Why We Must Address Trauma
• Exposure To Violence Can Have Long Term Effects on Youth– The more exposure a child has to violence, the
higher the likelihood that he/she will engage in risky behavior
Children/Adolescents
• Hypervigilance
• Emotional problems
• Alcohol and drug use
• Problems with trust
• Problems with concentration
• Difficulties with emotional regulation and impulse control
We matter
• More than the building or the program. Young people come for the content, but the context matters and helps them success or bounce back.
• They watch adult behaviors closely and how we model adaptive strategies to stress matters.
