Cardiovascular System

• Heart, blood vessels and blood. Carries needed materials to the cells and takes wastes away.

Major Organs

• Heart – The pump, moves about 1.3 gallons of blood each minute. About the size of your fist, beats about 70 times per minute, infants 120 bpm.

• Structure of the heart: contains 4 chambers 2 ventricles 2 atria, a septum separates the ventricles and atria.

Task

• Read pages 102 – 104. Use the diagram on page 103 to label the diagram of the heart. Then use the words provided to fill in the graphics organizer of blood flow through the cardiovascular system. Note some are already filled in for you!

• Read page 118 describe the function of the lymphatic system and the lymph nodes.

• Read pages 121 – 124. List them, their causes, and their symptoms.
