INSIDE THIS ISSUE
Thanksgiving Service with St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church
Sunday, November 18—7:00 pm at St. Andrew’s, 121 High Street, Mt. Holly
Come worship and give thanks!
2
Dear Members and
Friends:
On All Saints’
Sunday we will sing
the familiar hymn
For All the Saints (note first two verses
below). We’ll name all from the St. Paul’s
community who have died since last All
Saints’ Sunday. We’ll give thanks to God
for those who have gone before us, for the
legacy they bequeathed to us. St Paul’s is
now in its 151st year! On Reformation
Sunday we burned the mortgage,
celebrating another milestone blessing.
Just think of Miriam Prickett’s gracious gift
to the church in May that made it possible
sooner than we would have expected. Just
think of all the people – thousands probably
– who have shared a portion of their
treasure through 151 years to make the
whole of this congregation possible!
For all the saints who from their labors rest,
who thee by faith before the world
confessed,
thy name, O Jesus, be forever blest.
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Thou wast their rock, their fortress, and
their might;
thou, Lord, their captain in the well-fought
fight;
thou, in the darkness drear, their one true
light.
Alleluia! Alleluia
What will our legacy be? What will we
create and then leave for the generations
that follow us? In my short time with you
as your interim pastor I have seen your
generosity. I have seen your willingness to
share the Good News of God in Christ with
our neighbors near and far. Praise God for
your ministries! You all are ministers,
followers of Jesus, in one way or another.
We are a faith community on a journey of
healing and strengthening our ministries of
loving and serving all of God’s children.
God’s Spirit is working in St. Paul’s.
Praise God!
On All Saints’ weekend you will have the
opportunity to complete a Confidential
Offering Commitment Card to be given to
the Financial Secretary who will give the
total amount to the Finance Team so the
Council can properly prepare our Ministry
Plan (budget) for 2019. The council and I
ask you to prayerfully consider increasing
your offering by at least 1% or moving up
to a tithe (10%) of your income. Thank
you. God bless you in your ministries.

Music Matters
November 2018
by Denisemarie Ramos
Did you know? The New Jersey School of Music recitals start this month. If you are on Altar Guild please check the recital schedule so you can plan accordingly. Recitals are free and open to the public so everyone is welcome to attend. Did you know? The organ automatically gets tuned and maintained twice a year, once before Christmas and once before Easter. Still, it is a massive and delicate instrument, and I have to call to have it looked at or fixed more often than twice a year, so it is well cared for. Did you know? Doug and Louise Hikade repaired the lid to the baby grand piano recently. It’s sporting a new hinge from the Yamaha piano factory and is ready for recital and Christmas season. (Thank you Doug and Louise!) Did you know? The bells haven’t been refurbished in over fifteen years! It’s time to have them spiffed up. Jackie Smith and Sue Carpenter-Bayley are working on a plan.
Did you know? The band is learning a new song, that’s actually an old hymn. Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing is the newest piece at the 9:00 am contemporary service, but it was written by Robert Robinson it 1757, when he was just twenty-two years old. I’m sure it seemed quite modern at the time. Did you know? One of our new members, Connie Rossano has joined the Christus Choir. Welcome Connie! Did you know? St. Paul’s is joining with St. Andrews for a Thanksgiving Eve service Sunday, November 18, at 7:00 pm, at St. Andrews. The choirs are preparing to combine to sing an anthem at this service. I am grateful for all the blessings and challenges the music ministry faces all the time. We have a lot going on, but with so many talented people coming together, there is nothing we can’t accomplish. If you ever want to know more about what’s going on, don’t hesitate to ask!
Please Bring Your Cereal to SS!
Sunday School has begun collecting Cereal for St. Paul’s annual Thanksgiving Baskets for the Hainesport community. We gladly accept any type of cereal.

