LENTEN MISSION 2016

FOURTH SUNDAY OF LENT First Reading: Joshua 5:9a, 10-12 Joshua and the Israelites celebrated Passover in Jericho. This was the first time they had eaten the produce of the promised land. After this, there was no more bread sent from heaven because they were able to eat the yield of the land. Second Reading: 2 Corinthians 5:17-21 Paul tells us that anyone living in Jesus is a new creation because God has reconciled with us through Christ. As an ambassador for Jesus, Paul implores that the Corin-thians be reconciled to God through Jesus. Gospel: Luke 15:1-3, 11-32 The Pharisees grew disgusted with Jesus because of his compassion toward sinners. So Jesus told them a story of a son who squandered his inheritance. When a famine broke out, he returned home and asked his father to be-come a hired hand. His father instead welcomed him with a joyful celebration, just as God is overjoyed when a sin-ner returns to him.

Vocations Crucifix This Lent we are once again doing the vocations crucifix project. We have a crucifix and prayer packets for each of the 4 Masses for all the weeks of Lent. Please sign up for a week using the sign up sheets in the back of each church. When your week comes, get the crucifix (corresponding to the Mass you attend) and prayer packet from the sacristy. Return the cross to that same Mass the following week and keep the prayer materials. Pray for vocations to the priesthood and religious life, especially from our parishes!

Women’s Guild Our next WG meeting is scheduled for Monday, March 7th @ 6:30 p.m. in the St. Christopher Church Hall. Pope Francis has designated 2016 as the "Year of Mercy." He has requested that we reflect on & practice corporate and spiritual works of mercy so that we may "enter more deeply into the heart of the Gospel where the poor have a special experience of God's mercy." What better way to practice "Works of Mercy" than to help our Tiverton Seniors this Easter Season! The Women’s Guild has reached out to our Tiverton Senior Center regarding this initiative & they are delighted! That being said, we will provide “Easter Gift Bags” to our Seniors. Suggested items include: postage stamps, all occasion cards, writing pens, toothpaste & tooth brushes, dental floss, Kleenex tissues, gift cards in small denominations (CVS, Rite-Aid, Stop & Shop, Wal-Mart etc.), books, un-scented hand or body lotion, and of course, assorted candy/goodies! Our goal is to make 30 Gift Bags for our Seniors who quite often are forgotten/overlooked. This is a small ges-ture that will provide smiles/happiness to them. Let us bring them the warmth of our presence and our friend-ship! Thank you all for your kindness & participation in this project! Kindly contact Pat Karp 816-5428 or Kary Miksis 585-6488 for questions.

April calendars….will be available after all Masses on the weekends of March 12th and 13th, and March 19th and 20th.
