Term 1, Week 8 18 March 2019 Blakehurst Public School, Dewrang Street, Carss Park, NSW 2221 Tel: 9546 1555 Fax: 9547 1796 E-mail: [email protected] Website: blakehurst-p.schools.nsw.edu.au A Message from our Principal, Mr Cameron Smyth-Gapps GRIP Leadership Conference Recently, our School Captains and Prefects attended the GRIP Leadership Conference at Sydney Olympic Park with Miss Blewitt. The students had a wonderful day, learning about the ‘4 Character Traits of Successful Leaders’. They participated in a variety of workshops with students from other schools to build their communication and teamwork skills. Our School Leaders had the following to say about their day at the conference: ‘’One of the 4 Character Traits was called ‘Building Your Confidence with Humility’. I liked this because I get nervous and it helped me to build my confidence’’ – Amelie Akkari (School Captain) ‘’The day expanded our knowledge of how good leaders should act’’ – Christian Vasilevski (School Captain) ‘’The day was very educational. I liked learning about some of the things that great leaders do’’ – Geordie Antonopoulos (School Prefect) ‘’I liked the ‘Loud Noise Boys’ who played games with us during the break times to give us ideas on how to build our confidence as leaders’’ – Clare Cini (School Prefect) Year 6 Fundraising Team I would like to acknowledge and thank Miss Blewitt and the Parent Committee who have been busily organising fundraising opportunities for our Year 6 students. The first of these events is the Election Day Barbecue to be held at the school on Saturday 23 rd March from 8am – 2pm. We encourage all families to come up and support the school by purchasing a sausage sandwich and a drink. A letter has gone home to our Year 6 parents, asking both for volunteers on the day and donations. Any help that you can provide would be greatly appreciated and directly benefits our students and the school. School Photos Please be reminded that our School Photos will be this Thursday 21 st March. Please ensure that your child is wearing the correct summer school uniform, including black shoes. Our school has high expectations on the wearing of the school uniform at all times and this is especially important on Thursday, as the quality of the photos is impacted by what the students are wearing on the day. Your support in this matter is greatly appreciated! Regional Swimming Carnival I was very proud of the achievements made by our swimmers at the recent Zone Swimming Carnival. It is wonderful to see our school represented in the relay as well as a number of individual events at the Regional Carnival this year. I look forward to being at the Sydney Olympic Aquatic Centre tomorrow afternoon (Tuesday 19 th March) to cheer on Jovial Wang, Cadell Barnes, Ciaran Barnes and Waheb Diab as they represent Blakehurst Public School at this major sporting event. Classroom Visits I have thoroughly enjoyed working in classrooms over the past fortnight. It is wonderful to see our students so engaged in the curriculum and acquiring new knowledge and skills on a daily basis. Here is a snapshot of my most recent classroom visits!
