President’s Report

Happy New Year to All!!! Trophy Show years always seem to hold more excitement!!!

Lots of chat about potential winners and who’s bringing out some good younger dogs, roll on Queensland in June.

Before then though, three Bully Walks in February, April and May and for showing our Fun Day / Members Comp in February and our Champ / Specialty Show at the end of April. Great to have two judges nominated by our members who have not judged in

Australia before.

This year with the BT Mini Club sharing a judge it will hopefully help entries for both clubs. An interlude in our Club’s busy start for the year is the South Aust weekend in

March and NSW Easter weekend. Refer to Schedules and year calendar for all our club events and interstate shows.

We also have approval from Dogs Victoria to hold Champ/Specialty Shows in October,

with Australian judges, details to follow in our next newsletter.

Looking forward to seeing everyone supporting our coming events.

Norm Jessup

Secretary’s Report

Another year is upon us and this year, with the calendar of events out in this newsletter, is proving to be a huge one for members and committee alike. With varied events we

hope to cater to everyone’s likes and interests.

The club held a Special General Meeting in December to vote on three motions. The members present voted unanimously on the motion that the club donates $150 to the Central Coast Bull Terrier Rescue. With no rescue organisation down here in Victoria, this was the least we could do, as in recent months we have had to ask for the help of Leah Faye and her brilliant crew of volunteers. We hope this small amount makes a

difference and hope to raise more funds in the future at events. With Sherri organising a jar for donations during the Christmas Members Comp, we raised a further $60 for

them. Great effort by members present.

The other two motions were defeated.

There has also been plenty of rumours flying around cyber world about the Bull Terrier Miniature Club of Victoria, including rumours about our clubs BBQ’s, luncheons, and

judges, among other things. I would just like to remind members, do not believe all that you might read on Facebook

and the like. Truth is getting out of bed while rumours are half way around the world.

The Bully v Staffy Match The long awaited return of the famous Bully v Staffy match was held at Bulla on November 16th. This day had been requested by a number of members. Unfortunately only four breeders, (bar committee members) turned up. So, with a grand total of 24 dogs entered, it was going to be a hard day for the Bullies to win. Luckily one breeder roped in many of her new puppy people and entered 11 of their home bred dogs. Remember we need you to encourage your new puppy people to come along and support these members’ comps.

Judy Clifford, a renowned Bully breeder and exhibitor had been contracted to judge the Bully members comp, with all the class winners facing off against the Staffys at the conclusion of both shows. Once the Bullies had been judged, all winners were called back into the ring. The Judge of the Staffys, Linda Szirer, Judy Clifford, and a referee if needed, judged what they thought to be the best animal on the day. The winner received 10 points to their breeds’ total. The best dog on the day according to the two judges was a Bull Terrier, CH. Bonari Celtic Rose ROM, dragged out of retirement for this show. 10 points to the Bullies. The runner up was a Staffy, nine points to their breed. The selecting went on. The points were close, with at one stage only one point separating the breeds. But eventually the Bullies won the day and regained the “dunny seat” Both clubs had a fun day and hope to hold the event again next year. We had lots of people helping out with the BBQ, not to mention taking entries, setting up, packing up, selling items off the promo trailer. The club’s committee did a stellar job. Well done guys, yet again another smooth day, but only because of all your help.

The Big Day Out for Dogs/Christmas Members Comp December KCC Park

Due to expected temps of 37 deg., our Christmas Members Comp was postponed to the Sunday. This was to take place at the Big Day Out for Dogs, a breed expo organised by Dogs Victoria, which the club has been invited to for the previous three years. With many members and Bullies relieved they didn’t have to travel in the heat, we had over 20 entries. It made for a great fun day, with breeder Judge Merryl Elphick looking over some fantastic Bull Terriers. Congratulations to Chriss Cook for winning the show with Bullpatchy River Man ROM and Ginna From Hulia Kennels for getting Runner Up. It was a great day and it was topped off by numerous fun events, including a sack race. Of course you had to have your Bully under control, an Egg and spoon race, again with a Bully helping. The Christmas dress up was a huge hit with on-lookers and congratulations to all the best-dressed Bullies. Zoey and Dora were amazing in the Christmas present get-up. They had many people looking on, very envious of the effort that been put in. The black lion was fantastic in the non-Christmas dress up too. Well done Charlie.

