What is the Child Care Scholarship Program – WLC’s Signature Cause
8
Provides child care financial assistance to parents who are pursuing financial stability through higher
education and/or full-time job training
The Case for Choosing Our Signature Cause
• Education has the impact of breaking the cycle of poverty or substantially improving a family’s assets!
• Child care improves everything from social and emotional education to third grade reading scores
• Children who attend pre-k at a formalized childcare center are more likely to be prepared for kindergarten and school in general
• WIN-WIN for both parent and child because they both receive an education
9
Impact of Receiving a Child Care Scholarship?
• Bachelor's degree recipients make $21,900 more than individuals with only a high school diploma
• 70% of college graduates have employer-provided health insurance or pension plans, while only 50% percent of high school graduates have this benefit
• Parents with degrees are three times more likely to read to their kids every day than parents who haven’t finished high school
• For every female high school student who goes on to attend college, society saves $48,600 in support benefits over her lifetime
• College graduates’ employment rose 2 percent between the first quarter of 2007 and the first quarter of 2010, despite the great recession
