Landforms and Habitat

PreK 3 created their very own Mardi Gras

float for the St. Anthony’s Mardi Gras Pa-

rade! It was an amazing float that wonder-

fully depicted Jesus’ resurrection !

It’s surely was one of the best floats in the

parade!

First grade learned about habitat and land-

forms. Landforms are a natural feature of

the earth's surface. A habitat is a natural

home or an environment.

They also had a fun president project. Stu-

dents researched about the president’s hob-

bies and other fun facts such as birth, term

of presidency, and their presidential accom-

plishments.

Madri Gras with PreK 3!

More About Jesus

PreK 4 had a lot to celebrate. They

exchanged Valentine cards on Valentine’s

Day; brought bears for the Bears on Parade,

and participated in the Madri Gras parade.

PreK4 were very busy learning their letters.

B, H, K, Q, V, and R.

They will continue to discuss Lent and learn

about Jesus’ public ministry.

Squishy Worms

3 Branches of Government

Third and fourth grade have been practicing

for the Passion Play. Both classes will por-

tray Jesus’s journey entering into Jerusalem

on a donkey on Palm Sunday to his death on

Good Friday. We then wait for his Resur-

rection on Easter Sunday.

The performance will be Wednesday, April

12, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. in the gym and Thurs-

day, April 13, 2017 at 9:00 a.m.

Mark your calendar and come see the Pas-

sion Play.

The 5th grade learned about the three

branches of government by creating a post-

er. Legislative branch makes the laws. Ex-

ecutive branch carries out the laws. Judicial

branch evaluates the laws.

Go by the 5th grade class and look at their

posters.

The seventh grade class’s main focus was

earthworms. They learned about the func-

tions of the earthworm and its organs. After

many competitive review games, the stu-

dents got the chance to dissect their own

earthworms!

“I had a lot of fun but it was a little gross,”

said Ashley Bellain.

Cub Scout of Pack 779

NJHS and Student Council attended a fun

and informative leadership convention host-

ed by District 17. The spring convention

was held at Ford Park Arena on Tuesday,

February 21, 2017. The theme was, “Dare

to Dream, Dare to Do”.

First, we participated in icebreakers. Then,

the officer schools showed their campaign

videos.

The guest speaker, Harriet Turk, talked to

us about being yourself and learning who

you are. Mrs. Turk engaged the students in

fun activities and teamwork exercises to help

make them better leaders for their schools.

Clare Coker, Kimberly Nguyen, Gabrielle

Augustine, Jasmine Martin, Ike Nwaobi,

Matthew Haynie, Bryce Tolin, and Adam

Hare presented in table talk.

It was an amazing opportunity to engage

with other students for different schools.

“It was an amazing experience for me to

grow in leadership skills,” said Ethan Gravis.

Finally, the time have come for four amaz-

ing Cubs to move on to becoming a Boy

Scout. These boys achieved Cub Scout’s

highest honor, Arrow of Light.

Congratulations to Kolbe Hughes, Louis

McIntire, Victor Sanchez, and Bryce Wiley!

Troop 232 held a crossing over ceremony at

St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica School cafe-

teria to celebrate the boys from Cubs to

Boys Scout.

It was an amazing night for all the boys.

Kolbe Hughes will join Troop 1 of Orange;

Louis, Victor, and Bryce will join Troop 232

of Nederland.

Who’s Ready for Madri Gras?

Students who are on time every day in the

month of February were invited to the No

Tardy Party. On the day of pep rally, stu-

dents who were not tardy (arrived to class

before 7:50 am) were allowed to leave class

early for the pep rally at 1:30 for some fun

with friends.

Do you want to get out of class? Just come

to school on time!

We will start over with eligibility and you

have another chance every month to attend

the No Tardy Party.

On March 3, 2017 Lady Bulldogs softball

team had their game against Legacy. A few

of the girls was nervous because it was their

very first time playing. Karrygan Anderson

hit it all the way to the outfield and made a

home run. Due to an error on the other

team, Kalina Burleson was able to make a

complete run to score for the team. Thanks

to Kiara Lange’s pitching, the other team

did not out score our team. Even though we

lost 7-4, we felt like winners.

On March 4, 2017 Lady Bulldogs had their

game against All Saints at Kelly. Our pitch-

er Kiara Lange struck four people out; she

did very well. Our backup pitchers were

Natalie Cortez and Sarina Thomas. Every-

one did an awesome job. The Lady Bulldogs

softball team won 11-7. Way to go LA-

“The Lord opened the understanding of my

unbelieving heart, so that i should recall my

sins.”

-Saint Patrick

Saint Patrick was a Christian bishop in Ire-

land during the fifth century. He is the pa-

tron saint of Ireland, however, he was not

really Irish. He was British.

Saint of the Month

Let Us Pray

I arise today

Through the strength of heaven;

Light of the sun,

Splendor of fire,

Speed of lightning,

Swiftness of the wind,

Depth of the sea,

Stability of the earth,

Firmness of the rock.

I arise today

Through God's strength to pilot me;

God's might to uphold me,

God's wisdom to guide me,

God's eye to look before me,

God's ear to hear me,

God's word to speak for me,

God's hand to guard me,

God's way to lie before me,

God's shield to protect me,

God's hosts to save me

Afar and anear,

Alone or in a mulitude.

Christ shield me today

Against wounding

Christ with me, Christ before me, Christ

behind me,

Christ in me, Christ beneath me, Christ

above me,

Christ on my right, Christ on my left,

Christ when I lie down, Christ when I sit

down,

Christ in the heart of everyone who thinks of

me,

Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks

of me,

Christ in the eye that sees me,

Christ in the ear that hears me.

I arise today

Through the mighty strength

Of the Lord of creation.
