Steward

n.  A person who manages someone else's household. His steward arranged for the roof to be fixed and the garden to be planted.

Jostled

v.  Pushed or bumped against. Anne was jostled as the class rushed into the gym.

Tremor

n.  A shaking movement. People who lived hundreds of miles away still felt the tremors from the earthquake.  

Pumice

n.  A lightweight volcanic rock. Cynthia collects pumice from the slopes of the old volcano.

Throng

n.  A large crowd of people. A throng of people hurried from the parking lot to the stadium before the game started.

Rubble

n.  Pieces of broken stone or other material. The earthquake reduced the buildings to rubble.

v.  To shove out forcefully. The broken faucet spewed water all over the kitchen.

n.  A large mass of earth or snow moving down a mountain. People skiing in the mountains can be caught in an avalanche.

Glimpse

n.  A brief and incomplete look. Sam caught a glimpse of his new classroom through a window.

n.  A safe for valuables.

v.  The process of restoring something to a good condition.

n.  A two-handed jar with a narrow neck.
