Family First Begins Again!
Join us October 2nd for our first Family First of the year. This
is a potluck meal so bring a dish to share. We will eat at 5:45
and then once we are finished eating we will gather for a game
Bible Jeopardy. Come with your knowledge and competitive
spirits. It will be fun!
Join Us Wednesdays for Bible Study.
Dinner at 5:45 and lessons at 6:15 p.m.
Jill Gresham will be leading adults and youth in discus-
sion about peace this fall. We will have two children’s
groups. 2nd graders and younger will be in one and 3rd
graders and older will be in another. After a Bible Study
both groups will come together to learn a memory verse
and play a game.
We have been invited to come to a panel
discussion about substance abuse that
will take place at the high school. A police
officer, the superintendent of Dee-Mack
schools, and a clinician will be part of the
panel. I hope you can come and learn and
also show our support for some great
work the school is doing.

Hello Friends,
I hope this note finds you well. I am away this week
for a retreat in Buffalo, MN. This retreat is is part of a
broader program I am a part of for clergy who have
begun ministry in the last 5 years. We have two
retreats a year and each retreat we start with a
worship service and then a check-in. The check-in is
a time when each person shares for 3 minutes what is
happening in their lives and at work. Afterwards the
person on their left offers up a prayer.
Often our leader offers a theme or question to answer
during this check-in. Last night the word was “hope”
and the scripture came from Psalm 130: 7-8. “O
Israel, hope in the Lord! For with the Lord there is
steadfast love, and with him is great power to
redeem. It is he who will redeem Israel from all its
iniquities.”
Where do you find hope in your life? Where do you
see God’s steadfast love? Have you witnessed God’s
power to redeem?
I ask these questions now to you all. Sometimes we
get bogged down in anxieties and worries that a
question brings us to a new perspective. It jolts us into remembering, recognizing, and naming
where hope, love, and redemption are in our lives and communities. I hope these questions are as
life giving to you as they were for me.
Peace be with you, Pastor Judith
New Worship Series!
In October we will be looking to the Gospels and in
particular the Gospel of Luke. It has been a while since
we have been in the Gospels and I am looking forward to
returning. We will hear again some parables that never
lose their power. We will hear again how powerful even a
small bit of faith can be. We will hear about our call to
return and give thanks to life giving moments. We will be
encouraged to not lose heart and to pray always. And
lastly we will be encouraged to be humble in our faith.
These are powerful scriptures that break into our current
day without much difficulty. I hope to worship with you
as we retell some extraordinary stories of Jesus in
October.
We will keep you in our prayers . . .

Thank you so much for your generous contribution to our efforts here in New
Mexico and throughout the United States. We are working every day to
provide temporary shelter, food, hygiene items, clothes, blankets and handy
items like flashlights & umbrellas, to people living in poverty/without
adequate housing. The temps are still rising over 100 degrees daily &
summertime is a terrible time to be homeless. Thank you for the continued
support of your grateful family in Christ.

Outreach Update
School is back in session, and so are our Wednesday nights, our Snack Pak program, and our Community Conversations. Our first Community Conversation was on Tues, Sept 17 at the Mackinaw Community Center. The subject presented by our own Erin Osborn, was Navigating the Mental Health System. Look for the flyers around town and in the water bills, too.
Book Study!
Join us in reading He Who Wept: An Epic Novel of
Jeremiah by Thom Lemmon. This is a different genre for
this group. It is an extra-biblical take on the life of
Jeremiah. I have found books like this can help the story
within the Bible come more alive and bring more imagery
to what we already know about the Bible. However, it is
important to keep in mind this is one author’s take. Join
us to see what we can learn about Jeremiah.
We will meet Monday, October 7th, at 6:30 p.m.
October 15th at 6:00 p.m.
Join us for another conversation regarding mental health. The October
conversation will be focused on depression. Erin Osborn will be leading
us again.
Even if you do not attend the Wed night Youth or the Adult Bible Study, you can still help out by signing up to prepare a meal. There are suggestions listed, but you don't have to use them. Our meals are simple and easy. The sign-up sheet is in the upstairs Sunday School hall. If you are wishing to help with a meal, you ca usually count on 15 persons.
Just a reminder, you do not have to wait until Week of Compassion to make a donation. With the recent hurricane activities, donations are always accepted. Just include a note on your offering envelope to specify WoC. Your help is greatly appreciated.

More thanks….
Many thanks to the Cornwells for hosting us at their
farm on 9/18. It was a beautiful night to enjoy out-
side, great food, and a fun hay rack ride. Thanks for
all who came!
