In this case, the parking lot was in use for the motocross event occurring the same weekend; so the Porterfield Rallycross event was pushed onto the Off-Road Short Course normally used by trophy trucks. Jaycom Services did an excellent job managing the speed and safety through creative course layout. Competitors were slowed down at the exit of high-b anked sweepers through the use of exit chicanes and slalom cones were set up over the undulating hills to prevent cars from catching too much air. As most competitors were unawa re of this turn of events, the record number of 74 competitors wa s astounding. Most of the competitors were new to the sport of rally cross and rally in general, so an off- road course designed for trucks would have been beyond the limits of their cars as well as their skills. The Sports Car Club of America sanctioning body and the title sponsor, Porterfield Brakes, would be proud to see the thoughtful course design, event management, and record turnout. San Bernadino, Calif. – Much to the surprise of the competitors, as well as the event management, Glen

Helen Raceway had forced JayCom Services to set up the rallycross on a new site. The preferred site of

the rallycross would have been an empty, dirt parking lot. In this case, the parking lot was in use for the

motocross event occurring the same weekend; so the Porterfield Rallycross event was pushed onto the

Off-Road Short Course normally used by trophy trucks.

Jaycom Services did an excellent job managing the speed and safety through creative courselayout. Competitors were slowed down at the exit of high-banked sweepers through the use of exit

chicanes and slalom cones were set up over the undulating hills to prevent cars from catching too much

air. As most competitors were unaware of this turn of events, the record number of 74 competitors was

astounding. Most of the competitors were new to the sport of rallycross and rally in general, so an off-

road course designed for trucks would have been beyond the limits of their cars as well as their skills.

The Sports Car Club of America sanctioning body and the title sponsor, Porterfield Brakes, would be

proud to see the thoughtful course design, event management, and record turnout.

The morning continued to be atypical. The forecasted sun of the inland empire was absent until

about mid-morning, which meant that the Stock 2 Wheel-Drive Class competitors were given two laps in

the fog. In addition to the unfamiliar terrain and the fog, the timing boards malfunctioned andcompetitors could not see their times. This was a triple-threat for the competitors and meant they were

driving blind in more than one sense of the word. As the morning fog burned off and competitors became

more accustomed to the

conditions, lap times

improved. Fastest lap for

the class belonged to the

front-wheel drive Dodge

Stealth of Danny Downey

at 76.4 seconds clean andan overall time of 482.197

seconds. By comparison,
