May 15, 2016 Message from the Pastor: Today we celebrate the Solemnity of Pentecost. Once again we are reliving Easter night with Jesus and the disciples. He breathes on them, communicating the gift of the Holy Spirit. They gladly receive Jesus' Spirit and his ministry of forgiving sins. At Pentecost the Spirit will send them forth as living signs that Jesus has overcome sin and death. Peace and forgiveness are gifts from Jesus in the Holy Spirit. Forgiveness is not forgiving and forgetting. It does not deny that a wrong or a hurt took place. When we forgive someone, or are forgiven, we allow the Holy Spirit to rebuild the bridge between us, even stronger than before. Because we are limited and human, we may not feel this all at once. But forgiveness is part of God's love. When we forgive, we bring God's love into our lives and into the lives of those who have hurt us. God continually sends the Spirit to dwell within us. This indwelling Spirit empowers us to love with God’s steadfastness. Transformed by the Spirit, our love moves from “if I can do this” to “I can, or I will do this!” This weekend at all Masses we will celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the first Mass of our Parish. On May 14th, 1916, the Very Reverend Ernest Coppo of the Salesian Provincial blessed our original Church. In honor of our 100th Anniversary celebration, my parents commissioned a special gift in commemoration of this momentous occasion which I was unaware of and it was hand carried to our Parish recently. This most beautiful wood sculpture of the Immaculate Heart of Mary was carved from local wood and hand painted by an artist near my town in Groszowice, Poland. Its new home will be adorning our Chapel with the stained glass window on the left side. Please stop by and say a special prayer to Mary, our Mother, that she will continue to guide and watch over us as we embark on the next century of our Parish; and to all those who, over the past 100 years, worked so tirelessly with absolute devotion to Jesus and his Mother Mary in making this Parish so alive and vibrant today! I hope to see you at the 100th Anniversary Receptions this weekend immediately following the 5pm Mass on Saturday and all Masses on Sunday in our Parish Hall in thanksgiving and fellowship of our year long Jubilee celebration!! Additionally, the Crowning of our Blessed Mother will take place on Sunday at the 9am and 12 Noon Masses. I would like to sincerely thank everyone who has so generously donated to the “We are Living Stones” campaign. To date, we have received $232,726 in pledges from 120 donors with $51,280 paid on the pledges already this year. We are over half way to our Parish goal and the impact of your sacrifices and generosity will bear much fruit in our Parish and throughout the Archdiocese as well. Please remember to keep our second group of nineteen children who received Jesus in the Eucharist for the first time this Saturday and their families in your prayers. “Come, God of our ancestors! Transform us in the love of Jesus by the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen.”

The feast day of St. Bernardine of Siena is May 20th.

“Did You Know?” Saint Pope John Paul II credited Our Lady of Fatima with saving his life following the assassination attempt on Wednesday, May 13, 1981, the Feast of Our Lady of Fatima. The following year in 1982 he added his assassination bullet to the Canonical Crown of the statue of Our Lady of Fatima in the Chapel of Apparitions in Fatima. Then, on May 12, 1987 he visited the shrine to express his gratitude to the Virgin Mary for saving his life.