Sunday School ~ Come BARK DOG!
Sunday School + Sundays, 10:30 – 11:30
I normally thank Team SS at the end of every Chimes article. This month, I begin with their acknowledgement!
In October, I had to work three weeks in a row; for two of those weeks, I was out of town. Yet, on Week One, the Keepers of the Dog House demonstrated BARK DOG. They showed exceptional kindness to our SS friends and taught a lesson on Moses. They did Moses and God proud! (We are learning about Moses. Here’s a shout out to former SS teacher, Mr. Larry. He inspired us to do more Bible stories!) To Team SS: Steve Louie, Jen McLaren, Laurie Sambucci, Laurie Maccri, Ericka Soles, Marisa Bozarth, Robin Sper-ry, and Krissy Soltesz – a special thank you for helping to take care of the dog house!
Share this with your family, friends, St. Paul’s friends you see and our St. Paul’s friends who you haven’t seen in a while…
My idea for November’s article, comes from Trinity Lutheran Church in South Dakota. They have 200 youth in their Sunday School program and 29 teachers. There are 20 9th graders being confirmed on Reformation Sunday, 10/28. They also have 39 7th & 8th grad-ers led by five mentors in confirmation. This is inspiring…and St. Paul’s SS will grow, but Team SS needs your help!
I ask you this question…
Are you allowing your child to be IN 2?
+ Be INvolved!
+ Come INcrease your child’s love of God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit!
+ Find out, INdeed we are all Children of God!
+ Experience INnumerable activities that help your child discover God’s world!
+ Know that your child(ren) is INcluded and in all of his/her/their unique ways!
Help your children develop a relationship with Jesus now! In a world where there are so many telling us that Jesus is not relevant, how do you expect our children to find him rele-vant as adults? Help create an INcessant dialogue between your child(ren) and God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit
JoIN Sunday School where we BARK DOG – Behold and Remember Kindness – Do Only God!
I am blessed to be BARK DOG at Sunday School each week!

Worship Words Benedicamus – Latin: “let us bless” The invitation, “let us bless the Lord,” to which the congregation responds “Thanks be to God.” This exchange precedes the benediction in some rites, including Morning Prayer and Evening Prayer, where it has been used since the eleventh century. Benediction – Latin: “blessing” The blessing of the congregation pronounced by the presiding minister at the conclusion of a liturgy. The practice dates to at least the third century. Historically there were two alternate benedictions: a simple Trinitarian blessing and the Aaronic blessing - from Numbers 6.22-27 - which God commanded Aaron to say. The sign of the cross, a longstanding tradition at the benediction, is a reminder of Baptism. The benediction is not a prayer for blessing, but rather is a blessing in the name of God and is spoken only by an ordained minister. The presiding minister traces the sign of the cross over the people. An alternate version replacing “you” with “us” is provided when a layperson is leading a service.
From Worship Words, R. Van Loon & S. A. Stauffer, Augsburg Fortress 1995
Have you been sitting in church with your kids and heard “Mom, Dad, I’m boooorrreed…..?” (Yes, they do drag it out that long!) It’s not always easy for the little ones to sit still during the service. But you say to yourself, “Wait, didn’t I see something in the back of the church for the kids?” Yes, you did! In the back corner of the sanctuary, by the sacristy, is a children’s area. You’ll find crayons, paper and Busy Bags! Busy Bags are full of fun things for the kids to do. Ann & Scott Macintosh make sure the bags are stocked and ready to go. They change them around for the seasons so there are always new and interesting things in them for the kids. Ann & Scott, thank you for helping our kids love church!
We appreciate you!

Social Ministry
Christmas Giving Tree Ho, ho, ho! The holidays are right around the corner! As in years past, we will be participating in the Giving Tree outreach. Gift tags will be placed on a Christmas tree in the Narthex, and those interested in participating can take a tag and buy that item for a deserving child in Mt. Holly. The tree will be set up starting the weekend of November 18 and the unwrapped gifts are to be returned no later than noon on December 9. The gift tag must be returned with the gift. The youth group will be wrapping the gifts on December 16. Further directions will be available on the table near the tree. If you have any questions please see Sandy Sambucci or Laurie Maccri. Thank you in advance for your support of this project.
Are You a Veteran?

Candle Decorating
Wednesday, December 5
1:00 pm
Council Room
This has been a tradition since Donald Schupp
was our pastor at St. Paul’s. It’s a Moravian
tradition. Each color on the candles represents
a church season. The “tutus” are made out of
colored tissue. Each “tutu” is precisely cut by
hand.
It’s a reverent tradition held by many of our
long-time members, especially when we sing
“Silent Night” on Christmas Eve.
This is a true labor of LOVE!
This event is not just for the ladies, men and
families are welcome! If you have questions,
please contact Joy Lynch.
St. Paul’s Christmas
Post Office
Beginning the weekend of November 24/25,
St. Paul’s Post Office will be open in the
Narthex for the Christmas season. This will
allow members to “mail” their Christmas card
greetings to other members by simply dropping
their cards unstamped in the Narthex mail box.
We will then separate the cards by name and
make them available for pick up in the
Narthex. THE CARDS WILL NOT BE
MAILED.
This is a way for members to send other
members their greetings without incurring the
expense of postage. It’s up to you, of course,
but you may want to consider spending your
“savings” by donating the amount you saved to
the Lutheran Disaster Response - Hurricane
Relief.
Please remove all seasonal
decorations from
the cemetery by
November 25.
Thank you.

