It’s true. Spring is just around the corner. I saw my first robin today and it was singing brilliantly. And, the sun was shining!! There are other signs, too. Our Snowbirds are slowly returning. These are all good events. Good things are happening in and for our Colony Club. We just sponsored our first Spelling Bee at the Ocean City Intermediate School. It was a total success! Thank you to all who participated and especially, Denise Szymanski, who chaired the Bee. The winning word was perturb. The winner went onto the State Bee at the State Federation Building in New Brunswick but, unfortunately did not win in that event. Our upcoming general meeting on Monday, March 16th will be dedicated to our new members. As you know, we are hosting this covered dish dinner in their honor. CAPA is planning a special presentation for your entertainment pleasure. And, remember this special event begins at 6:00 PM. The Southern District Arts/Performing Day is Wednesday, March 25th hosted by the Millville Woman’s Club. Registrations begins at 10:15 AM. If you are interested in attending, please let me know. We will be carpooling from my home. Achievement Day is April 22nd and held at Greate Bay Country Club. Information was in recent emails to you. Contact Elaine Novello with any questions. Get your photographs and handy work ready to enter in this judged event. Make plans and purchase your tickets for the upcoming Look What You’ve Been Missing! Fashion Show on April 25th. Get your friends to attend. A fun filled afternoon event with lovely fashions, a delicious luncheon—all offered for a very reasonable price of $25. Best deal in town! And, don’t forget our upcoming 65th Anniversary Celebration!! Venue changed to The Flanders due to costs, but a great event is planned for May 14, 2015. And, Convention will be held May 4 -6. Please let me know if you are interested in attending. Information regarding the Convention happenings is being emailed to you. Remember the Red Solo Cup you received at our January General Meeting? Hopefully you have been saving the can tabs. Please bring them with you to the March meeting. This will be a continuous project so please keep on collecting. Looking forward to seeing everyone at our Welcome New Members’ Dinner on Monday. March 16th – 6:00 PM.

Mark soifer—Ocean City’s Publicist Extraordinaire As promised, Mark informed us of the many and varied happenings in Ocean City. Topping the list is the 2nd Mr. Mature America Pageant, March 28. The Great Easter Egg Hunt will be held on March 28 & April 4. And, let’s not forget the WOOF ’N PAWS Pet Fashion Show on April 4th. Our evening ended with Mark’s reading of his poetry. It was an informative, reflective, and funny session.
Colony Club Meeting—February 16
and the winner is… Channon Styer outspelled a field of 25 fifth graders at the Colony Club Spelling Bee held at the Ocean City Middle School. For the win, Channon successfully spelled, perturb. Congratulations, Channon!
Nancy Rice, Elder Law… The weather surely played a role in the attendance for February’s meeting…or were we missing our Snow Birds? No matter the reason, the topic of Elder Law was presented with humor, and, of course pertinent information! Nancy Rice helped clarify the importance of having a living will and Power of Attorney as we all age or support aging parents. Elders ’R Us (as per Jane) were made aware of the 2 taxes New Jersey imposes—Federal Estate and Inheritance. Nancy provided further insight as she answered several questions related to the aforementioned topics. She cautioned everyone to take heed…for some decisions, “…there are no take-backs…”
Overall, Nancy made everyone aware of the importance of planning while we are still, as the Irish say, “…on this side of the grass!”
