Pray for the Sick of our Parish

Society of St. Vincent de Paul St. Daniel the Prophet Conference

In the Gospel, Jesus says: “There is no need for them to go away; give them some food yourselves,” and taking the five loafs and two fish, he blest them and gave them to the disciples to feed the crowd. Know that your gift to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul to help those living in poverty touches

many lives just like the loaves and fishes. If you or someone you know is having a hard time financially and could use some help, we might be able to assist you/them. Please call us at 312-608-6517.

Recent Donations

In every parish there are certain books, liturgical vessels, garments, and other objects that are essential. For example, it is hard to imagine Mass without a chalice, ciborium or candles. There are many other objects that are not essential per se but they can be really helpful. Since I was ordained in 2013, I used a book stand for the Roman Missal. I am 6’01 tall, so a book stand helps me a lot because the Missal on a book stand is higher than on the altar. Besides, English is not my first language, so I realized it is much better to read a text when the Missal in on a book stand than lying flat on the

altar. I shared that with a several people when I came to St. Daniel. One day, I entered the sacristy and I found a beautiful, brand new, bronze book stand. I have to admit, I have no idea who bought that stand but whoever you are, dear anonymous donor, please know that your generous donation is greatly appreciated by Fr. Peter and myself. Moreover, one wonderful and very devoted couple, do-nated to our parish a brand new Roman Missal. The old one is literally falling apart. We will bless both the new Roman Missal and the book stand on Saturday, August 15th at 5:00 PM Mass. On behalf of the parish I thank you for your generosity!

Bilingual Mass

I would like to invite you for a bilingual Vigil Mass for the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This year the solemnity is not a holy day of obligation. However, if you want to attend the Mass in honor of the BVM, there are three Masses to choose from. First, bilingual Vigil Mass, on August 14th at 7:00 PM, second on August 15th at 7:30 AM in English, and on August 15th at Noon in Polish. Please do not forget to register earlier.

Parish Maintenance Update

This past week we got a few things done. Our clogged gutter on top of the sacristy roof was thoroughly cleaned and now is ready to take all the rain from the sky. Also, this past week we experienced problems with one of our AC units on the roof of the rectory. This is a second time it stopped working since I got here. We had to call for a specialist again who changed a motor and the thermostat. Now the AC unit works but I found out that it is 22 years old. The specialist said that normal life spam for these unites is somewhere between 17 and 20 years. We are past that time already and we will try to fix it until it cannot be fixed anymore. I hope this AC Unit will still serve us but I am aware that one day we need to replace it. Maybe I should get a clay piggy bank and start saving now God bless you all!

The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Catholics and many other Christians celebrate the feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This significant feast day recalls the spiritual and physical departure of the mother of Jesus Christ from the earth, when both her soul and her body were taken into the presence of God. Because the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary falls on a Saturday, August 15th, it is not considered a Holy Day of Obligation. However it will be celebrated on Thursday, August 14th at a bilingual Vigil Mass at 7:00 PM on Friday, August 15th at 7:30 AM in English and at Noon in Polish. You will need to register for the 7PM and Noon masses on our website, stdan.net.

Health Quest - Evaluate Your First Aid Kit. Many minor injuries can be treated by oneself, if the right materials are available. This is a good time to purchase a first aid kit, add to one you already have, or even make one yourself. Store in a convenient place, away from small children, and maintain its contents up-to-date. Keep one in the car as well. Suggested items include: • Various bandages, gauzes and adhesive tapes • Antiseptic wipes • Instant cold compress • Flashlight and batteries • Emergency phone numbers, including health

care providers Do you know the location of a first aid kit at your place of employment? Are its contents up-to-date? For a complete list of items, go to www.redcross.org. Your Parish Nurses

THE CALL TO PRAYER Let us pause to take time out for a few minutes of prayer. The Lord be with you. And with your spirit. A reading from the holy Gospel according to: Matthew When Jesus heard of the death of John the Baptist, he withdrew in a boat to a deserted place by himself. The crowds heard of this and followed him on foot from their towns. When he disembarked and saw the vast crowd, his heart was moved with pity for them, and he cured their sick. When it was evening, the disciples approached him and said, “This is a deserted place and it is already late; dismiss the crowds so that they can go to the villages and buy food for themselves.” Jesus said to them, “There is no need for them to go away; give them some food yourselves.” But they said to him, “Five loafs and two fish are all we have here.” Then he said, “Bring them here to me,” and he ordered the crowds to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, he said the blessing, broke the loaves, and gave them to the disciples, who in turn gave them to the crowds. They all ate and were satisfied, and they picked up the fragments left over—twelve wicker baskets full. Those who ate were about five thousand men, not counting women and children. Reflection Question: Many times in the gospels we hear of Jesus going off to a “deserted place by himself” in order to pray. Where do you find solace and quiet to pray? Group Discussion or Meditation: Say the Our Father Concluding Prayer: Draw near to your servants, O Lord, and answer their prayers with unceasing kindness, that, for those who glory in you as their Creator and guide, you may restore what you have created and keep safe what you have restored. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen

Spontanicznie, bez wielkich zachęt ludzie wkładają do puszek i koszyków mniejsze i większe sumy pieniędzy.

A jed-nak! Tam, gdzie jest miłość - wszystko jest możliwe. Wiele razy słyszeliśmy o międzynarodowych konferencjach, które miały pomóc w rozwiązaniu problemów najbiedniejszych krajów świata. W praktyce problemy te pozostają wciąż w rękach Kościo-łów i różnorakich organizacji, które zamiast organizować konfe-rencje i rozmowy, po prostu pracują wśród najbardziej potrzebują-cych i pukają do drzwi tych, którzy mogą udzielić wsparcia. Pan Jezus powiedział do apostołów: „Wy dajcie im jeść". Dziś te same słowa mówi do nas.