November 4 thru November 10
St. Paul’s Social Ministry Team will be observing
Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week
with our annual Thanksgiving Basket appeal.
Thanksgiving will be here before we know it. As we look forward to gathering together with family & friends for a bountiful Thanksgiving Dinner, we should also be thinking of those who could use our help to fill their own Thanksgiving table. We at St. Paul’s are blessed, and we have so many things to be thankful for. Please remember the families in our community who are struggling to put food on their table by donating food for a local family’s Thanksgiving meal.
Please bring in the following nonperishable items to help complete a thanksgiving dinner on Saturday and Sunday, November 10 and 11:
* If you are donating a cake mix or pie filling as a dessert, please include all necessary ingredients (pie dough, icing etc).
**We are asking for a turkey or ham (place in the freezer in the kitchen) or $1.00 donation per family member to be used towards the purchase of a turkey or ham.
As in previous years we are also asking for donations of perishable items to fill out the Thanksgiving baskets. The items requested will be on the turkey display in the narthex beginning on Saturday, October 27. Please take a turkey feather with the item(s) you are willing to donate, and sign the “I will supply” sheet. These items must be returned before 11:00 on Sunday, November 18.
The need for food continues to be great. We expect to hand out about 30 baskets this year. Please join us, our Sunday School, youth groups, scout troops and many of the other outside groups who use our building, in collecting this food. The families we help are enrolled in the free lunch program at local schools. For many of these children the only meals they can count on are the breakfast & lunch they receive at school. We hope to have enough food in each basket to last until they return to school on Monday. Any remaining food will be donated to local organizations for use in their food pantry.
Please contact Betty Brink at (609) 267-7740 if you are interested in shopping, packing or distributing the food baskets on November 18.

The Youth Group is off to a good start this year! On Tuesday, October 30, members went to Bridge of Peace in Camden to hand out treats to the neighborhood children Thanks to everyone who donated treats! The group painted pumpkins, played games and planned the Trunk or Treat this month. Fall Clean Up at St. Paul’s!
Saturday, November 10, 2018, the Property
Team has planned our Annual Fall cleanup.
We will gather outside the Narthex at 9 AM
and there will be coffee and donuts.
Our seasonal cleanup of our grounds is
priority. We will rake and drag leaves to pile
for pick-up, and prune and weed as needed.
Ditches adjacent to the parking lot, front and
back, need clean-up to maintain water
drainage flow. We also need to clean gutters
along the education wing side, the old
church, memorial garden, and courtyard area.
We will also remove the “Guest” signs and
posts to aid mowing and snow removal
efforts by our volunteers. The paint is peeling
from the “Guest” signs so these 4 parking
spots will be marked with stenciled “Guest”
in each parking spot. Depending on weather,
this project is also on our to-do list.
Please help us determine what other areas
need attention by cleaning up your areas and
putting items not needed or wanted in the
appropriate recycle or discard receptacles. If
in doubt, please check with the office. If
there is too much for a normal trash/recycle,
we will need to plan accordingly. We want to
keep our storage areas in order so we are
better able to use our resources. Kindly help
us by checking out your own areas. Your
help in removing items that don’t belong in
these areas is greatly appreciated.
If you see an area that needs attention, please
let us know (email [email protected]) so
we can get it on our list. We also have a
running list for things we want to do, but
may need a dedicated worker/team with the
skill set to make the repair. One such project
is the entry to the narthex, the white wood
surfaces and trim, need to be sanded and
painted. Weather and worship times and
activities determine when this project can be
accomplished.
For our clean–up, please bring gloves and
tools (like rakes, leaf blowers, tarps,
extension saws to cut branches) to help get
the job done. The fellowship and reward of
helping St. Paul’s keep the campus looking
good and running well, plus coffee and
treats, make this a tradition worth attending!
Please let us know what tasks you would like
to participate in. You may email or call the
church office or look for the sign-up sheet in
the narthex at worship the weekend prior to
cleanup. There will be Temple Talks and a
Property Team member at the November 3 &
4 worship times to answer questions.
Thank you in advance for your help! Prayer
Warriors’ prayers for our helpers and good
weather are appreciated too!

