Diana Garcia joined The Claremont Club in November as the new communications specialist. She helps

Joe Piscioneri is a retired fire fighter who joined The Claremont Club in 1987. He became a personal

Dr. Craig Brandman, a certified cardiologist who started StepOne Health, a dynamic health technology company fostering wellness and longevity, was inspired by a presentation given by President/CEO of The Claremont Club, Mike Alpert, and Exercise is Medicine Advisory Board Chairman, Dr. Bob Salis, about Exercise is Medicine and Bob Salis, about Exercise is Medicine and how it is used at The Club.

Brandman was motivated by The Claremont Club’s involvement in the paralysis community with Project Walk Claremont and Dr. Salis’ research that backed up the unconventional methods used at the paralysis recovery center.

StepOne Health understands the financial StepOne Health understands the financial challenge that people with paralysis and chronic injuries go through, so Dr. Brandman has graciously offered to do complimentary, annual blood panels for all 53 of Project Walk Claremont’s spinal cord injured clients. In addition, StepOne Health has ohas offered to re-test for free every six months and every two to three weeks if there is an abnormal test result.

In September, the organization extended its offer to the entire national Project Walk franchise.

The Claremont Club is honored to be associated with StepOne Health and Dr. Brandman.

Her percentage of body fat is 21 and at six feet tall, her BMI is 28. Andryjowicz is a beautiful, slim and trim, bright and smiling young senior, at least on the calendar. But, she has the appearance of a young college student working her way through a joyful life.

Keep up the good work, Barb! Show those men and women how they too can go well over one hundred thousand miles before they need a tune up!

WORKING AT THE CLAREMONT CLUB and having the privilege to help others has been Group Exercise Instructor, Michele Leggio’s inspiration to volunteer in her community.

TheThe Aqua Instructor thrives off of helping members improve their health and well-being through exercise. She continues to help others off the clock by assisting the elderly in need oof a little assistance. She delivers meals for Real Connections, a program within

Claremont Senior Services that is always looking for volunteers.

“It“It’s because of the people I’ve dealt with as an instructor and the giving nature of The Club that I’ve thought it’s time to give back a little more,” Leggio said.

IN SUPPORT OF BREAST CANCER AWARNESS MONTH this past October, hair stylists from Ambiance Day Spa and Salon helped spread awarness through beauty.

With a $5 donation to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, clients were able to get a fun pink hair extension woven into their hair. Photos were taken of them holding a sign telling who they wear pink for.

More than 100 clients participated in the cause.

SIXTEEN YEARS AGO, a shy and soft-spoken five-year-old, who grew up in a family of swimmers, was enrolled in swim lessons at The Claremont Club. Now 21, Noelle Tarazona has blossomed into a strong, confident leader in the world of confident leader in the world of swimming and has been nationally and internationally recognized for her feats.

“I wouldn’t be where I am today without the Claremont Club,” Tarazona said. “Everyone is so supportive and it really is a

second home to me.”

Through the immense amount of support she Through the immense amount of support she received over the years at The Club, she has developed strong relationships with her coaches who have become her family.

TCC head swim coachTCC head swim coach Tressa Ries, or “Aunt Tressa” to Tarazona, was there to council her during life problems and all the steps teenage girls experience while growing up.

“I think she felt safe to develop an outgoing personality and that her leadership skills got honed at the Club,” Ries said. “She grew up on this deck.”

Tarazona’s persistency and dedication has truly paid off. She considers her biggest success so far to be qualifying for to the Olympic Trials competiton in 2008 and 2012. This is the highest level of swim competition in the world.

Her lengthy list of successes also includes her Her lengthy list of successes also includes her selection as a four-time member of the USA National Junior Team, winning the Junior Pan Pacific at age 17 in the 200 butterfly and breaking two Southern California swimming records at age 15. Tarazona is currently an All American scholar and athlete at UCLA where she studies psychology and is co-captain of she studies psychology and is co-captain of the women’s swim team.

“There has never been a kid in this program who has achieved what she has and she did it all on her own,” said Ries.

While at the Club, Noelle never missed a Friday night or Saturday morning practice and there were numerous times she was forced by the coach to go home because she was sick.

“That’s Noelle! You couldn’t ask for a better role model or better example of a great kid working hard and achieving what she did, not because she is the most talented, but because of her work ethic,” said Ries.

That hard work is what got the attention of USThat hard work is what got the attention of USA swimming, the National Governing Body of swimming in the United States, which recently selected her as a USA National Athlete representative. In this role, she is recognized as a leader on the national arena and is able to vote on swim related issues and give her opinion on a more administrative level.

Her family and coaches could not be more proud of heHer family and coaches could not be more proud of her. She has traveled all over the world while competing on the USA National Junior team and it looks as if the peak of her career is still to come.

“Early on we knew we had a good one,” said Director of Aquatics, John Ries. TTarazona’s heart has always been at The Claremont Club, which has had a huge impact on her. The Club is her home and she can always be found on holidays or summer breaks in the Olympic Pool or on the deck.

“When you get that good in the water, kids start to change clubs,” said J. Ries. “It never felt like she wanted to change clubs and she never left us.”

The Claremont Club has excellent child care The Claremont Club has excellent child care for toddlers, pre-teens and young teens. You can drop off your child for up to three hours at no cost to you. Specialized infant care for babies under 30 months is also available for a fee.

The children have special evacuation equipment with seat belts, wheels and other safety devices that ensure safe and rapid mass evacuation.mass evacuation.

In the instance of a Code Red your little ones will be exited calmly and skillfully out the backyard evacuation route to safety.

LONGTIME CLUB MEMBER, Mercedes Shaw, has always had a passion for bringing places and events to life through floral design.

Her professional career includes owning a floral business and now freelancing in retirement. She is proud to have designed for InStyle magazine and for former President George W. Bush’s Los Angeles convention when he was running for office.

ShawShaw’s beautiful creations can be seen throughout Ambiance Day Spa, especially around the holidays. This former Ambiance employee is also responsible for much of the greenery and flower arrangements throughout The Claremont Club.

Most recently, her work was featured at the 2014 Art of Giving at the Club. She put together all of the gorgeous center pieces and arrangements for the “Evening in Paradise” themed event. Although retired from her floral business and from Ambiance, she remains a loyal supporter of The Club.

“I try to get involved and help out as much as needed because I feel as if this “I try to get involved and help out as much as needed because I feel as if this place is my home,” said Shaw. “Anywhere I see a little need, I’m there. I take pride in this beautiful place.”

She became a member many years ago for the family-friendly atmosphere The Claremont Club offered. Her son grew up at the Club and now her grandchildren enjoy its benefits.

A Touch of Beauty

THE CLAREMONT CLUB WAS one of 13 teams to compete in the one of 13 teams to compete in the 2014 plane “Pull For Our Heroes” at the Ontario International Airport in October. “The Claremont Crew,” which consisted of some of your favorite trainers and staff, pulled a 120,000 pound 727 Boeing 25-feet in 10.61 seconds.
