Dear Friends of St. Ann School,
As I write to you it is a Tuesday. That may not seem so special to
you, but to our school it is a terrific day.
For the Pre K and Kindergarten students, it is “Talking Tuesday”.
While it is true that these students talk everyday, it is especially
true today. The food service personnel, the teachers, and
volunteer parents always have a big grin on their face for this
magical moment. Children are told to think of something
important to say and to them come to the microphone and share
their message with those gathered for lunch. This builds
confidence and character. Some students just about tell us that
they love their family while more vocal students keeping coming
back to the line and tell us about their Halloween costume, what
they did with Grandpa, or what movie they are going to see.
On the other end of the scale, grades 5 through 8 students are
invited to Study Club. It meets twice a month on Tuesdays. No,
it is not detention for those who do not do their homework. It is a
group of young people who gather to learn how to get more out of
the time they put into studying. Our first meeting had us
discussing and developing time management skills. Today we
will be talking about how studying actually begins in class. Our
next session will delve into the tried and true SQ3R method of
study and chunking material. The students enjoy time with
principal. They enjoy knowing that they all have the same
troubles and distractions. They are learning to laugh at
themselves and to take things in stride. Parents have reported less
drama at the kitchen table as homework is completed. It is a win-
win situation.
Thank you for your continued prayers and support.
God bless you,

PARISH NURSES CORNER ~ FLU SEASON
The Parish Nurses strongly encourage our parishioners to obtain
the flu vaccine. There are multiple locations offering this service
without an appointment. Check your local pharmacy, the municipal
health department and your doctors office for this service.
The flu shot is a safe and effective way to protect you from influ-
enza, which is a serious respiratory illness. This is recommended
for everyone from six months of age and older. It is especially im-
portant for people at higher risk of developing serious flu related
complications to get vaccinated. Those people include the follow-
ing; have certain medical conditions including asthma, diabetes, and
chronic lung disease. Are pregnant or plan to be pregnant during
this flu season. Live with or care for others who are at high risk of
developing serious flu related complications.
In addition to proper and frequent hand washing, blocking coughs
and sneezes, and staying home if you are sick, the flu shot is a safe
and effective way to protect yourself from illness.
