The Multi-Cultural
Center of Sioux Falls
would like to personally
thank Diane Pecheny for
her donation in memory
of her husband Henry
Pecheny.
Henry was a well-
known Spanish interpreter
at the Multi-Cultural Center of Sioux Falls in
2010-2011. Henry always had a special place in
his heart for our students and loved working
with them. We are very thankful for your
support of the children in our after-school
programs.
Henry Pecheny Donation

like to thank Lynn, Jackson, Shultz & Lebrun, P.C. for their support in our fundraiser. Lastly, thank you to
Wells Fargo, Washington Pavilion, Lalibela’s, Grand Falls Casino & Resort, Great Bear Ski Lodge, and

Human Rights Day, December 10th, 2018
Every year on December 10th, middle school students from around the
world participate in Human Rights Day through their writing. Local middle
school students gathered at the coliseum, where they read their winning essays
detailing what human rights means to them. The 2018 essay theme this year was
“My Human Rights Hero.” This years winners included 7th and 8th grade
students from O’Gorman junior high school, Sioux Falls Christian, Edison, and
Patrick Henry middle school. Winners of the essay wrote about Mother
Theresa, Malala Yousafzai, their own father who is a doctor, The Red Cross,
Iqbal Masih and many others. We are proud to be part of such an amazing
event every year.
Thank you to the sponsors: The Multi-Cultural Center, the International
Soroptimist Club, The Bread for the World, Toy Lending Library, and Greg
Woods. Thank you Captain Walsh, Officer Brady Lieuwen, and Colleen Moran
for representing the County and City. Most important, thank you to the essay
winners for writing about your heroes.

After School Programs: The after school program classes are wrapping up post-
assessments. The students have been working so hard over
the last few months. We are excited to be seeing tremendous
gains so far as we finish up our post-assessments. Froggy
Reads is at 100% improvement from where students were at
the beginning of the school year. Froggy Reads has been
working on reading comprehension strategies, phonics &
decoding, writing skills, speaking skills, and so much more.
Students in Natives Count, Self-Defense/Judo, and Native
Youth Club have also been making a lot of progress as we
finalize testing.
The students of our After-school
Programs thanked local Sioux Falls
veterans in a short ceremony,
November 14th. The students were
thrilled to meet the soldiers who
fight for our freedom.
