solid wage growth. We will see a temporary dis-ruption to the labor market, ofcourse, along with a declinein economic activity, buthouseholds entered this pe-riod in generally good shape.Furthermore, housing marketindicators were moving up-ward and the decline in mort-gage rates could add more

strength. Also, the FederalReserve’s recent interest ratecuts, taking short-term ratesback near 0%, will supportthe economic rebound as theimpact of the virus contain-ment efforts eventually fade.

In addition, while furthervolatility and the potential forfurther weakness will likelycontinue, the steep dropswe’ve already seen indicatethat the financial marketshave “priced in” the likeli-hood of a short-term reces-sion, which may mean thatthe worst of the stock marketpain has already been en-dured, though, of course, there are no guarantees.

First, though, it seemslikely that the investmentworld will finally calm downonly when the health situationshows signs of containment –and this will inevitably hap-pen, despite the grim reportswe are seeing these days. As acountry, we have the motiva-tion, the will, the solidarityand the resources to defeatthe coronavirus and its ef-fects, despite the pain andtrauma it is now undoubtedlycausing.

So, back to our originalquestion: What should youdo? Here are a few sugges-tions:

• Remember why you’re in-vesting. Given the marketdecline, you may betempted to change yourinvestment strategy. Butkeep in mind that your fi-nancial goals, such as a

comfortable retirement, are longer-term than theshelf life of the coron-avirus. These goals, nottoday’s headlines, shouldguide your decisions.

• Re-evaluate your risk tol-erance. The recent volatil-ity provides a good test ofyour ability to weathershort-term swings in yourportfolio. If you’re havinga hard time coping withthese losses, your portfo-lio may be positioned tooaggressively for your risktolerance. If so, you mightwant to adjust your port-folio mix to include morefixed-income securities, which can help providemore “downside” protec-tion. However, this wouldalso affect your long-termgrowth potential.

• Look for buying opportu-nities. Stocks are now attheir most compelling val-ues in more than a decade– in other words, there areplenty of compelling in-vestments out there. Youcan find many high-qual-ity investments at verygood prices, so you maywant to consider takingadvantage of the opportu-nity.

These are trying times forall of us. But as an investor, you’ll help yourself greatly ifyou keep the situation in per-spective, take a long-termview, evaluate your own risktolerance and be receptive tonew possibilities.

From the Howard-Suamico School District Board

HSSD Graduate Profile: ResponsibleFirst and foremost, we want

to assure you that theHoward-Suamico SchoolDistrict is taking measures torespond to the COVID-19pandemic. For the most cur-rent updates as to how thishealth crisis is being ad-dressed, please visit our web-site atwww.hssdschools.org/covid19. Even in the midst of thisall, the Howard-SuamicoSchool District’s vision is tocreate an authentic, innova-tive, connected, and inspiredexperience for an ever-chang-ing future.

Howard-Suamico SchoolDistrict (HSSD) vision is anauthentic, innovative, con-nected, and inspired experi-

ence for an ever-changing fu-ture. In order to achieve thisvision for our students, HSSDGraduate Profile has been de-veloped to include sevencharacteristics that are at thecenter of learning in ourschools and community.Graduate Profile characteris-tics are critical skills for en-gaged citizenship, successfulcareer paths, and meaningfulcommunity involvement.Graduate Profile characteris-tics include self-starter, criti-cal thinker, collaborator, communicator, adaptable, re-sponsible, and solutionist.Rigorous academic standardspresent daily opportunities forstudents to demonstrate pro-file characteristics in our

classrooms. Foundational ac-ademic skills learned andmeasured alongside the grad-uate profile characteristics ac-centuate a whole-studentexperience in HSSD.

Throughout the year, theBoard of Education monitorsstudent performance in HSSDGraduate Profile seven char-acteristics. At the January 27,2020 Board meeting, we dis-cussed the characteristic re-sponsible and progress beingmade to develop our studentsas responsible people who actwith empathy and take own-ership of the outcomes oftheir choices. Students havemany opportunities to prac-tice being responsible in theirclasses, as well as in extra-

curricular activities both inand out of school. Studentslearn to be responsible forthemselves by understandingand applying digital etiquetteand ethics, by taking initiativeto find, use and care for per-sonal materials, and by usingtools and strategies to be suc-cessful. Students also prac-tice managing time wisely tomeet deadlines and fulfill ob-ligations. Students learn to beresponsible for their commu-nity by taking initiative tofind, use and care for com-munity materials, and by un-derstanding, recognizing, andengaging in service to meetthe needs of others. We talkedwith teachers and studentsfrom multiple grade levels

about their experiences learn-ing and growing to be respon-sible. HSSD students createpersonal goals that can bemeasured, and they developand implement action steps towork towards those goals. Wealso learned about groupwork, simulations, and realworld scenarios that are inte-grated into all content areas tobuild responsibility in stu-dents.

A large portion of our stu-dents are involved in extra-curricular activities, many ofwhich have service compo-nents in which students pro-vide service to others inschool and community.

Rich learning opportunitiesfor students to engage in per-

formance tasks in which theyapply their learning and de-velop a product or perform-ance are increasing sostudents can grow and learnthese seven characteristics.Seeing our students intention-ally developing HSSD Grad-uate Profile characteristics isexciting and rewarding be-cause we know they are beingprepared to thrive in our com-plex and rapidly changingworld. Security: Ways to protectyour resident or businesssubmitted by Rich Robokoff,Eagle Tech Corp

Security Cameras BenefitsMany times, visible surveil-

lance cameras deter burglars. Why? Well, they don’t wantto take the chance of havingtheir faces captured on video.Such an event can lead tothem becoming identified andhaving to spend time behindbars.

Most modern devices arecompatible with smartphones. Thus, if a trespasser wandersonto your property, you willreceive a notification on yourphone. Then, you can viewthe live feed to discoverwhether a real or false alarmis taking place.

Getting advanced warningallows the homeowner tocontact the police and getthem on the scene promptly. These devices are commonlyknown as DVR or NVR, thisequipment in many cases areequipped with on board harddrive(s) that can record days, week or months of recording. As an extra layer of securityone can back up to a hard

drive and/or the cloud forplayback.

Lock the doors and windowsThis should be done when

you are at home as well aswhen you leave. All a burglarneeds is one easy way to gainaccess to a home.

If you come home and no-tice that a door or window hasbeen opened, do not go in-side. Instead, call the author-ities immediately. If therewas an intruder, they couldstill be inside the home.

Install a stronger doorLocks may not be enough to

keep intruders out of yourhome. You should also en-sure that you have a solid anddurable door in place, as wellas sturdy and reliable le lock-ing mechanisms.

The door should be made ofstrong materials and rein-forced with an equally strongframe. Deadbolt locks shouldalso be used on all exteriordoors.

Keep your phone nearbyAs a senior, it is important

to have your phone with youat all times in case somethingwere to happen while you areat home. It should be easilyaccessible in case of an emer-gency. It is also a good ideato carry your phone with youwhen you answer the door aswell in case you need to callfor help.

Don’t hide spare keysIt is never recommended to

hide a spare key outside. Aseasoned burglar knows allthe possible hiding spots peo-ple go for to hide their sparekey, so it isn’t safe. Insteadof hiding a key leave a copywith a trusted friend, neigh-bor, or family membernearby.

Motion sensor lightsHaving motion sensor lights

installed as well as makingsure they exterior of the prop-erty is well-illuminated is agood way to deter criminalsfrom trying to break into thehome. Without darkness tohide the, there is a muchgreater chance that they willbe caught.
