■ Low “E”: Low-emissivity glassis coated with a microscopicallythin metallic layer that allows vis-ible light to pass through, whileblocking ultraviolet and infraredsolar energy and reflecting awaylong-wave room-side heat energy.Different types of Low “E” coatingsoffer varying levels of performancefor each of these tasks.

■ U-Value: The rate of heat flowthrough a glazing system; thelower the value, the better theinsulating quality. U-value can becompared to R-value by dividing 1

by the U-value. (Thus, a U-value of0.5 equals an R-value of 2.)

■ Daylight Transmittance:Measures the amount of visiblelight that is transmitted throughthe glass.

Why cleaning is soquick and easy.

While some new clad-wood windows tilt in forcleaning from inside, mostuse a “compression jamb” system. You must push outat the jamb while simulta-neously pulling the sashtowards you and down.
