“My first training at TCI was the Foundation of Coaching Success (FOCS) intake of January 2014. I was so excited it was impossible to be nervous, but it’s funny, I quickly realised I was holding back at what many would call a self-development program! I caught myself out, and pushed some limits. I made it my mission to talk to as many people and introduce and link as many people as I could together. I was a little afraid I’d run into a HUGE bunch of homogenous, middle-aged new-age crazies, but instead, I ran into a like-minded group of people ranging in culture, beliefs, and age!

I came to TCI while finishing off my psychology degree and teaching martial arts. While I love uni and I am a bookworm, I disliked the fact that I did absolutely no practical work, even in my final year of a psychology degree. I was also passionate about my part-time instructor job, however, in all jobs, I’ve found I disliked one of three things: the work, the clients, or the boss… and by extension, the money.

This next bit is hard to put down on paper, because I really don’t like to be center-stage... on the first day of the FOCS intake weekend, I completed a pro bono session. On the last, I had been paid for my first session with a client. Within 2 days of finishing the FOCS intake weekend, I had been offered a place at my old highschool to talk to VCE students finishing their secondary education and their parents. My “evil” plan involves using some material from intake weekend – gasp – and edit it slightly towards VCE students considering their post-school pathways. I’ve managed to get a solid client base now and have locked in my first paid workshop!

My coaching business is called “Atlas Life Coaching” and I’m currently doing one-on-one coaching and group presentations. It was hard for me to find a name so I chose something symbolic – I’m a big fan of symbols – and something that held personal significance. The object, an “atlas”, is a collection of maps. In architecture, it is a male statue that is used as a pillar of support. It really spoke to me and it wasn’t yet registered as a business name, so I jumped on it immediately.

My vision – my why – stretches into the next five years. My first real home in Australia was on a vineyard farm. I really attribute it to a place of belonging, legacy, and a home. It was lost to my family because my dad, 30 years old and financially stable, tried to escape the 9-5 by creating his own wine business; but traveling an hour in to a job you hate, an hour back home to a wife and 3 very young children, only to work and toil on a vineyard – it was all too much. One day, I am CERTAIN that I will give my parents back that dream, and retire them. TCI has given me a vehicle to the future that I CHOOSE.

What I attribute most to my success – and it’s still early days – is getting over myself and my drive for ‘getting’ things. If you refer other people pro bonos, they remember you when that friend of theirs that they cannot coach needs a life coach. If you just have an acquaintance who opens up to you about their family, their job, their friends, you don’t even need to speak. Not many people have listening ears pointed at them, and funnily enough, you come to be seen as a good ‘talker’. The referrals is where the activity is!

Following a short transition period assisting the new owners, my family wanted me to take some time off as I have worked full time since leaving school… I have never been very good with ‘downtime’ so I started looking for something else to do. I had always known that my passion lay in helping people, whether it be personal or in business, and I knew I was OK at it. The more I was asked to help people the more I kept thinking ‘wouldn’t it be good if I could get paid for doing something I love?’ True! Well, I did some research and came across The Coaching Institute website, it resonated with me so much and before long I had enrolled in what I believed to be a ‘nice little correspondence course.’ I was tossing up whether to do the Practitioner or Advanced Practitioner and within 2 weeks had upgraded to Master Practitioner. How could I not? The value was incredible and I knew that I needed to be serious about my new journey if I wanted it to work. At the top level I was going to get the whole package! What an unbelievable ride I have had ever since.

My personal transformation has been astonishing. My relationships have improved out of sight. My family is happier than it has ever been and all because I have found true happiness. I have found it in serving others; what a gift. Within weeks of intake, I had registered my business name, had business cards made and starting coaching! I immersed myself in learning and reading everything I could. I attended all the training available. And there’s still more!

Many moons ago, I went to Melbourne University; there is no comparison, the possibilities, support and value provided at The Coaching Institute is truly remarkable. You are not just another student and that is what makes it so great.

I have started my life again and have a lovely part time coaching business whilst my youngest child is still at home and next year I plan to go full time. I have been asked to work from two wellness centres, MC events, be guest speakers at others and in two weeks I run my first paid workshop. With the skills I learned, I am now being asked to coach CEO, Vice Presidents, Directors, Senior Managers of several corporations in Thailand, both locals and multinationals. I also run series of workshops, starting from Leading ME to Success (focusing on unlocking and unleashing potentials inside each participant to achieve their desired success), Leading TEAM to Success (focusing on teaching & developing participants’ coaching skills), and lastly Leading CLIENTS to Success (focusing on using NLP and Meta Dynamics to understand and serve the customers).

My aspiration is now to bring these life skills to the general public. Thailand and its people will benefit so much from learning and applying these skills in their life. I started my journey with TCI in February 2011 after learning about TCI from my mentor, Jimi - Potchanart Seebungkerd, who also studied with TCI. When I began my journey, I only wished to learn some coaching skills so I could return to Thailand and work as an executive coach for corporations. In fact, I did not know much about coaching and had some doubt about it, but decided to trust my mentor and took the journey anyway...

Wow! I never knew that this decision would change my life and that my world would never be the same again after I flew to Melbourne to attend my first training with TCI.

I was 44 years old at the time and was in the midst of shifting my life direction from a corporate banker, where I spent 15 years of my life and felt like being imprisoned. I worked so hard in banking, trying to chase “success” like money, title, recognition, acceptance, pride, social status... But despite the fact that I had it all (my last position was Senior Vice President at HSBC), eventually it did not matter that much to me.

I was losing my health, I was losing my time with my family, I was very often under stress. I started to question myself “is this the meaning of my life?”. After reading a book “The Success Principles” by Jack Canfield along with many others, it became clear to me that there was a better life waiting for me... but it needed to be my own version of success rather the social definition of success. After a few months of reflection, I decided to leave my familiar world as a corporate citizen to a more balanced and yet more mentally rewarding life as a trainer and a coach.

Over the last few years, I have been working with corporations developing their executives and talents to become great leaders. I use the coaching models learned from TCI, along with Anthony Robbins and Jack Canfield, which allows me to differentiate myself and produce success in assisting people to achieve the outcome they desire.

“Before I joined The Coaching Institute I was working alongside my husband in the Retail Franchise sector and had spent many years frustrated because I thought I was doing all the right things... yet our business wasn’t growing and neither was I. Joe is the coaches' coach. He has trained in excess of 3000 coaches working in the field today. His range of clients includes NAB, ANZ, Ray White, Hocking Stuart, Coles Group and The Coaching Institute. Joe is one of only 10 Master Trainer in Extended DISC in Australia – an internationally accredited leading behavioural profiling tool. Joe is also degree qualified in Psychology.
