The Charger Chronicles Immaculate Conception School Parent Newsletter October 1, 2019 Volume 10 Issue 1 From the Principal Dear Parents, It is hard to believe that it is already October. I pray that you and your children have had a good start to the school year. This school year 2019-20, Archbishop Aymond reminds us that Catholic schools remain essential places for the evangelization of the young, and that it is the duty of all of us--administrators, faculty and parents, to be examples of faith and of Christ. Our ministry as parents and educators invites us to grow and to help our children grow in a deeper relationship with Jesus and to live his values. The month of October provides many wonderful opportunities to be examples of Christ and to grow in our faith. October is “National Kindness Month” and like we remind the students here at school, we’d ask that you reinforce at home, if you don’t have anything kind to say, say nothing at all, and pray that Jesus help teach us kindness. It costs nothing to be kind, and Jesus teaches us to love one another; this means to be kind and compassionate to one another. October is also the month of our Blessed Mother and the month of the Rosary. Sr. Michelle, FMA, visited last week, as she always does on or near the 24th of each month. She talked about our Blessed Mother and how she is our protector and we can pray to her for help in our daily struggles. Additionally, Sr. Florine, FMA, spoke to the students this morning, as she will continue to do so at the beginning of each month. Sr. Florine also spoke about our Blessed Mother, the Rosary, and how very important it is to pray as a family. Students will be saying the Rosary in religion classes this month, but I’d also ask that you find opportunities to pray and say the rosary as a family. I know how busy life is, but as parents, we are the first and primary teachers of Faith. I too, sometimes need a gentle reminder, that as a parent, I am the first and primary model of Faith. Although my children are grown now, they also now, have grown up problems and challenges, and more than ever need me to be an example of faith, to continue to model and encourage them to pray daily and have faith that God will comfort them and guide them through life’s ups and downs. This month is also our St. Jude Service Learning Project. Each Tuesday morning, during assembly, representatives from St. Jude Research Hospital and Hyman Bartolo Construction are visiting and showing videos and talking with the students about St. Jude Hospital, the patients there, as well as the construction and building of the St. Jude Dream Home. Information about this project, and our St. Jude Day on Tuesday, October 29th went home last week. Parents, grandparents and extended family are welcome to join us on the morning of the 29th to take part in this very special event. Please be reminded that school starts promptly at 7:55 a.m. Any students arriving after 7:55 are marked tardy. It is important that students start their day off on the right foot and this begins with being on time for school. Research shows that students who are perpetually late for school are less successful in school. It is the policy at ICS, that any student who receives 5 or more tardies will receive a detention. This week Mrs. Gauthe, Dean of Students, is talking individually with students in grades 1st-7th, who have been perpetually tardy, reminding them of the importance of arriving on time and reminding them of our tardy policy. We are very excited this year to be celebrating 95 years of Immaculate Conception’s Church and School, and we are busy preparing for the 95th Gala Celebration, “Le Bon Vivant” which will be held on Friday, November 15th at the Four Columns.
