ULS Air Adventures Asia is proud to present the latest The Challenger Ultra Light, The XL-65. Amphibious* Equipped Sport plane. This aircraft is the pinnacle ofaffordable two seat aviation.Without doubt, the XL-65 has taken light sport aviation up another notch to secure it position as the most popular aircraft in it’s class.

The Challenger XL-65

The highly popular Challenger Light Sport XL-65 is a high power, high lift aircraft designed for Amphibious Floats, heavy loads and highdensity altitudes. Absolutelyperfect in a tropical environment with hot sunny days. A 29.5ftmidsized wing, a power package with 30% more thrust, re-designed and beefed up landing gear carriage assembly and standard 20 US

gallon wing tanks, combine to allow a gross weight increase to 1060lbs. As an additional benefit the wing tanks also allow for the creation of a baggage compartment in thefuselage, behind the passenger seat. The XL-65 is powered by the ASTM certified 65hp Rotax 582 engine. The new Challenger Light SportXL-65 is the most dramatic step

forward in the evolution ofChallenger aircraft. The aircraft incorporates numerous designenhancements, driven by customer inputs. The goals were to make them easier to fly, more ergonomic, more rugged, carry a greaterpayload further and faster. All while keeping the price at extremelyaffordable levels, even with engine and instrumentation included.

Well Proven DesignContinuously refined for 3 decades and with more than 4,000 airplanes sold world wide and hundreds of thousands of hours of flight, the Challenger is a truly proven design with an enviable safety record. The light plane industry has produced a number of excellent designs over the years. All of the manufacturers rely on feedback and troubleshooting by the public to refine their designs. By remaining focused on a single de-sign, rather than constantly introducing new models for marketing hype, the Challenger has been refined to a much greater degree of performance and reliability.Challenger owners don’t have to deal with the inevitable glitches that are inherent in totally new or short-lived designs.

Spectacular PerformanceThe Challenger’s large wing and low empty weight combine to deliver exceptionalpayload and STOL performance (short takeoff and landing) on amphibious floats. The capability to handle a direct crosswind of

ULS Challenger XL-65 versitility

20 mph, easily equals or betters that ofconventional airplanes. As well, theChallenger has one of the widest speedenvelopes of any recreational airplane. The 4 to 1 speed range from 32 mph (stall speed) to 110 mph (VNE), far exceeds the speed range of standard Cessnas and Pipers. This extraordinary envelope gives you the best of both worlds, a high end for cross country trips and a safe and forgiving low speed capability for that magic low and slow ultralight experience.

Unrestricted VisibilityMost conventional airplanes obstruct your view. The high, complex instrument panel blocks the view over the nose. Low wings block out the earth below while high wings block out the sky above. In a conventional high wing the pilot flies blind in the turns. The Challenger’s tandem seating places the pilot ahead of the wing for magnificenthelicopter style visibility in all directions, even in the turns.

Factory Built AirframeThe Challenger’s airframe is built by the factory to ensure a professionally crafted, airworthy airplane built to the highest spec. Our final assembly and technical operation is run and managed by a ‘Factory trained’technician who has over 10 years experience.

Established Customer SupportAir Adventures Asia has a solid, technical support team and is proud to be in partner-ship with a long established manufacturer (30 years) with a proven track record. ULS Air Adventures Asia is the prime dealer for regional sales, service and support. You can be confident that parts, advice and help are available now and will continue to be in the future.

Low Cost To Own And OperateA brand new, fully equipped Challenger costs about the same as a car. Not a house, like conventional airplanes. In fact, a Challenger, complete with amphibious floats* costs far less than the floats alone for a Cessna 185!

At around USD $20-$25 an hour the Chal-lenger is extremely inexpensive to operate and maintenance costs are but a fraction of a general aviation aircraft. In today’s challenging economy, the financial aspects of aircraft ownership are more critical than ever. The XL-65 is lest than a quarter of the cost of a typical AULA/S-LSA aircraft. The low acquisition cost and very low operating and maintenance costs, mean owners can afford to fly as often as they wish. Challenger owners rarely pause to think how much it will cost to go for a flight.XL-65 Owners also emphasize the philosophy that recreational aircraft should be bothaffordable to acquire and affordable tooperate/ maintain.

Multiple levels of excitementThe versatility go high and fast, or low and slow, the capability to operate from saltwater or fresh water environments, grass strips, concrete runways, the ability to fly with the doors off like a roadster with the top down and the unmatched visibility from both seats, combine to put the fun back into flying. In this tropical environment, the highpower-to-weight ratio and low wing loading make the Challenger a marvelous choice for a floatplane. Aircraft with less than 300 hp are rarely seen operating on amphibious floats, yet the Challenger handles them with ease. For that extra breath of fresh air, the doors can be removed in a minute or two, and you can enjoy open cockpit aviation, like a biplane.

The Challenger II 582 Premium Power Packis centered zon the Rotax 582 UL DCDI engine and includes everything you need to produce thrust. This engine has numerous internalimprovements to enhance reliability, the benefit of Rotax’s substantial real world service experience with the initial generation of engines. The engine also comes complete with dual electronic ignition, two spark plugs per cylinder, dual carbs, impulse fuel pump, air filter and muffler. Custom exhaust mounts

are used. To attach this engine to the air-frame we include the new motor mount with eight Lord Mounts to isolate the airframe from vibration. The 582 is liquid-cooled via an engine-driven water pump and thermostat so of course we include a complete radiator setup with everything you need to go flying - no trips to the hardware store, or the engineering department! The radiator mounts in front of the engine on top of the wing parallel to the airflow rather than perpendicular so it cre-

ates the least possible drag. It is quite large to avoid overheating on even the warmest days.An integrated generator produces AC current (12V 170W) which is converted by the sup-plied regulator/rectifier to 12V DC (nominal). Electric start is standard with our package. The reduction drive is the preferred “tall”2.6-to-1 unit which turns a 60” prop.60 Inch, Ground adjustable, 3 blade prop. The Air Adventures Asia Rotax 582 Power Pack comes with the top-of-the-line Warp Drive 3-blade ground adjustable unit with

machined aluminum hub and three carbon fiber blades with wide tips. The prop is sup-plied as standard with full kit. We include nickel leading edges as standard for protec-tion from spray, slush and rain. The included 2.6-to-1 reduction drive is per-fectly suited for the Warp Drive 3 blade prop, providing clearance for a longer 60” diameter. The 60” props turn at 2,100 rpm in cruise which is much more efficient than the 2,600 rpm rate of the shorter reduction drive. Deci-bels are down and the lower pitched sound is quite pleasing. Oil injection.ULS Air Adventures Asia offers a Rotax 582 Oil Injection Kit as standard. This includes oil injection pump and control as well as two oil tanks which mount on either side of the rad. In this setup the owner puts pure gas in the fuel tank instead of pre-mixing with oil. The metering system, based upon engine rpm and throttle position, delivers exactly the right amount of oil to each cylinder via diffuser jets in the intake manifold sockets. The tanks are quite large and contain enough oil for 10-12 hours of flight! The oil tanks have individual sight gauges and both gauges are visible from either side of the airplane. The oil tanks are designed with outlets front and rear and they are cross-linked so that oil is available in all flight attitudes.IMPORTANT - June 2006: Rotax has certified the 582 UL engine used in the Challenger II to meet the US Light Sport Aircraft category ASTM standards. This puts the 582 right alongside the 912 and 914.
