Third Sunday after Mass
Dear Friends from SS. Peter & Paul,
St. Ann & Holy Rosary,
We are in awe and so grateful for your generous donations
to The Crossing in May. We estimated all the goods were almost $1,500.00!!!
So many families in need in our community
will be blessed by your extravagant
generosity.
Blessings,
In our modern culture, when we hear
the word “prophet”, we can easily associate
that with someone who foretells the future.
Therefore, the primary purpose of the
prophets in the Hebrew Scriptures was to
foretell the coming of the Christ.
And while that may be partly true
– some of them did foretell of future
events, even the coming of the Christ –
that was not their primary role. The
primary role of the prophet is to hold a
mirror up to those in their church, their
country, their community. They are
first and foremost truth-tellers. It’s what
made them so unpopular.
Amos was most definitely one of
those. He didn’t mix his words. “Woe to the
complacent in Zion! Lying upon beds of
ivory, stretched comfortably on their couches.
They are not made ill by the collapse of
(Israel). Therefore, now they shall be the
first to go into exile…” Hmmm. Can’t imagine
he made a lot of friends with the upper crust
with those words.
In fact, they make us feel uncomfortable
as well, don’t they? And they should. Our
beds may not be made of ivory, but we
stretch plenty comfortably upon our couches.
We may not anoint ourselves with the best
oils, but we use the best soaps and shampoos.
We may not drink wine from bowls, but I’ve
got plenty of glasses in my house.
As best I can understand – I don’t
think Amos is angry at leisure or riches,
however. I think what makes him angry is
the complacency often associated with it.
That those riches and leisure activities
can all too easily be aimed to suit
me alone and not serve the larger
community.
Recall, brothers and sisters,
that we are a pilgrim people. We are
on the move. We have not arrived
nor are we settled. We have not
reached the goal line yet. And so, as
Paul invites us – we have to compete
well for the faith. We have to pursue
righteousness. And we have to lay hold of
eternal life. These are all active phrases –
not passive ones! We cannot lay hold of
anything nor pursue anything if we are more
caught up in our own complacency and lei-
sure. And this is what Amos is railing
against, as best as I can tell. Our eyes, as
the Gospel invites us, must move beyond
our own selves and see the poor lying at our
doorstep.
Who are the poor in your life? Where
are they? Or are we simply not seeing them
because we are too caught up in stretching
comfortably on our couches?

Sunday Hb 1:2-3; 2:2-4/2 Tm 1:6-8, 13-14/Lk 17:5-10
Join us next week as our readings’ focus is: “Daily prayer is essential in order to be open to the workings of the Holy Spirit.” The Holy Spirit gives us the grace, gifts and strength needed to put our faith into practice. We, in turn, must cooperate with the Holy Spirit moving within us so that our lives may bear good fruit for God. Let us set aside time to pray each day in order to be attentive and responsive to the Spirit’s promptings in our daily lives.
Rite of Calling
Young men and women from our three linked parishes who are preparing for the sacrament of Confirmation are taking part in the Rite of Calling this weekend at Holy
Rosary parish. Please keep all the confirmandi in your prayers as they open their hearts to receive the Holy Spirit this November in the sacrament.
Volunteers Needed
Heartland Hospice is currently looking for new friendly visitor volunteers to join our team. All training is provided. For more information, please contact our volunteer coordinator Hollie Moe at (800) 366-1232.
Mass of Anointing
The three linked parishes of Ss. Peter & Paul, St. Ann and Holy Rosary will be having a Mass of Anointing on Thursday, October 13, beginning at 5:30 p.m. at Ss. Peter & Paul. This is a wonderful opportunity for those who struggle with serious illness in their life. If you struggle with a serious illness of any kind, please come to this sacrament of healing. In preparation, please sign up on the vestibule of any of our three linked parishes. We will have nametags prepared for those planning to receive the Sacrament. While signing up in advance is helpful, you are more than welcome to join us in prayer that evening even without signing up.
Email Bible Study
Are you interested in being part of a bible study – but don’t have the time to meet weekly? Check this out…
This fall, we will have a six-week study on the books of Ruth and Esther. Every week, beginning the week of October 10,
Joe Zenk will send out the assigned reading for that week along with a number of questions for you to an-swer on your own. You won’t have to share them with anyone else as they are for your own spiritual growth. Then, at the end of the six weeks, the group is invited together to discuss their thoughts from the books we’ve read. Don’t want to come to these gatherings? You don’t have to. It’s that easy.
Interested? Sign up through Kim, Laura or Sue in our parish offices. Either call or send them an email. Look for your first email assignment the week of October 10.

Sunday Social
Sunday Social is our weekly gathering after the 9am Liturgy that invites parishioners and visitors to linger after Mass for food and fellowship. This gathering features coffee, juice and donuts.
Families from our parish host the social each week. This involves setting up the coffee maker before Mass, going down to Voland Hall right after communion to pour juice, helping to serve donuts, then helping with cleanup. If you would like to host a Sunday, please contact Brian Murphy at 894-1614.
Cemetery Reminder
Fall cleanup begins soon. Please remove all spring and summer artificial arrangements by October 10. Those remaining will be disposed of. Thank you.
Construction Updates
Elevator installation will begin early next week.
Aluminum frames will be installed in the windows and doors.
Ceramic tile is going in on the bathroom floors.
Prep work for installing the rose window will take place.
Ministry Schedules
A few changes were made to the ministry schedules and if you provided the parish office with an email address a new one has been sent to you via email. Other schedules can be picked up in the back of church. Please disregard the old schedule.
If you’d like to receive them via email, or if you did not receive one, please contact the office.
Congratulations
Baptism is the first of the seven sacraments by which one becomes a member of the Church and a new creation in Christ. We welcome Jack Roland, son of Mary & Jeff Jens and Beau Joseph, son of Lindsey & Derek Bries, into our faith community.
We congratulate them and pray they may live and grow in the knowledge of Christ’s love. Welcome to the family of God!

Words From Heaven
This is the message that has been reported to come from Mary, the mother of Jesus, out of Medjugorje in Bosnia. These apparitions are not officially approved by the Catholic Church, but the Vatican acknowledges the messages do not conflict with Catholic teachings. They contain Motherly advice for all her children. It’s up to us if we want to listen and apply to life.
September 2nd Message for non-believers
"Dear children, according to the will of my Son and my motherly love, I am coming to you, my children, but especially to those who have not yet come to know the love of my Son. I am coming to you who think of me and who invoke me. To you, I am giving my motherly love and I am carrying the blessing of my Son. Do you have pure and open hearts, and do you see the gifts, the signs of my presence and love? My children, in your earthly life, be led by my example.
My life was pain, silence and immeasurable faith and trust in the Heavenly Father. Nothing is by chance: neither pain, nor joy, nor suffering, nor love. All of these are graces which my Son grants to you and which lead you to eternal life. Of you, my Son asks for love and prayer in Him. As a mother I will teach you: to love and to pray in Him means to pray in the silence of your soul and not only reciting with your lips; it is even the least beautiful gesture done in the name of my Son - it is patience, mercy, the acceptance of pain and sacrifice done for the sake of another. My children, my Son is looking at you. Pray that you also may see His face and that it may be revealed to you. My children, I am revealing to you the only and real truth. Pray that you may comprehend it and be able to spread love and hope; that you may be able to be apostles of my love. In a special way, my motherly heart loves the shepherds. Pray for their blessed hands. Thank you."
DIRECTORY PICTURES If you choose to have your free picture sent to the parish rather than mailed to you, you can pick it up at the parish office anytime during office hours.
