All of us are familiar with saying goodbye.

In this modern world people are con-

stantly being transferred to new jobs or

simply move to live in a different area of

the country. Some goodbyes are routine.

    Others are not so easy.

After fifteen and a half years of service to The Church at

Horseshoe Bay, Karen Carson has announced her retirement.

During those years Karen has served as choir director, the church

organist and the church business manager. All of us have bene-

fited from the fine things she has done for the church. We have

appreciated especially her outstanding contributions to the worship

service through her skills at the piano and organ.

Though we will miss Karen tremendously, we understand

her decision to retire. Karen and Ted have long wanted to do

some traveling and other projects that working full time have pro-

hibited them from doing. So we wish them well.

When anyone who has made great contributions to an or-

ganization departs, that person leaves not only memories but

leaves a legacy as well. Karen’s legacy will live on as having been

a substantial factor in the church’s growth and fine reputation in

Horseshoe Bay. Years from now, people will fondly look back to

the days when Karen played one of her signature pieces on the

organ accompanied by herself on the piano she had prepro-

    grammed.

A special farewell fellowship is planned for Karen this Sun-

day, 12 October, after both worship services. We strongly encour-

age as many of you as possible to consider attending to say good-

    bye to Karen.

Karen, we wish you well on your retirement. Our prayer is

that God will continue to go with you and bless you in a special

    way.

    Blessings,

    Pete

  • COFFEE FELLOWSHIPS TO HONOR KAREN CARSONOn Sunday, October 12, both coffee fellowships will honor retiring Karen Carson, our

church Organist and Business Manager for 15 1/2 years. The congregation will miss her andher contribution to our worship services, but we are happy for Karen and her future withtime now for her husband, travel and personal pleasures.

Karen began piano and organ lessons at the age of six and has a God-given talent forchurch music. At sixteen she became the organist for a church in Denison, Texas. She beganher business career after studying business and music at Grayson County Junior College inDenison.

She and her husband owned and operated a chain of Levi-Strauss specialty shops inOklahoma City and from there, a partnership in an independent oil company. Later theyowned a 1,600 acre cattle ranch in Oklahoma. In 1992, Karen was hired as the BusinessManager and Organist for The Church at Horseshoe Bay.

Please come join us for coffee and the opportunity to express your appreciation andlove for Karen.

    Dear Friends,

The family of Ralph Herter is

    overwhelmed by the love and

    outpouring of love, support,

and prayers during the time of

    his illness. He continues to

have a fighting spirit as he

    faces the medical challenges

ahead. We have so much to be

    thankful for, particularly the

    people of our very special,

    wonderful and caring church

    family. Thank you and God

    Bless you all!

I want to thank the church

    members who so kindly ex-

    pressed concern, sympathy and

prayers at the time of my sis-

    ter’s death. The many cards,

phone calls and prayers for our

    family have been greatly ap-

    preciated. It is so wonderful

to have a church “family” here

in HSB. I am so grateful.

    Thank You! Linda Amstutz

    We extend our Christian

    sympathies to:

    Linda Amstutz on the

    death of her sister.

    Dortha Coalter &

Family on the death of Lew

    Coalter.

    Suzanne Owens on

    the death of her step-son

    Stewart.

    John Lottman and

    family on the death of

    Marjorie Lottman on Tues-

    day, October 7. Marjorie

    passed away in Houston after

    an extended illness.

    We extend our congratula-

    tions and best wishes to:

    Warren & Ruth New-

man on the birth of their

    10th grandchild, Sean Joseph

    Newman on September 5.

Thank you for your prayers and

    support during Ekkehard’s re-

    cent hospitalization and surgery.

Also, a special thank you to Pete

and Johnny for their many visits

    during his hospitalization and

    recovery.

    Love,

    Nancy & Ekkehard Dittmar

Tom and I want to thank you

    for your words of encourage-

    ment, cards, food, and especially

for your prayers for us during

my illness. All of your efforts

    resulted in a shorter recovery

time for me. It’s wonderful to

be a part of a church so faithful

    in prayer.

The Highland Lakes/Hill CountryLong Term Recovery Committee

(LTRC) is going to rebuild two homes in the next several monthsand they are looking for volunteers to help in the reconstruction. These two homes will have to be completely torn down and re-built from the ground up. One is in Smithwick and the other is inGranite Shoals. Through divine intervention a group from theMennonite Disaster Response Team has volunteered to rebuildthese two houses. The Mennonites, who are sought after forthere types of projects, have about six to eight married couplesthat go around the country doing this type of work. They are al-ready here and will probably stay until January or Febru-ary. The LTRC will have to provide the funding for the materialsto rebuild the houses. The committee is looking for volunteersto help with the project and they would appreciate donations inany amount. So, if anyone can swing a hammer or use a saw, they would appreciate the help. If you can’t volunteer, thenmaybe give a donation to help with cost of the project. PleaseContact Karen Baptiste at 830-693-0700 if you would like to givea donation, volunteer or have questions.

The Highland Lakes Health Partnership (HLHP), aftermuch research, recommended that a dental clinic be estab-lished within the Burnet/Llano counties area, staffed by localprofessionals on a voluntary basis to meet the dental healthneeds of people who can not afford to access the private dentalservices in the area. The name will be Rotary Dental Suite. The First Baptist Church in Marble Falls has offered a perma-nent location for the clinic and donations of equipment andfunds has already started, but more donations are needed forother dental equipment. Your Benevolence Committee is sup-porting this project thru a donation, but you can also help thrudonations and/or volunteering. Please contact Cathy Fletcher at693-3989 or Kathy Kasparek 693-7152 for more information.

With the welcoming of an Ad-ministrative Manager, we have com-pleted some major rearrangements tothe office setting. Please stop by to-day and see the “new” office look.

Special thanks to the “office an-gels” who assisted with moving oldand new furniture, and organizing both the front office and thefinancial office. We love our new look. THANKS SO MUCH!

The office will be closed on Monday, October 13, in ob-servance of Columbus Day and will reopen for regular busi-ness hours on Tuesday.