Fall Clean Up at St. Paul’s!
Saturday, November 10, 2018, the Property
Team has planned our Annual Fall cleanup.
We will gather outside the Narthex at 9 AM
and there will be coffee and donuts.
Our seasonal cleanup of our grounds is
priority. We will rake and drag leaves to pile
for pick-up, and prune and weed as needed.
Ditches adjacent to the parking lot, front and
back, need clean-up to maintain water
drainage flow. We also need to clean gutters
along the education wing side, the old
church, memorial garden, and courtyard area.
We will also remove the “Guest” signs and
posts to aid mowing and snow removal
efforts by our volunteers. The paint is peeling
from the “Guest” signs so these 4 parking
spots will be marked with stenciled “Guest”
in each parking spot. Depending on weather,
this project is also on our to-do list.
Please help us determine what other areas
need attention by cleaning up your areas and
putting items not needed or wanted in the
appropriate recycle or discard receptacles. If
in doubt, please check with the office. If
there is too much for a normal trash/recycle,
we will need to plan accordingly. We want to
keep our storage areas in order so we are
better able to use our resources. Kindly help
us by checking out your own areas. Your
help in removing items that don’t belong in
these areas is greatly appreciated.
If you see an area that needs attention, please
let us know (email [email protected]) so
we can get it on our list. We also have a
running list for things we want to do, but
may need a dedicated worker/team with the
skill set to make the repair. One such project
is the entry to the narthex, the white wood
surfaces and trim, need to be sanded and
painted. Weather and worship times and
activities determine when this project can be
accomplished.
For our clean–up, please bring gloves and
tools (like rakes, leaf blowers, tarps,
extension saws to cut branches) to help get
the job done. The fellowship and reward of
helping St. Paul’s keep the campus looking
good and running well, plus coffee and
treats, make this a tradition worth attending!
Please let us know what tasks you would like
to participate in. You may email or call the
church office or look for the sign-up sheet in
the narthex at worship the weekend prior to
cleanup. There will be Temple Talks and a
Property Team member at the November 3 &
4 worship times to answer questions.
Thank you in advance for your help! Prayer
Warriors’ prayers for our helpers and good
weather are appreciated too!

Calling all Wood Workers! Would you be willing to build faith chests to be given to our newly baptized brothers and sisters in Christ? I have the plans and the chest would need to be completed before the weekend of January 12th/13th. If you are interested or not a wood worker but know someone who would enjoy this project, please be in touch or notify the Church Office. Thanks! Sasha Makuka

Candle Decorating
Wednesday, December 5
1:00 pm
Council Room
This has been a tradition since Donald Schupp
was our pastor at St. Paul’s. It’s a Moravian
tradition. Each color on the candles represents
a church season. The “tutus” are made out of
colored tissue. Each “tutu” is precisely cut by
hand.
It’s a reverent tradition held by many of our
long-time members, especially when we sing
“Silent Night” on Christmas Eve.
This is a true labor of LOVE!
This event is not just for the ladies, men and
families are welcome! If you have questions,
please contact Joy Lynch.
St. Paul’s Christmas
Post Office
Beginning the weekend of November 24/25,
St. Paul’s Post Office will be open in the
Narthex for the Christmas season. This will
allow members to “mail” their Christmas card
greetings to other members by simply dropping
their cards unstamped in the Narthex mail box.
We will then separate the cards by name and
make them available for pick up in the
Narthex. THE CARDS WILL NOT BE
MAILED.
This is a way for members to send other
members their greetings without incurring the
expense of postage. It’s up to you, of course,
but you may want to consider spending your
“savings” by donating the amount you saved to
the Lutheran Disaster Response - Hurricane
Relief.
Please remove all seasonal
decorations from
the cemetery by
November 25.
Thank you.

Information Needed
Are you a veteran? Please be part of our Veterans Weekend celebration, November 10 and 11, honoring all who have served . Bring in a picture of yourself in the service. The photo will be scanned and returned to you. Also, please include a brief job description and where you were stationed (ex: Platoon Sergeant Cav. Viet Nam).
Contact the church office or Pat Headrick with any questions. You can also email photos to [email protected].

Bev Grazioli, [email protected] 856-912-2408
*BARK DOG is an original creation for St Paul’s Sunday School. It may not be used except in conjunction with St. Paul’s SS.

Dear Members and
Friends:
On All Saints’
Sunday we will sing
the familiar hymn
For All the Saints (note first two verses
below). We’ll name all from the St. Paul’s
community who have died since last All
Saints’ Sunday. We’ll give thanks to God
for those who have gone before us, for the
legacy they bequeathed to us. St Paul’s is
now in its 151st year! On Reformation
Sunday we burned the mortgage,
celebrating another milestone blessing.
Just think of Miriam Prickett’s gracious gift
to the church in May that made it possible
sooner than we would have expected. Just
think of all the people – thousands probably
– who have shared a portion of their
treasure through 151 years to make the
whole of this congregation possible!
For all the saints who from their labors rest,
who thee by faith before the world
confessed,
thy name, O Jesus, be forever blest.
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Thou wast their rock, their fortress, and
their might;
thou, Lord, their captain in the well-fought
fight;
thou, in the darkness drear, their one true
light.
Alleluia!