Page 7: The Bull Terrier - oz.dogs.net.au · Terriers. Congratulations to Chriss Cook for winning the show with Bullpatchy River Man ROM and Ginna From Hulia Kennels for getting Runner Up

After the fun had finished it was time to relax and enjoy a free BBQ with hamburgers, salad and snags it was a deluxe BBQ that members enjoyed. With free Schweppes drinks being provided by a new member, it was a great day with everyone in the Christmas spirit. Even Santa made an appearance. It was a fun day with our Bully Walk crew showing up and our show people all there, it was a huge day. We also raised money for the Central Coast Bull Terrier Rescue with over $60 being placed in the jar, well done members, what an effort. Our breed stand also proved to be very popular with passers-by and members alike. With our new range of products and some excellent Christmas bargains, it was a great day. Plenty of club and breed information was handed out also, and with thousands of public wandering around, it can only ever be great free publicity.

Pet Expos the Bull Terrier Club have been invited to for 2013

Pet and Animal Expo Saturday 2nd & Sunday 3rd of February Melbourne Show Grounds

The Bull Terrier Club of Victoria have been invited to this expo for many years now. It formerly was held at Caulfield Race Course, but with a change of venue this year, is expected to be huge. Our breed stand will again be themed and we hope to attract

many passers-by to stop and give a Bully a hug. Also take some of our breed information and other various handouts the club now has to offer potential members and

puppy buyers. For further information regarding this expo, please visit www.emsaust.com.au/Melbourne-Pet-Animal-Expo

Dog Lovers Show Friday May 3rd- Sunday 5th of May Melbourne Exhibition Buildings Carlton

We have been invited to the first ever Dog Lovers Show. This event is billed as being

the biggest show on earth; well that’s what I like to think. With limited places it was great that the committee got on board and sent off the invite ASAP. The club was successful

in securing a stand free of charge. For further information regarding this day, please visit www.dogloversshow.com.au.

Melbourne Show September 2013 (Date yet to be set)

In 2012 Dogs Victoria came up with a great idea to help promote the breeds of dogs on show at the Royal Melbourne Show with breed information stands. We were invited in 2012, and as you saw in previous newsletters the club was well represented. We are

hoping in 2013 the club is invited back and we can secure a place to help promote the breed in a positive light.

Big Day Out for Dogs December 2013 KCC Park

This is always a fun day with lots of people attending the Big Day Out for Dogs. We will have further information as the date approaches. We are yet again hoping to promote

the breed at this great Dogs Victoria event.

Bully Walks for the first half of 2013

Saturday 9th of February 2013 **6pm**

The first Bully Walk for the year is planned for Saturday, February 9th. We are starting this walk at 6pm, in case of heat. Plus more chance of us being the only ones at the

park. We are also trying a new venue for our walk, Yarra Bend Park in Kew. We will be meeting at The Loop Picnic Area which is accessible from Yarra Bend Rd.

It's on the opposite side from the Studley Park Boat House, but you can park in the car park there, then head off by foot, over Kanes Bridge where you will find us. There is a

car park at the Loop Picnic area also.

We will be having a BBQ, hopefully the BBQ's will be free, plus soft drinks supplied. Then we can enjoy a stroll along the banks of the Yarra. So come along and enjoy a

nice evening with your Bully and watch the bats take flight over Melbourne.

It's a very dog friendly park with access to the Yarra too, so bring the retractable leads so the dogs can have a paddle. Let’s hope the weather is nice for us to start the year.

Saturday 13th of April 2013 **11:30am**

Our second Bully Walk for 2013 is in April at Pipemaker’s Park in Maribyrnong. Access is via Van Ness Ave and there is plenty of parking available in the area. There is a

lovely setting for our walk and a local member knows the area like the back of her hand. So I’m sure it’ll be a lovely day for a stroll along the beautiful Maribyrnong River.

We’ll be meeting around 11:30, setting off for a wander and returning for a couple of

snags in bread and a cool drink. Hope to see lots of Bullies at this, another new venue for our walks.

Sunday 19th of May 2013 **9:30am**

Once again we are combining our walk with the RSPCA’s Million Paws Walk held at Albert Park Lake. This always is a fun day and there is nothing like seeing one Bully in the crowd - let alone - as was the case last year, 25 Bullies wandering around the lake.

We normally meet in the Carousel Park Car near the start/finish line around 9:30am, the walk starts at 10am. After the stroll around the lake, there are plenty of activities to do in the area with your dog. It’s a fun day, more details as they come to hand. Watch future

newsletter and the webpage for more info.
