President’s message It is my great honor and pleasure to be addressing you as President of LLAEOP. I have chosen “Through Your Example, Shine a Light” as my theme for the next two years, and am looking forward to embarking with all of you on a journey of many, many lights! Throughout my leadership roles in LLAEOP, I have seen the bright lights of those who have led before me. I have been inspired and energized through their examples and hope, through my leadership, to shine a light for those who will follow me.

Our Program Committee Chair, Janice Boyer, and members of the Program Committee have done outstanding work over the summer planning for the upcoming year. Programs will focus on individuals who are shining their lights in various ways. The committee is working on some ideas that I’m certain will entice you to attend meetings and events throughout the year.

The officers established a proposed budget for 2016-2017, and it is included in the newsletter. I’m really excited about a new budget line item for this year. We have included $100 to develop a website for LLAEOP. Stephanie Nallo, 2nd VP from Lancaster CTC, has volunteered to undertake this task, and the $100 will be used to purchase a website name.

The budget was presented to key people at a meeting on August 17, and you will be asked to vote to approve the budget at the October meeting.

As we begin a new school year, I would encourage you to be an example and let your light shine – on your colleagues, on your district’s students, on your community, on your friends and family and most importantly on yourself.

If you believe in yourself, anything is possible, so…

Simple Microsoft Office Tips that

will make you More Productive

One of the best features of PDFs are that they are not editable as a default. It’s also an irksome feature if you want

to take information out of it. Use the PDF Reflow feature in MS Word 2013. Making it uncomplicated – open a PDF with Word 2013 and it will behave like a normal Word document. Word creates a copy and opens it as a normal document as you would any other from File – Open. Make any changes…the original PDF is left intact. The conversions are not always perfect, but this is a very handy feature.

Using Cut-Paste (Ctrl-x Ctrl-v) to move text from one place on

the page to another within a Word document is fine. But try

this. Select any block of text. Press F2. You will notice that the

status bar (at the bottom of your screen) says Move to where. Place

the cursor at the location where you wish to move the block of text.

Press Enter and the selection will be moved. This feature works in

older versions of Word as well.

OCTOBER MEETING

BY YOUR EXAMPLE, SHINE A LIGHT

AND BRING A FRIEND

In conjunction with LLAEOP’s annual membership drive and this year’s President’s theme, the Program Committee and key people have decided to make the October meeting an opportunity for current members to “shine their lights” and bring a friend to the meeting. We hope you take this opportunity to encourage a co-worker to join you at the October 12 meeting at Conestoga Valley to get an idea of what LLAEOP has to offer.

As an added incentive, if you bring a friend to the October meeting, you may put your name in twice for the end-of-year gift drawing. The drawing will feature two $100 money trees again this year. Guests who ultimately become members may put their names in twice for the end-of-year money trees at the next regular meeting they attend.

Let’s shine our lights and gear up for a great year!

Membership Drive

LLAEOP has an award of which many of you may not be familiar. It’s called the Award of Merit and is presented to an LLAEOP member who has done something above and beyond and who has added to the well-being and/or benefit of the organization. Since this is a prestigious award, it is not awarded every year. As LLAEOP President, I want you to be aware of this award so you have the opportunity to bring to my attention someone you think is a worthy candidate. Please know that the presentation of the Award of Merit is solely at the discretion of the LLAEOP officers, but we value your input and suggestions. If you know someone who fits the criteria for the Award of Merit, please contact me via e-mail at: [email protected].

Have a tech tip that saves you hours, a resource that makes your day more efficient, worthwhile school news, a great recipe, a garden tip to share, or have you read a really good book lately that you want to share. Tell us about it! We want our association newsletter to be a collaboration of our members from each and every school district in our two counties. If you have any ideas or contributions that you wish to be included in the newsletter, please contact [email protected] (717) 354-1117 at Eastern Lancaster County School District.

We also are looking for our creative writers out there! If you have a short story you would like to get published or are interested in helping write articles

for the newsletter, please contact Justin.
