THE MASS OF THE TWENTY - SEVENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME OCT. 6, 2019

From Father Michael: Ordinary Time during Fall

As the season of summer begins to wane and the first

signs of autumn appear, one may notice the liturgies

of the Church begin to shift as well. In the readings

and prayers of Sunday Mass there is a change of fo-

cus and attention. Where the scriptures of summer

spoke of discipleship and the way a follower of Christ

should live, the readings of autumn begin to point us

to the end times and the return of Christ in glory.

Notice that a sense of urgency begins to creep into

the readings and texts of the Sunday Mass. In just a

few weeks, we will hear the Gospel in which Jesus

asks, "When the Son of Man comes, will he find faith

on the earth?" (Luke 18, the Twenty-ninth Sunday in

Ordinary Time, October 21).

These references to the eschaton (the term theologi-

ans use for the "end times") begin to enter more and

more into the readings and texts of the liturgy. As the

liturgical year winds down, we are pointed toward the

end of time will when the kingdom of God be estab-

lished in its entirety. This is the kingdom that God es-

tablished in Eden, which was altered by original sin.

This is the kingdom of God about which John the

evangelist wrote when he described a "new heaven

and a new earth" (Revelation 21:1).

These themes will dominate the Sunday liturgy until

we celebrate the end of the liturgical year and the

great solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ the King on

the last Sunday of Ordinary Time. The closer we get to

this solemnity, the more we will be drawn into the life

we are meant to live through our Baptism: the life of

joy and happiness, which has been the promise to

those who are faithful since the creation of the world.-Written by D. Todd Williamson. Copyright © 2006, Archdiocese of Chica-

go, Liturgy Training Publications; 1-800-933-1800; www.LTP.org.

Questions of the Week:

Adults: When have you done more than was

required of you in the service of others?

Children: When have you done something

extra for someone in your family without be-

ing asked? What did you learn from this?

"2019 ROSARY RALLY AMERICA NEEDS FATIMA”

This year is the 102nd anniversary of the miracle of the sun: On

October 13, 1917, Our Lady performed a miracle witnessed by

70,000 people, including atheists, communists, and anti-

Catholics. Some of them converted. The 2019 Public Square

Rosary Rallies will remind the person on the street that conver-

sion is possible. America desperately needs the Rosary, and our

Lady's saving message of Fatima. The goal is to have 20,000

communities in our nation publicly pray the rosary for or nation.

It will be exciting to have Salix be one of those communities!

Please..PLEASE join us at the shelter on the Salix city park at

noon on Saturday October 12th to pray the rosary to or Lady of

Fatima..... "
