Review Terms

• Archetype: An original model or type after which other similar things are patterned; a prototype

• Stereotype: a widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing.

• Pilgrimage: a journey, especially a long one, made to some sacred place as an act of religious devotion: a pilgrimage to Lourdes.

Do Now

• Journal: Where would you like to take a pilgrimage? Why is this place important to you?

• Remember that “pilgrimage” does not just mean “nice vacation” – there should be something significant to this.

Examples

• Let’s look at some examples from popular TV shows and from film.

• How are archetypes/stereotypes used in these examples?

Your Own Examples

• In small groups, brainstorm and write down…– Examples of teenage

stereotypes/archetypes/roles/jobs– Examples of adult

stereotypes/archetypes/roles/jobs

• We’ll then share and discuss some of your examples with the group.

Homework

• For HW, write a 20-30 line verse description of your character.

• Look at the model for inspiration.• Remember you can affirm or refute the

stereotype of your character.
