*FROM OUR LEADERSHIP*

From the Pastor As we continue the Lenten season, please remember to

respond with generosity to our offering for ELCA World Hunger. The Lenten disciplines of fasting, prayer and acts of mercy all have components that remind us of the needs of those who are insecure – for a variety of reasons -- about their food supply, both at home and abroad. Special offering envelopes are available at church.

Let me also remind you that on April 9 we’ll be celebrating the Leadership Gifts that are being promised for our Appeal for Immediate Maintenance. Then the whole congregation is invited to make a prayerful decision about supporting this effort to provide a new, accessible front entrance and make a start on the problem with the church’s water supply. We know that capital improvement needs are going to stretch out for a decade or more. But the 3-year commitment which is being sought now is going to establish a solid foundation for the future.

I found it pretty exciting to learn that nearly a third of the members here make their contributions electronically. That’s a very high percentage, and it speaks well for the congregation. You can, of course, set up automatic recurring payments through your bank. You can also use the church’s “Simply Giving” page, to contribute either from your bank account or on your credit card.

On the church’s web site, click on “Using Our Gifts,” and then “Online Giving.” That will take you to a page with a link at the bottom marked “Simply Giving.” When you click there, you’re taken completely off the church web site in a new browser window, to a secure page where you can make your gift, either to give general support to the church or to contribute to the Appeal for Immediate Maintenance. Christ the Lord Lutheran Church is not collecting (or even seeing) your bank or credit card information – that’s all being handled by a secure e-commerce vendor. (Yes, I know the web site needs to be re-designed so you don’t have to make three clicks to get where you want to go – but it’s really not that cumbersome right now, and, if you set up recurring gifts weekly or monthly, you won’t have to go through it again until you’re ready to make a change!)

I look forward to celebrating Holy Week and Easter with you again this year.

The Sunday of the Passion (Palm Sunday) is April 9, and we’ll again be involving congregational members in the reading of the story – this year from St. Matthew’s gospel.

On Maundy Thursday and Good Friday our worship services are at 7:00 PM. Please join us. The service of Holy Communion on April 13 brings to our mind how our Lord gathered his disciples for this sacred meal, given for the forgiveness of sin and the promise of life eternal with the Risen Lord. The solemn service on April 14 includes the Reading of St. John’s Passion, with the solemnity of the procession of the Cross and its adoration through the ancient Bidding Prayer.

Easter Sunday is the worldwide church’s most festive and joyous celebration. This is an unusual year because both the Eastern Orthodox and Western European calendars have us observing Easter on the same day.

In our increasingly secularized world, there are many,

many people who do not even know or understand our belief about this, that Jesus Christ, who was crucified and died on a Friday, was raised from death and was seen to be alive on the following Sunday morning. Media have been known to get even that basic story wrong. All the more important, then, that we gather with our families and friends on this sacred day. The festive music and decoration in the church are all intended to punctuate this holy truth: in Christ, we are a new creation. May God bless us all.

Michael R. Rothaar Interim Pastor

*GET INVOLVED* Our AIM is Opening Doors to Our Future

After four Sunday talks, many forms of communication and the Sun. Apr. 2 forum, the time has arrived to make our commitments to the capital building appeal. With $45,000 we will replace the entrance doors with new doors having power assist, repair some of our roof and the clerestory windows, and replace the well tank and pump.

The AIM Team and Congregation Council have already received their pledge information and the congregation will receive theirs about April 18th. The three year commitments for the AIM Appeal are due by May 7th. They should be mailed to the Church Office to the attention of the Financial Secretary or be placed in the offering plates the last two Sundays of April or the first Sunday in May, earmarked AIM Building Fund.

Our response will say much about our present and future ability to be faithful in our mission and ministries, while taking care of our building and property.

The Great Sunday of Giving is May 14th, Mother’s Day. Let us all pray for a stunning response, as we give generous gifts to kick start the AIM Appeal.

Needles and Pins Circle – Remember when your mom had “Circle” at church or the

neighborhood ladies got together to “Coffee Klatch”. I do, and I remember my Mom forming the best bonds of friendship with those ladies. They were like sisters to her and second Moms to us. Well, CTL has that group. We meet on Tuesdays from 9 -12 and we sew, knit, crochet, make cards, visit and just kibitz. Sometimes someone even brings a special treat or new recipe that we all have to sample. You are all welcome to join us. Even if you don’t do any of these crafty things we would love to have you there just to visit. Or come and LEARN how to do something new.

If we are having lots of fun (which is often) we eat our sack lunches and just keep going into the afternoon. What a great way to spend a Tuesday Morning.

Bound and Ungagged We are reading "The Invention of Wings" by Sue Monk

Kidd for our Sat. Apr. 1 meeting. For Sat. May 6 we will be reading "My Name is Lucy Barton" by Elizabeth Strout and for Sat. Jun. 3 we will be reading "Sing You Home" by Jodi Picoult. We meet at Colonial Cafe at 8:00 am and are usually finished by 9:30-10:00 am. If you enjoy reading and would like to discuss books come join us for some fellowship, a delicious breakfast and some lively discussion on the books that we read. If you have any questions or would like to suggest a book that you think the book club would enjoy reading please contact Carol H.

Prayerful Humor Barrels of Water

The Sunday school teacher was carefully explaining the story of Elijah the Prophet and the false prophets of Baal. She explained how Elijah built the altar, put wood upon it, cut the steer in pieces and laid it upon the altar.

And then Elijah commanded the people of God to fill four barrels of water and pour it over the altar. He had them do this four times.

"Now, said the teacher, "can anyone in the class tell me why the Lord would have Elijah pour water over the steer on the altar?"

A little girl in the back of the room raised her hand with great enthusiasm. "To make the gravy."
