Chairman's Message

Welcome to the fourth production of our 2004 Season. As promised, each of the previ­ous ones has been decidedly different, and we hope that you are enjoying the varietyof dramatic styles being brought to you by the Cayman Drama Society, and will findAbsolutely Fabulous a refreshing contrast to last month's hugely successful produc­tion of Death ofa Salesman.

Ian Morgan has been a stalwart on stage and behind the scenes for the CDS in recentyears and we welcome his transition to the director's chair for Absolutely Fabulous.Having been pushed around and shouted at by a wide range of directors in the past,Ian has obviously decided that it's time for revenge!

"AbFab"is a comedy written to poke fun at the British baby-boomer, aging-hippy gen­eration, but seems to appeal to all ages and backgrounds. Despite the challenge oftransforming a well-known television comedy to the stage, Ian's determination hascombined with the talents of a dedicated cast and crew to bring you a performancewhich is sure to have you laughing from the time the curtain rises until you enjoy yourafter-show "Stoli-Bolly".

Directors Message

It's been a year of classics for CDS - the classic story of Anne of Green Gables, theclassic horror of Dracula-Lucy's Kiss and classic American theatre with Death of aSalesman. So what "classic" could possibly follow this trio?

Absolutely Fabulous is a modern British TV comedy classic which has been runningon the BBC for about 10 years and is now regarded as one of the best examples ofmodern comedy in the UK. Edina Monsoon is a single mother who owns a PRcompany and likes to "hob-nob" with the celebrities, taking in all that can be takenfrom a "celebrity" lifestyle. Patsy is Edina's best friend and a fashion editor who hasbeen on a "liquid" diet since 1974. Then there is Saffron, Edina's long sufferingteenage daughter, who at times has to be the mother of the relationship.

It has been a very great challenge for my directorial debut to try and bring this TVcomedy on to the Cayman stage. It has been adapted very well and I could not havestaged it without all the help I have received. So, thanks to Peter and Penny Phillips,Colin Wilson, Niamh and Richard Johnson, the cast and crew and my much sufferingproducer, Cathy Wight, without whom I would have gone insane.

So enjoy, laugh and thank you for "Sharing the Show".

SaffronAt 16 years old Teri is already a veteran stage performer withmany roles under her belt. Her most recent role was that ofRobyn (singing Day by Day) in Godspellat St. Joseph'sCollege in New York. At CDS she's had roles in Oliver,Robin Hood, Wizard ofOz and last year as Queen Isabella(the evil child queen) in Magna Carta: The Musical TrialofKing John. Other roles outside of CDS include Miranda inShakespeare's Tempestperformed in New York and asTzeitel in Fiddler on the Roofat St Ignatius School inCayman. This fall Teri will be studying musical theater inMiami at New World School of the Arts and is a recipient of aCultural Scholarship from the Cayman Islands Government(which her parents are very grateful for!)

EdinaCaroline was REALLY excited, no REALLY darlings... when itwas announced that CDS would be doing a production ofAbFab...one of her favourite programs. Shy and retiring asshe is, Caroline did her very best to 'become' the not exactlyshy and retiring Eddy....and suffered greatly for her art in theprocess...she has the bruises to prove it sweetie darlings l !!

Looked forward to playing Patsy so that she could learn tosmoke again. Patsy's other character attributes come verynaturally and she wondered if it was type casting!

New to Grand Cayman and the Playhouse, he has appeared intheatres as an actor and mime in South Florida, Utah, Colorado,Vermont, Alabama, Wyoming, New York and New Mexico. "Beingon stage is the most effective and least expensive therapy that Iknow of". Barry can be found at Kennedy Gallery most days.Best "snog" on this side of the Atlantic!

JustinBill said when he joined CDS 3 years ago that he didn't want tobe typecast! He has been an old priest, Little Voice's boyfriend,and ambitious Cardinal and now Justin ...what could be moredifferent!

BubbleQuite a traditional bore actually, who likes doing traditionallyboring things like reading and watching television. The characterBubble has meant quite and interesting change of pace. Firstperformed with the playhouse in Magna Carta as part of theirillustrious chorus and is slowly realizing that being a part of theProspect Playhouse means sacrificing a lot of things, like one'ssanity!

PennyEnjoying being Penny Caspar-Morse! A lively and colourfullady!!! Delighted to be part of CDS and look forward to manyproductions as I love being on stage. Only new to the island butnot to theater. I am from N. Carolina where I was a involved inEncore Theater Company acting in Daddy's Dying who'sGot The Will, Who 5 Afraid of Virginia Wolf, The Night ofJanuary 23rd, and Steel Magnolias. Marshall-(From July 29-August7)Comparisons have been made with Johnny Depp - but mainly byCaroline and mainly to Peter's detriment so we will not repeat thedetails here. Peter participated in several CDS productions in thelast century and since his return to the island has had rolesin Lovers at Versailles and Anne ofGreen Gables.

SondraThis is Elaine's FIrst production with CDS, and her secondproduction ever. She landed the lead female role in last years"Bachelor Boy" at the Harquail Theatre and is pleased to beplaying yet another neurotic, over the top female. She is achiropractor at the Chrissie Tomlinson Hospital. That fact combinedwith her own neuroses have led some friends to qUip that perhapsthis role is "art imitating life"?
