Meeting the life needs of children with medical complexity is the bedrock of The Childrenrsquos Institute We have been building on the strength of this mission for 114 years Today we deliver a highly specialized continuum of services to children and families in a way that no one else can

Led by a visionary board of directors our talented staff cultivate a remarkable environment for kids and families to thrive We partner with other leaders in healthcare education and social services to better serve these amazing kids And unwavering support from the regionrsquos philanthropic leaders and community of donors empowers us to meet evolving needs The Make an Amazing Difference Campaign is just the most recent example of what The Childrenrsquos Institute can achieve With your help we anticipate reaching our $12 million goal by November 2016

During the past year The Childrenrsquos Institute has brought innovative programs and services to our Hospital The Day School and Project STAR Our new state-of-the-art inpatient Behavioral Health Unit treats children with urgent behavioral health needs who also have a developmental disability or a chronic or complex medical

condition We are filling a critical void by offering family-centered treatment for both physical and mental health disorders

The Day Schoolrsquos Transition Program emphasizes the importance of self-sufficiency for our students Expanding and intensifying our already extensive transition services will help students and their families prepare for life after school and into adulthood

Project STARrsquos growing Family Visitation Program encourages reunification and permanency An inclusive approach provides a safe nurturing atmosphere for both children and parents to develop skills needed to be a healthy family

medical and therapyservices The Childrenrsquos Institute provides individualized effective medical and therapy services to inpatients and outpatients Itrsquos the only hospital in the region with a Pediatric Specialty Program designation by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) Our Hospital works to restore quality to lives by using new techniques and technology to produce better therapeutic interventions

The Day School is one of only 26 schools in the country recognized by the National Commission for the Accreditation of Special Education Services Serving nearly 200 students from 60 school districts and seven western Pennsylvania counties it is also designated as one of just 30 MOVEreg International Model Sites worldwide
