THE CHURCH OF ST. JOHN THE EVANGELIST 71 Murray Avenue, Goshen, New York 10924 www.sjegoshen.org - (845) 294-5328 - [email protected] Piero della Francesca, The Nativity of Jesus (unfinished, ca. 1460-75) FOURTH SUNDAY OF ADVENT - DECEMBER 20, 2015 Last weekend’s bulletin included the summary of the parish’s financial condition for the 2014-2015 fiscal year, which ended on August 31, 2015. The parish had a healthy surplus of a little over $78,000, which is better than the budgeted figure of $55,000. At the same time, we’ve had several significant and unexpected expenses of late. They include the patching of the roof over the classrooms; a new steam condensate tank and pump for the church boiler; the rebuilding of the water supply to the boiler (the original piping from 1997 had completely rotted away); and all new zone valves on the cafeteria boiler. In the school heating plant, numerous broken zone valves were replaced and several leaks fixed, the multiple systems in McCaffrey Hall were tied together, and the boilers were programmed to operate more efficiently. The grand total for all of this work is $33,694. That’s quite a sum to spend on repairs, but none of them could be put off any longer. I would be remiss if I failed to point out that the old Catholic stalwart – bingo – has covered a sizeable portion of those costs. I don’t know if we could even begin to calculate how many projects have been paid for by bingo since it started nearly forty years ago. It has been, and continues to be, an indispensable asset in keeping our physical plant in good order. For this, we owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to Sharon and Rich Van Sickle, and to the countless volunteers who, Thursday after Thursday, give their time and energy to this unheralded but important service to the parish. Faithfully your priest, Fr. George Hafemann

FOURTH SUNDAY OF ADVENT - DECEMBER 20, 2015

Last weekend’s bulletin included the summary of the parish’s financial condition for the 2014-2015 fiscal year, which ended on August 31, 2015. Loving God,

During this holy season of Christmas,

we ask for your blessing on all families.

Let Mary’s openness to your wondrous ways

be an inspiration to place all trust in you.

Let Joseph’s courage provide hope

Let Jesus’ life ignite all families

with a spirit of light and love.

May the grace that encircled the Holy Family

widen to embrace all families.

For this we pray.

Amen.
