2009-2011

EDMONTON COUNTY SCHOOL is involved in an international

programme called the Lifelong Learning Programme ‘Comenius.

The project involves working in partnership with the College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London and four European

partners over the next 2 years.

The partnership:

The Institutions are in a variety of areas from a capital city to more rural areas. All the schools have a wide diversity of intake, including migrant families and with over thirty different languages spoken. One of the aspects of the project will be to bring together different schools with diverse histories of student learning in sport, health and well being. We feel these differences will enable us to learn a great deal from one another.

•Edmonton County School, England: A large mixed school of over 1600 students in Outer London for students from age 11 to 19. Students speak more than 40 languages at home.•ZSO nr 1, Poland: A general secondary school located in south Poland. The school was founded in 1818 and is the oldest in the region. •Istituto Tecnico “Plateja”, Italy : A private secondary vocational school placed in the city centre of , south of , for students aged 14-19 years old. •The College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London, England: formed in August 2009 following the merger of The College of North East London (CONEL) and Enfield College, making it one of the largest colleges for further education in the United Kingdom.•Escola Secundária do Restelo, Portugal: Around 1000 students in Lisbon. Most of the students are Portuguese but some other nationalities and also some exchange students from other countries.

Objectives of the partnership:

•To identify and promote teenage wellbeing , health and fitness.

•To integrate European Youth through sports, arts and cultures.

•To enhance the mutual understanding between different cultures.

•To raise awareness of the importance of an healthy lifestyle.

What will students do ?

They will teach each other about their lifestyles, health and sporting interests...

they will learn about each other’s European identity...

...in an attempt to improve their happiness and well being.

What will teachers do ?

They will share best practice across their schools...

.... in order to improve student learning in the institutions.

How will we communicate between schools?

Because on-going communication is essential, we will:

send and answer emails regularly.

set up a partnership website where ideas, experiences and activities will be exchanged.

have video-conferencing sessions.

How will students be involved in the project?

• Two students from each school will be elected to the student European Management Group to represent their school in planning activities across the partnership.

•At least eight students from each institution will take part in one mobility each year and they will report back on their experiences and what they learned to the wider school community.

•A group of students will be involved in planning activities and evaluation within each institution led by the two student leaders.

What kind of activities will students do ?

Students will:

•coordinate and host the visit from our partner schools in 2010.•write articles and take part in the themed projects.•be involved in keeping the partnership website up-to-date.•organise all students learning ‘survival’ phrases in all partner languages.•devise a questionnaire to be completed by all students in the partnership at the start and end of each year in order to evaluate the benefits of the project.
